  1. well then smarty pants. care to eloborate...
  2. I just head that there was a big fire at Queen Street smash last night. anyone know the full story of what happened? Apparently some cars were damaged in the blaze and the shop was smoke damaged but didn't burn down. maybe a disgruntled punter?
  3. good question. I'm not 100% on if that is ok or not, but the easiest way is just to run it in series with the factory cooler. the factory cooler/dampener is up the front near the radiator. just unplug the hose going into one end of it, plug that to your new cooler then run a hose from the new cooler outlet to the old factory ones inlet. done.
  4. yes, various bodies have been cracking down on this. there are a couple of problems though. for one, most often it's the seller who winds back the speedo (not the exporter, or aussie importer). they do it BEFORE auction in order to get a slightly better grading. A car with say 180,000kms may get graded a 4B. wind that back to 80,000kms and that very same car could get a 4.5B which will get more interest and most likely more money. it also doesn't take into account how often the auction houses make mistakes. their record of a cars kms should not be taken as gospel. it is a good idea though. personally though, the only real way to verify kms is to get a car that has a continuous and complete service history. also, the japanese government is now recording the kms at each shaken inspection. and when a car is sold for export they now print out the previous shaken inspection kms on the de-reg certificate. so you sometimes see "inspection 2001 65,000kms" "inspection 2004 87,000kms". then you get the car and it's got 70,000kms....
  5. they use chain drive from memory. and it's a fairly light spaceframe, with super light body. and they use tiny very light diffs and I think inboard brakes too from memory.
  6. no idea. you need to fine out what the actual thickness is of the friction material not the plate. you need to know the new thickness, and the replacement or minimum thickness. even that knowledge still doesn't tell you if the intermediate plates are warped? or the diaphragm is shagged.
  7. yes, fuel pills, fuel polarizers etc have long been a mildly funny joke in the auto industry. lots of people get caught up in it though.
  8. my advice. ditch the HKS dumps and use tomei instead. a little more expensive buy miles better. also, why are you fitting the oil feed restrictor? you do realise I assume that to fit it your head needs to come off. that means new headgasket (and if you are replacing it might as well go metal gasket) and new head bolts too. seems like a lot of effort to fit a $5 part. there would be probably near to $1000 in labour and parts just to do that. and if you have a standard motor, and standard oil pump I wouldn't be reccomending big revs anyway. same goes with the tomei oil pan. to fit that the engine needs to come out. it wont be too bad I guess though as for some people it's easier to change turbos with the engine out, but they could have been done with the engine in otherwise.
  9. looks like a top day out. powerplay do always get a nice turnout for their track days. well done neil. 1:06 is not bad. now mate just find that right hand peddle and get your thing down to the 1min mark... and I don't care what the times say, easto is still massively camp. last time he came to the RSl he was all dolled up like he was going to the opera. no wonder him and fatz are good buddies.
  10. yeah it's a crazy situation. I guess they just don't cater to guys with fast street cars. but the problem is street cars are getting faster and faster and lots of those owners want to race. I can understand in the past the group of part time racers with 10second and 11 second street cars would have been pretty small, but that group has certainly grown heaps in the last few years. It's amazing to see the disparity between drag and circuit. I would argue circuit is infinitely more dangerous as you have higher speeds, corners, and many other participants of varying speed and skill on the track at once. yet I can roll up in even a 1000hp GTR and race with just my $100 licence and a helmet and a pair of jeans. don't need cage, or fancy licence, or even fireproof gear. and I can go out there and run as quick as a V8 supercar. I'm not saying that's the way it should be either. circuit racing need to consider this too. years ago most cars at amatuer sprints were comparitively slow. these days the times and speeds street cars can achieve at the circuit is scary and some guys are approaching v8 super car times and doing it without the benefit of top level safety gear. hopefully we can find a happy medium between the two current systems.
  11. holy moly. what a load of codswallop. they need to get with the times. a 35 GTR can run a low 11 stock on standard issue road rubber. as adrian pointed out with just some boost, ecu and maybe some sticky tyres you are looking at 10s in a car that is perfectly safe, road legal and still has all it's original safety and emissions equipment. and yet they want you to cage it, pay big money for a licence etc, just so you can test it's performance in the safety of a drag strip. no wonder we'll end up with people doing their 10 second passes on the local industrial estate... they need to have a good hard look at this. there is a whole lot of normal street cars now that can run in the 11s. and a few that are in the 10s. making people go through all this rubbish is why drag racing is not going so well. unless you want to make your car a dedicated drag car then it's not worth racing it at all. which is a shame as this kind of all or nothing system means a lot of folk like me wont bother and will just stick to circuit. it's funny to think that if I have a 700hp GTR that has no cage or whatever and I have little experience. now this car is capable of 10.5 qtr mile.if I want to drive it in a straight line for 10 seconds reaching a fair speed then braking at the end I need to spend $500 on a licence, a couple grand on safety gear (cage, blanket etc) then I can race. OR if I want to race it on a circuit where I can reach even higher top speed, and have the added danger of cornering, braking, and other cars on the track with me all I need is a $100 licence and no safety mods to the car. makes you think.
  12. why on earth would you? I'm not diff welding expert but I imagine it will be tricking as the GTR centre is a mechanical clutch pack type LSD. if you want a welded diff at least sell your GTR centre and get a crap GTST diff, weld that and put it in.
  13. it is first in, best dressed.
  14. I used trust kits on both my GTRs and not a single problem or leak with either of them. also they have a built in thermo-sttate which is goof to get the oil up to temp qucikly.
  15. lol, if you are buying HJC, please buy this one!
  16. yep, no doubt about it. fit is the number 1 most important thing. HJC are ok. a bit on the old cheap china made side. the big brands like arai, bell, stilo, simpson etc tend to have a bit nicer designs and better finish/quality but I have no idea if they actually protect any better or not. I have had a HJC helmet and I was happy with it for the money.
  17. sadly for you since p platers can no longer own turbo silvia or skylines the few NA ones around have gone up in price over the last few years as there is a high demand for them, and fairly limited numbers (because back in the day no body really bothered importing many NA silvia or skylines as no body wanted them).
  18. you sure can. any type of car is welcome.
  19. very bad news. I saw nick this morning when he got the call from Darron. I'm sorry to hear this happen to you guys Steve and Darron, and hopefully given the nature of some of the parts stolen they can be recovered and these theives brought to justice. and for every body else, always do your best to establish the bona fides of whatever parts you buy off forums etc.
  20. no body believes the beer baron when he says kiwi and seaway couldn't organise a root in a brothel but they all become believers sooner or later. anyway, don't stress on it too much. it's annoying, it's inconvenient, but at the end of the day it will all come out ok. just remember it for next time and go somewhere else. PS, yes in sydney I use hobbs for cleaning. always. AAT is ok, but these days they are just too busy and take too long.
  21. I will be there. going to run my little silvia and see how she goes. It should be a great day guys, and the R35 is one hell of a car, so if you haven't seen one it's a good chance to get up close with one.
  22. fair enough. I think I was a little misunderstood. I wasn't having a go at WYD or catholics. I was having a go at our government for financing it. I am polish, and probably 80% of my family is catholic. I have no problem with us allowing to be run, and even helping with transport arrangements, road closure etc. but the level of support for this from the government is just way over the top.
  23. lol, Vork Ravs. now available in Mangesium. check your wheels, they probably are Mangesium, or Magnesiun etc...
  24. yeah vettel hasn't exactly covered himself in glory when it comes to keeping his nose clean. webber wasn't too flatering either after fuji... it cracks me up jsut thinking about that interview when louise said "ummm thanks for that mark"... haha.
