tell me about it. and of course if you are buying a new car from nissan they have been instructed NOT to sell to exporters. so they wont like it if you order more than one, which is hard enough anyway as you need a parking spot for it, and if you don't have enough in your house you'll need to rent one, within a certain radius of your house, and it has to be big enough to fit the car and the police will check this to make sure you are legit. all big hurdles and all add time/cost.
-
agreed! I have bought a couple and it's not easy, or cheap. very limited supply from nissan and lots of hassle for exporters to buy one new (compared to just buying any old car at auction) means anyone would be mad to do a regular FOB as the number they can buy is very, very limited.

Super TT looks cool. shame they don't have the technical regs on there with the rest of the stuff. may make building an appropriate car a bit tricky!
-
that is Jasons car. It's not a GMS car. Just painted like one.

oh man, why the cosmo sale? did you at least get to give it a nice hiding?!
-
it's there as group A rules stated that a car equiped with an air flow meter as factory had to have one connected to the inlet tract to race in group A. since the engine management they used ran MAP sensors they got a stock AFM, bolted it to the engine bay, then plumbed it in with a small piece of vacuum hose. so it met the rules. a nice example of how race teams will bend the rules as much as possible.

haha, yes, I have been stranded between gallerys before and just had to hug cliff wall for a while! done some passenger rides too with willing japanese drifters and that blew me away, but watching from outside was far scarier. I'll be heading back soon. don't know exactly when as life is a bit un-predictable atm. supposed to be off to jakarta next week to talk about a job there. If I take it I will be flat stick over there and wont have time for the frequent japan trips, but it will hopefully lead to a job in the tokyo office in 12 months or so. once I know how that pans out I will book something mid year maybe (will try to avoid summer though) and definitely try to do my usual november/december trip. I have plenty of mileage points so it's time to put them to use! oh, and yes the drifting up in Tsukuba mountain was awesome. I've been to a few different places over the years (nanko, industrial area near chiba, industrial area near tsukuba, minoo, makuhari etc etc) but Tsukuba mountain was by far the best/craziest. It has to be said that some times I went to the other places were probably off nights so I can't really compare too much.

I dunno if I'd go that far! you have some pretty cool experiences there and done lots of different things to me. Kyoto is beautiful. I went down there once in autumn and it was just amazing. also, you are so right about the togue thing. the first time I heard 10 or 15 drift cars in a row coming through the mountains up in Tsukuba my hair was on end, then as they passed me drifting at what must be 130+ I was scared stiff, and of course wanted to do it again and again and again. amazing skill, and absolutely nuts. Hell, I am probably even more nuts for standing on the side!

21,000 a pair = $100 each. (approx) anyway, that has nothing to do with the price of melons. awesome pics, and sounds like you had a great experience in japan too. thanks for sharing them.

Sau Nsw Monthly Dinner - Thursday 31st January
Beer Baron replied to Merli's topic in Events Archive
count me in love muffin. I'm trying to be persuaded onto a plane bound for jakarta tomorrow night, but if all goes well that will be pushed back to next week. so it's thai orchid ahoy. can't bring the GTR though, but I will bring the legacy GT, which is full JDM yo, and probably the only one in aus, so that still makes me cool.... right? don't look at me like that. you drive a freaking german mobile. so the real question is now that I'm a half assed beer baron who is stocking the super chiller for us? -
yes they did! well, sort of. they had it out on the track the day before nismo festival, but I saw it in the pits on the day of nismo festival. I would say it's a test either for super taikyu series or some other production based series, hell maybe even a GTR 1 make series (doubt that though).

incorrect valve clearances will definitely give you a noisy valve train and often it's difficult to pick bottom of engine noises from head noises. it's possible they didn't think it worth checking (unlikely), or maybe couldn't get a hold of the shims needed (less common these days, than it used to be), but I wouldn't point the finger just yet. this is just a diagnosis phase. I don't think having the timing out by 1 tooth would cause any engine damage, but at the same time I wouldn't promise that it wont either. get that fixed and try again. some one with a good ear for RB26 should be able to tell you what the noise is. It can be tough as there are lots of noises going on. injectors are noisy, clutch fan is noisy, and the valve train is a little noisy too (though usually not as loud as the injectors).

Tomei Sump Baffle For Rb26- How To Install It?
Beer Baron replied to drifter 33's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
yes definitley spend lots of time with metho and a razor blade removing all the old sealant and dirt from both the sump AND the block mating surfaces. and cleaning out the sump itself is a top idea too. as is the 'don't over do the gasket goo' advice. my engine in the grey car was rebuilt in japan and they used a shitload of goo. nice work WRRR! -
New Motor Mag. 422kw Maloo. Wtf
Beer Baron replied to R33GOD's topic in General Automotive Discussion
some people in this thread have found it offensive to ascribe certain attributes to a whole race of people and have reported it to admin. this is pretty much the basis of what is known as racism. so cut it out. the next person to try and be clever and funny by bagging a whole race of people will get warning and/or temporary banning. -
dude, it could not have been imported without a VIA. simple. you physically could not get it off a boat and through customs. so it definitely had one. looking at the car I'd say it was under the 15yo scheme. contact whoever the owner was that imported it (ie not j-spec they are just the broker). the import approval would be in his name. unless it's a SEVS car in which case the workshop complying it would have applied for the VIA. don't stress, I'm sure it will be fine.

since this thread has degenerated into a random discussion (without any help from me I might add!) I will use it to reply to a post in your last thread directed at me: 1. I never said I don't care about material possesions. I love material possesions. I am a material girl, in a material world. I buy as many expensive consumer products as I can get my hands on. 2. I have had one of my R33 GTRs stolen before. and it was not recovered. and yes my insurance company promptly investigated, then handed me the cheque. I banked it and moved on. I was pissed off when it happend but yeah about 30 minutes after I got the cheque I was over it. I didn't lose any money, just a bit of farking around. As much as I love it it's just a car after all and it wasn't the last R33 GTR V Spec on the planet so no point worrying about it. It's probably in UAE somewhere right now, I hope the new owner enjoys it. RIP Silver Car

yeah, just turn on your wireless and hit connect. most macdonalds have free wireless too as do starbucks and the like. or if you are lucky someone in the vicinity of where you are staying will have unsecured net you can 'utilise'...
-
no prob, I haven't played it for ages but will jump on later and add you.
-
make it into a door I reckon. could be good and easy to make too.
-
if that is true it will be a big change from all other current Super GT cars which use conventional sequential boxes not DSGs. and there is very little in common with the road going car, having seen and even touched the new R35 Super GT car it is just like most other Japanese Super GT cars. purpose built race car with a dry carbon body that resembles the road car. that's it.

Tomei Sump Baffle For Rb26- How To Install It?
Beer Baron replied to drifter 33's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
there are some instructions with them. they are in japanese but there are pictures, it's pretty self explanatory really. they hard part is getting the engine out and the sump off so you are pretty much home and hosed.
