underbody the best bet would be some fairly think sheet alluminium. make a template out of cardboard, transfer onto the sheet, cut it out, bolt it on.

Container Vs Roll On Roll Off
Beer Baron replied to rtune's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
lol, you probably present a more balanced view than me. but kiwi have fked me around one too many times. plus they only deliver to brisbane which is bloody useless if like me you live in any other state in australia. most of the times I've had cars fcked with on kiwi I am fairly sure it occured between QLD and Sydney not on the ship, or on the docks. and then it takes a bloody week to get it from qld to sydney and now you have to trek out and pick it up from their yard. lame. you are also right about the insurance. what a joke. I don't know of anybody who has successfully claimed any money out of them. -

oh, and one more time, my advice is Mitsui OSK or NYK Line. forget kiwi. the only time i've ever had shipping problems it was with kiwi. -
Container Vs Roll On Roll Off

anyway, I have personally seen cars being loaded in japan and they are mostly little 50 year old japanese mean in funny hats who could not give a rats ass about your RX7 with TD06 or your mines built R34 GTR. they drive them all the same way they drive their honda civic to work. at about 5km/h.... they are all packed in like sardines so even if it does break loose it can't go far. plus they strap it at 4 points to the floor using fibre type straps. the ramps are pretty flat. the only real risk to the cars is here in aus, but certainly in sydney there is not much scope for wharf workers to pinch stuff from your car and not much room to do any decent 'perfomrance testing'. if you send it out for cleaning though there is a chance if you don't know the towie he might lift something, or the cleaners might but personally I don't see it happen often. Personally I wouldn't worry. there is very little you can do about it, it's outside of your control. so just ship it and see what happens. I know it's special to you, but to 99% of the other people involved it's 'just another shitbox' and they will treat it as such. that has positives and negatives. positives in that they won't be interested enough to bother thrashing it or pilfering it. negatives in that they wont care if they open the door straight into a pole, or back it into another car, or even just things like hopping in with dirty boots and a ciggie in the mouth. -
Just Bought Myself An R34 Gtr V-spec

you say genuine but did it come with the auction report? and the log books? and the service book? cars with kms that low will almost certainly be one owner cars too so you should have the owner history as well. just saying it's very hard to back up kms of an imported car unless you have the paperwork to support it. -

personally I would always go roro. container shipping is a waste of money for most cars, more cost and more hassle. and it's not uncommon for it to be damaged whilst being loaded into the container or whilst being carried by crane. it also can break free if not packed correctly and be damaged. about the only thing it helps protect from is sticky fingers and drivers with a leadfoot. and those two have not really been much problem for me over the years. up to you at the end of the day. the only way I would not ship a car is via kiwi car carriers. -
BCNR33-023529 and in future do not bump your threads every day. all it will do is piss people (like me) off and you will be less inclinded to receive any help. if you must do so, bump it once a week to let peopel know you still need help, but every day is excessive and against the rules.

hehe, I know this guy has a little 'wharehouse' on barr st. pain in the arse for all the people who live in the biscuit factory as he parks his cars all up and down the street which doesn't leave much room for residents. any car sold without auction sheet, or log books, or service book should be treated as suspect if it has less than average kms. for a 1999 R34 GTR I would say about 80,000-120,000 would be the average. There are some with less, but don't forget it's a 10 year old car, and don't buy the bullshit about people in japan not doing any driving.... -
one piece of advice I would give is to have an option where you can set it to display the difference between boost pres and fuel pres. this makes it much easier to diagnose fuel pressure problems (failing pump, leaks, faulty reg etc) as you remove boost from the equation. it gives you a much more usefull figure to look at.

wow it sure has become more popular this last couple of years. back when I first started going there would be dozens of people saying "yeah I'm going this year" but it usually ended up being just nick and I. and then one year no one I knew from SAU was going, but since I already had lots of friends in japan I went by myself. but to be honest after 4 TAS visits I've seen it just get less and less impressive each time and I think I may now have finally given up It would be nice to see all you guys over there though, but I think I will stick to doing nismo festival and hyper rev time attack type stuff for the next few years. I will say this, the first time you go to TAS it will blow you away, no matter what jaded folk like me think. to you it will be the most awesome car show you have seen.

I reckon glass windscreen is the go. mainly because a perspex will get damaged over time, it will practically be sandblasted down the straight and after a few scratches and chips and even just with aging it will become hard to see out through the screen. plus since you have to use very thick perspex for the front it will already be hard to see through given it's curved shape.

People Who "lie" On Their Ads
Beer Baron replied to Brokenz's topic in General Automotive Discussion
yep, very simple. no receipts = no rebuild. just another fantasy. your friend is a tool and there will be some nasty karma headed his way soon. no matter how clever he thinks he is people will soon cotton on to the fact that he is in reality a thinly veiled theif. if you want to make good relationships with people and be able to trade on forums and the like easily then you need to be 100% honest and up front about everything. I always am in my ads and dealings and I think my trader rating bares that out. a good reputation takes ages to build and seconds to destroy and to me that is worth far more than a couple of extra bux by ripping someone off. -
Is Hsv W427 Worth $150k-$170k?
Beer Baron replied to ras1983's topic in General Automotive Discussion
lol, well cop this. my subaru legacy GT is one of one in the country. yeah baby. and $4K on a handbag? she must be going through tough times. the real shizzle starts at the 1mil jpy mark! hell even don quiote has LV bags in the 1mil-1.5mil range ($10K-$15K for the aussies). can pick some up along with a nice maids outfit and some toothpaste. very convenient. just accept that most peopel agree $170K is too much coin for this particular commodore. but surely you can see it from someone elses point of view? is it so hard to understand that holden may be someones favourite marque? and that since they have a decent amount of dough to them the price seems bareable? you really need to get over here and drive an R8 or a GTS for a few days, they are great cars in their own right and that is why they have such wide appeal. remeber the great rap the monaro's got from the top gear and 5th gear guys? remember how well they sell in various arab states? anyway, bottom line I agree, I would not pay $170K for one, but the other upper shelf models that sit around the $90-$100K mark I think are actually pretty good value and good competitors to the euros in that price bracket. often with better equipment and nearly always equal or better powa! -
well lots of GTRs have had them removed over the years. people remove them, and remove the resonator box behind it too. and the duct can be useful if you put an oil cooler in there or use some pipe to duct cool air up to your airbox/pods. but unless you put either of those in there you may as well just leave the blanking plate in.

Greddy Oil Cooler Installation R32 Gtr
Beer Baron replied to Slik_LA's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
it wont fit on the drivers side as the BOVs are there. the whole kit is desinged to mount in a specific spot and for the greddy kits it's either under the radiator support, or in the passenger side duct. the duct is much better as it really doesn't do very much being mounted behind the intercooler. -
it's factory. you can remove it if you want but just removing it wont do anythnig except cost you some aero. however your car has definitely been resprayed (and not too well by the look of it). the blanking plate from the factory was just black on call cars. damn, I just noticed they painted the factory lip too. what a shame

Few Dyno Run Vids Of The New 26 And K5-660r
Beer Baron replied to STATUS's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
hmm, got me thinking trent. my engnie is just about to go back into the GTR. I want about 350rwkw and lots of joy in the midrange. I currently have: HKS GT-SS tomei expreme mani's tomei dumps head work tomei 260/9.15 cams full trust super suction kit etc etc you know most of the spec. but lately I have been considering an HKS T04Z kit. price is almost the same and it simplifies things a bit. but I do want it to be very responsive. I don't want to strap on the T04Z and find it makes the 350rwkw with just 14psi and makes all it's power up top. I guess what I mean is there is no point using a 400rwkw capable turbo to get 350 if the set-up will be 'lazy'. and by the same token no point using 320kw turbos to try and make 350kw as everything will be stressed. I'm starting to think this blitz kit may suit. How do you think this kit compares with a T04Z? are they fairly similar in size/trim? and what's the rough price on this bad boy? -

Beer Baron replied to Slik_LA's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
the only place you should be mounting it is inside the passenger side brake duct. did the kit come with the alloy duct too? is it new or used? -
it should do. sorry I just assumed your bolt on spacers have that little 'lip' in the middle to locate the wheel. if not then that is almost certainly why you are having these problems as it's pretty hard to locate the wheel dead centre without the hub ring on the spacer. if it doesn't look like this, it's not good.

Is Hsv W427 Worth $150k-$170k?
Beer Baron replied to ras1983's topic in General Automotive Discussion
in fact when I sell some of my cars I might even buy an aussie V8 just for a change (and to make you mad adam!). maybe even a wagon. not bad value. 310rwkw at cost $38K. I can race you in your wagon.....http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-car/HOLDEN/COMMODORE/ACT/csn5278661.aspx and yes I'm kidding I don't want a commodore wagon. but I really do like the 08 model GTS commodore. they are very nice. -
Is Hsv W427 Worth $150k-$170k?
Beer Baron replied to ras1983's topic in General Automotive Discussion
sorry, i was talking about holdens in general, not just teh W427. yeah it's probably overpriced. but remember probably $30K of that is just 'fluff' they added to the price since it's limited to 200 cars and they know there will be more than 200 people willing to buy it. but look at a nice SS V8, or even a GTS. what do they cost? both under $100K from memory, and overlooking brand cache for a minute they are ever bit as good as a basic 5 series beemer (although at under $100K we would only be looking at 3 series anyway). more fun to drive (tell me old school rwd with torquey V8 is not fun), bigger interior, just as many appointments (heated seats, TVs, leather, etc). and 3 and 5 BMW are a bloody dime a dozen where I live and work and no-one would look twice at them. I'm not saying I would choose a holden over the M3. I would probably choose something altogether different if I had 170K to spend on one car. BUT my point is this: Why can't you just appreciate that they are decent cars, with (mostly) reasonable price tags, with lots of feature, with good looks, with big, fun, powerfull engines? and that most aussies love 'em. I think we should be proud that even our most conservative car maker is pump out big comfy cars with silly amounts of power. and they sound glorious.
