Os Twin Plate R32 Gtr
Beer Baron replied to PHA71L's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
yes they are noisy. like 90% of multi-plates they have a loud rattle when the clutch predal is depressed. are they good? yeah they are pretty good. hard to comment definitively as they make heaps of different twin plates for GTR. sprung centre? solid centre? small plates? larger plates? alloy cover? steel cover? carbon? etc etc. -
hehe. it's in the space in my engine bay where the engine should be! never fear, I am trying to sort something out this week. and if it doesn't get sorted I will happily offer my services as a pro driver (or saboteur) to anyone who needs me. It would be a shame for people to think I am all talk. when it should be known that I am all man.

so then what on earth are you talking about? what impact is mosleys departure going to have on the AAA? (i'm genuinely curious) and what impact does the AAA have on motorsport in aus? and if you aren't talking about motorsport then what are we doing in the motorsport section. I never said CAMS was part of the FIA. CAMS is the peak governing body of motorsport in australia. that is all. they are the motorsport delegate of the FIA in this country. sure the AAA represents the nrma, racv etc and it's members and I guess all road users, but they are so far out of touch it's not funny. as best I can tell they have very little impact on my motoring life apart from often frustrating support of nanny state style laws. and again, they have 9/10ths of bugger all to do with racing and motorsport which is what I thought we were on about?
-
yeah but wtf does the AAA have to do with motorsport in australia? sweet fanny adams as far as I can tell. CAMS is the motorsport governing body in australai mate.

man you are good lookin fatz. shame you can't spell "stirring" or "pic" right you clown.
-
who or what is the AAA?

looks great mark and dundan. you guys will have a ball on this one without that nasty rule book holding you down. depending on how much it costs for the perspex and how hard it is to get a nice result it may be worth buying some pre-made japanese lexan or perspex windows as they are not really all that expensive in japan. I have bought some before for a mate and I was surprised how cheap they were.
-
also, I'm not sure what type of tyres you have, but if they are cheapies then for sure they would have contributed to this incident. having good tyres is so important. they are the only link to the road and there is no point having great suspension, or good brakes or good power if you then slap on some nexen/nangkang/wanli tyres on it. yes good tyres are crazy expensive but the safety of you and your family and other people on the road make them well worthwhile.

Locked/welded Diff Question
Beer Baron replied to humz's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
it's a bad idea. just buy a proper LSD. they are awesome, and much safer. -
Help! Best Lsd Centre For R200 Diff?
Beer Baron replied to MY308U's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
cusco ones are very good in my experience. but I would try and suss out why exactly it failed before sticking a new centre in there. it's pretty uncommon for one to smash to bits. unless you are talking 1100hp+... -
do GCG make their manifolds or just import and sell them? they look amazingly similar to others I have seen. anyway I have to agree $1100 is a little harsh if it is the same spec as some others getting around. the 6boost ones though look awesome, and I think from memory are under the $1000 mark for RB25. anyway, you will find out soon enough what it's like and I'm guessing the one good thing about a mammoth price tag is it most likely comes with a good, replacement warranty.

nice work. and great upgrade. I love upgrading nissans with parts from other nissans. it's cool. like my 32 GTR has 34 GTR seats, 34 GTR wheels, 34 GTR brembos. my S13 silvia used R33 GTST brakes, R33 5 stud hubs, S14 box, S14 radiator, R33 lower control arms. and all those parts are better than what they replaced, but still standard nissan gear. A long time ago I saw an R32 GTR with the R34 MFD in it and thought it was a great idea. since it just fits into the factory dash makes it even more attractive to do in a 34 GTT.

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's great to see so many people who appreciate it as much as I do. to answer some of the questions, originally this was going to be my friend Marks personal car that he would keep in australia. It was chosen as it had a great body and interior, but sub-par engine which made it a good candidate for a rebuild and upgrade. He was planning to move to aus and asked if he could ship the car to me as it was and then get me to orchestrate it's rebuild over here then take care of it for him till he got here. For some reason he trusts my GTR knowledge and likes my taste in mods, so basically i would have free reign over the mods keeping in mind his goal of a fast, reliable, weekend use street GTR. Then he inquired about buying a 33 GTR crate motor in japan just out of interest and decided that the price was worth it. The plan at that stage was to just install the brand new crate motor and do all the interior and suspension bush restoration work and basically have a brand new but near stock R32 GTR with just mild mods (bearing in mind it was just destined for weekend street use). The reason the crate motor option was so attractive is that absolutely everything in it is brand new from the rocker covers to the sump and every part in between. When you add up all the parts in a RB26 from top to bottom it would cost a bomb to replace then all which is why in most rebuild just basic things are replaced (pistons, rings, bearings, seals and a few other bits and pieces). So the crate motor was ordered and Prime Garage was enlisted to carry out the work of fitting it. But then we thought with a brand new motor it would be a shame to fit up tired old turbos. So I chose some new HKS GT-SS turbos for it, then after how impressed I was with the Tomei Manifolds and dump pipes I had for my other GTR we decided to get those too. Tets then suggested that some of the crate motors he had used before had pretty average clearances and finishing etc. So we got him to pull it all down and blueprint and weight balance the whole lot. While it was apart we thought it would be worthwhile to make use of his renowned skills as a head work master. To make the most of the porting work I decided to get some small-ish cams which would match the turbo choice nicely and to keep things reliable we bought valve springs to go with it. With more boost and power in mind we bought the metal head gasket kit and fitted that too. You can see how things just spiraled from there. Eventually mark decided he couldn't keep this car as he already had a mint 32 GTR tucked away and his move back to australia was not set in stone, so I took it over. With all the new gear and the power potential now significantly upped I upgraded all the other bits too (injectors, AFMs, piping, intercooler, oil cooler, fuel pump, ecu, clutch, exhaust, brakes, wheels the whole lot basically). The original budget for the rebuild was $10K but it's tripled that fairly easily now. I really can't keep it. When I took it on I already had ordered a big motor for my other GTR and have lots of gear on that too. So as much as I would love to keep this one too I can't afford to Dirtgarage is right, japanese business men pay me well for my 'converstation' and I'm touched you think I'm cute tbag: yes, it sure does sound beautiful when running. Cams really give the GTR a nice note. It sounds so good that even though it still has the original factory stereo in it I haven't needed to upgrade it. B-man, I think I answered most of your questions in the mammoth post above! Kranker: it's still using factory pistons and rods as considering they were brand new, blueprinted, weight balanced and hand finished plus with the 1.2mm headgasket they were considered more than strong enough for the potential of the turbos. If tuned properly they will more than handle the boost and power of the set-up and considering it's target was street use we didn't want any of the negatives that can come with some forgies (noisy running when cold etc). godzilla32: thanks for the kind words mate, I've read your restoration thread and your car will be awesome. you will love it even more having done it all yourself. it is great to see the lengths you have gone to just like this build. I really think 32 GTRs are well worth restoring to their former glory! to all those who asked about price I haven't settled on a final figure yet but it will be in the 30s which for those that know GTRs and can appreciate what they are getting is a steal. The new owner will get over 300 photos from all stages of the build, and all the receipts from it, plus a car that has only done a few hundred kms since it was run in and tuned on the dyno! I have the original owners manual and log book too. It's pretty rare and special to be able to buy a car like this with such comprehensive build history in japan and all the receipts and pics to back that up. The parts cost alone on this car would stretch to the 30s if you were having that work done here let alone the labour and the car cost. For anyone interested please send me a pm and we can discuss. It will be officially on the market in the next week.

Importing From Europe/uk
Beer Baron replied to Stoney85's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
interesting comment. care to explain how/why that is the case? -
bummer mate, sorry to hear that. I just changed your log in to rukus now too. no more nipples for you.

Importing From Europe/uk
Beer Baron replied to Stoney85's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
it is no different from importing from any other country. doesn't matter if you are importing from england, or brunei or japan. any questions about the rules of personal import should be directed to DOTARS as they are the ones who will process your application not us. it won't help if we say "sure international licence is fine" and then they turn your application down. saying to them, "well beer baron told me it should be ok" won't help. trust me! talk to DOTARS, they are not the enemy. -
well when I did my warm-up lap the tyres had 11 minute mountains. not my fault.
-
yep, kubi will be on the podium next to webber. no doubt.
-
webber on the podium I reckon. I am always an optimist. and he's in good form. stick it in the wall or win trying.
-
I reckon on say a black GTT 33 GTR rims would look nice. having said that 34 GTR rims on a 34 GTT look even better.

New Dump Pipes With Stock Turbos
Beer Baron replied to R33-RB26DETT's topic in General Automotive Discussion
it's a turbo's out job. some might even say engine out really. I don't know of anyone that could replace GTR dumps with the turbos and everything else still bolted in place. -
Does This Look Too Cheap Or Dodgy?
Beer Baron replied to R33-RB26DETT's topic in General Automotive Discussion
shame you have bought it already because from looking at it I would say it's the old version. you should always ask the seller to check and tell you what the firmware is before buying a used power FC. for a GTR you want 8.04a. -
i'm sorry mate, but this "I want tututututututuuuu" topic has run it's course. people have told you how to do it and from here this thing will only degenerate further into a thread of people wanting to bag you out. if you still are not confident doing this kind of stuff take it to a workshop and tell them what you want.
