  1. your jedi tricks are powerless on me andrew. I can smell that empty space in your wallet a mile away. good to see you back in a cheap yet stupidly expensive car. syslink, don't know if it was me that said that, but yes it is true. keeping the heat in the pipe does fatigue it. but it's good for performance in a few ways. it can be bad on mild steel especially as the wrap can retain moisture and cause the pipe underneath the rust out. as for whether or not it's a good idea, it's a 50/50 call. I have done it before though. ceramic coating is better but costs more.
  2. yes it's correct. to import used cars via SEVS in low volume they have to have been offered OS for 18months before nissan started selling them here in full volume (this is what happed with S15s, 18months on sale OS before nissan started full volume sales). at the moment new cars are eligible under SEVS but no-one has got compliance yet, but it should be possible. used cars is wait and see what happens. no-one can accurately predict that at this point.
  3. lol, if not taller even. I think 700 may be faster overall from tokyo to kokura, but I think the 500 still has a higher top speed. 300km/h+ in certain places. it's pretty cool, it comes up on the display board whenever it's above 300km/h.
  4. ummm merli. unless you are attaching them to the air purifier in your M3 then I think you have some splaining to do.... confess me your sin brother.
  5. how do I make the whip noise in the internet? woopisshhh. hmm not too bad. I shall be attending.
  6. my vote is the tomei dumps. much better made than the HKS once. plus they have a nice big bell mouth. the HKS ones have tiny primary and secondary pipes.
  7. I would love to know what source that is. I would wager some dough they are less reliable than you think. if nissan is delivering R35s in September this year I will do a nudie run at the sydney motor show. they may having pricing by september, and they may be taking firm orders then too, but i am fairly certain they wont be delivering any to customers.
  8. Russ, give me a call! Got some news from nissan jp today. oh, and all these parts vultures lining up better have your wallets out!! I can't imagine 35 seats going for much less than about $8,000. The forged Rays 20inch rims wont be cheap either.
  9. yeah the 500 nozomi is more crazy looking, and faster, but they are heaps smaller I think. like 5-8 cars vs the 700s which go up to at least 12 cars I've been in. also, I could never find any 500s between osaka and tokyo (but didn't try too hard). actually maybe it was the other way round, between osaka and f*kuoka. either way, I've done both. lol. and they are both kick ass trains. and they are all a nice place to sit back and down a few beers and look at the scenery flying past at 300km/h. I bet cat loved it. mmmm train nerds.
  10. yeah for sure. 3,000rpm is not exactly setting the world on fire. but 3,500 is getting there and 4,000 is humming nicely. outright power was not really what I was into though. more just the difference between before the cam timing adjustment and after the adjustments. 26kw atw is a pretty handy gain, and it's 20-30kw throughout the range. You could be right and the cams may give an increase down low and up top too, but damn it's a lot more money from cam gears to cams. unless you can do it yourself properly it's a $2000 + job to do even 'bolt in' cams. having said all that my new motor does have cams. and they are 260/9.15mm tomei cams. but it also has a lot of headwork etc and will be running much more boost to make the most of them. I still think on stock turbos there are many better things you can be doing with $2500 that buying and having cams fitted. but it's an interesting discussion none the less.
  11. I've used SCW to wax and polish a number of my cars and I know they do cutt and buff too. They are pretty good, and use meguirars products. they are on broadway just near city road. sydney car wash.
  12. well with brake brackets they are pretty important, even a mil off will cause problems. so I would pay the money to make sure they are up to scratch. $700 doesn't sound unreasonable to have something custom made.
  13. yeah that is a nice result. but I still believe you could have got the same result with just adjustable cam gears and the stock cams. and you are right, you can never have too many charts, so much to analyse. case in point: my old set-up. stock turbos, 1.05bar boost, cat less, cat back exhaust and power FC with fairly conservative tune (stock AFMS, stock injectors, stock IC etc). this was after adding and tuning cam gears. no changes made to the boost controller and no changes made to the tune at all (which was tuned without the cam gears). here it is: and this was after some more tuning of the power FC.
  14. 31st sounds good to me.
  15. it's pretty simple., for stock turbos and street use cams are a waste of time. you will get very good gains from tuning the stock cams with adjustable cam gears. rev201, I hear what you are saying mate, but I reckon you could have got most of those gains with just some cam gears and tuning. very curious to see any before and after graphs though if you have them?
  16. it's got a fair few marks on the body though and wavy panel on the roof which may indicate paint. no idea why you'd need to paint the roof though. looks like it may have had paint down both quarters too, but this can really only be confirmed or denied by getting someone with a good eye to check the car out in person before buying it.
  17. yes shinkansen tokyo-osaka-f*kuoka is great fun, but it's one of those things you do once. silly me I've done it a few times! Nozomi train 500 class and 700 class are farking cool though. flying is cheaper (flat rate 10,000yen with JAL) and only takes an hour to get from tokyo to f*kuoka.
  18. I was at hornsby nissan on saturday they told me that they have taken 20 orders so far, but delivery will be some time in 2009 but not sure exactly when. and price is yet to be confirmed.
  19. yep. 100% has to be the GP layout. i mean this is the last figure 8 tack we have and it's about to become extinct so we may as well use it while we still can. the south layout cuts out some of the coolest bits on the track, and it shortens the straight and removes the fastest corner which reduces the brown moments a bit.
  20. yep, always renew even if your car is not being used. the small amount you save one CTP and rego is offset by the fact that you need a blueslip etc when it's time to get going again.
  21. yeah you will get pretty beaten up in it for sure. and it's definitely a box office now. just don't make it a box office smash!
  22. cool, they will be the same then for sure. and cheap too second hand, just make sure they aren't damaged. They will look super cool.
  23. and this is the reputation out skylines have traded on for years. sure one now costs about the same as an R35 and no where near as fast, but I'd wager it's 5 times the fun. AND that is how a GTR should sound. gives me goose bumps. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=byJ5NH5t37U
  24. lol what? there are no gear changes I can hear in that vid? plenty of lifting off before a corner. there was one faint up shift that sounded just like any paddle shift to me but it was very faint, and I didn't hear any down shifts. cool car though, I will be very impressed if the production version sounds like that.
  25. nice one! very hard core I like it. formula holden is pretty much the fastest class to race in aus so hold onto your hat!
