I think Meridiant do nicer cages but Brown Davis are on the tech board for rallying and also a consultant to Vic roads. So if you get some nice racey seats with high leg supports and the side intrustion is in line with the sides of the seats then you can say that the cages doesnt really imeded access, ie you make the seat the biggest issue. But, yeh have a chat with both of them...be interesting to hear the outcome.

The cars can be perfectly road legal if built carefully, but the biggest stumbling block is the side intrusion which you need in a rally car which an engineer may deem restricts normal egress/ingress .

ewwww. I just stepped in RB30!

Racepace Built R34 Gtr Nur Rb28 V-cam
Roy replied to tangomatt's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Stop giving Racepace things to do on this car I can see it now when they walk out of the office after their morning coffee... "Should we work on Matt's mint GTR or Troy's shitter GTSt full of ill fitting parts and seized bolts?" ... lol one day my car will turn a wheel in anger again Once you get the shocks in the thing will have to be close to R34 perfection. Just to get out there and start giving it a punt on the track at whatever speed you are comfortable with -
Lots of people ask about strokers and talk abotu RB20 build ups...but typically they are never seen to fruition. I am the worlds worst offender I think you will struggle to get definitive feedback on the improvements from a 2.2L. Expect that it may make the same difference of dropping an A/R housing, so guess about 200-300rpm improvement in lowering the power band!??!?!?!?!
-
Will cut, cut, snip snip Take it all
-
Yeh, if you have a decent enough budget, or the skills to do thins yourself then that is a big factor. But agree that strokers represent poor value compared to what other options. I will do one because I have been grabbing the parts when the pop up cheat (about 5 years). So now how have Tomei 2.4L pistons, solid lfters, cams, springs crank and rods all for less then 2k But its all been said before. RB30s are for those that prefer roofies to romance. And RB25 into R32 transplants are for those that would sleep with their girlfriend's easy friend! ... i suppose i should add that if brains were dynamite most RB20 owners could not blow their noses
-
If you dont have a considerable cage with side intrusion i would not take anything out of the door
-
Sweet, another tidy little GTSt...they are a capable car. I am taking it that your 1/4 time is before turbo upgrade? Any plans for the future , other then punting th ething until the wheels fall off?

If all you are after is 250rwkws then just throw in a std motor or do a simple rebuild with new bearings. There are plenty of people running around with 250-280rwkws in std RB20s with std plenums, cams, heads and bottom ends. They are strong motors. I hear what people say about bigger RB transplants, but there is the engineering side of things to consider and registration/insurance side of things that mean its not so easy. Also, if you want all out performance i find it strange that so many people buy into the torque wins races etc. Sure its important and great on a street car as it makes the performance so lazy....but in a rwd platform it means you often spent lots of your time going sideways rather then forward. R32s are not that heavy so dont really need huge amounts of torque. Look at rotors, once on boost its jsut as much about hp then it is about torque down low. They are also geared pretty short std so forget all about what rpm the thing makes boost and power an dconsider at what road speed does the thing make power and boost. Small differentiation but makes a big difference to the performance of a car and something that so many people dont even consider. They see a dyno and they want the x scale in rpm? Why, its road speed that matters! Take this for example... Here is an example of what i was saying about not to forget wheel diameter and gearing. Here is the same RB20 (internally 100% std, cams head gasket etc)above vs two R34 Neo RB25s running GCG high Flow Turbos and Tomei cams. I think there are a few options... STD RB20 with a turbo and ECU upgrade Compared to a std turbo RB26 with Poncams, and same dyno and same tuner As you would expect the Rb26 spans the RB20 down low, but in the rev range that you use at the track the RB20 punches well above its weight! If you really want to rebuild it then i think all you want to do is go oversized pistons, bump compression up to 9.0:1 and run a nice turbo and tune, even better if you can get E85 with the higher compression ratio. 2.1-2.2L with a bump in compression to help with the off boost drivability. It is all relative, but i think its good to hear and read different experiences and examples. Torque is great at frying tyres, but if youa re going to put the bigger RB in the R32 GTSt you probably want the longer diff ratio and better supension to try and help with handling the torque hike.

LOL, just curious to know what difference power made to the lap times. I am always on the prowl for a good R32 or S13 Silvia as the basis of a build up...but being OS means it has to really be a good buy to throw into storage for when i get back. My dirty2 is not getting any more mods after the RB24. Nex car is going to be so stripped it will resemble something from Mad Max 2
-
Will add if you have a complete motor that is either cheap or dead bottom end then could also be interested. But block and head must be on good condition.
-
I have some good gear to throw in a head, but figured will do it to a spare head rather then my current engine and do a back to back. So does anyone have a head that is in good condition that they want to get rid of? Dont need cam gears, manifolds or any electrics etc, but if it comes with that then it cant hurt.

They do have the best jobs in the world...
-
Some say dont track a car you cant afford (financially or emtionally) to bin and write off. I think thats a bit extreme regarding track stuff, but think it coul dbe close to the mark for a tarmac rally car. Your GTR is so mint, makes good power with all the nice bits. It will make a great tarmac car....but yeh, i suppose its only a car so go for it.

Yeh, i alost get into a rage when i see silver 32s that are cooler then mine! I need some cage action
-
All the good R32 GTSts have been punted in the rear righ quarter, especially the good silver ones... Must be a common thing with silver 32s as i was lucky too Go the dirty2 GTSTs

Installing R33 Brembos On An R32
Roy replied to NISSAN GTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The GTR Brembos are close to a bolt on solution. You will need to mod or remove the stone guard, maybe mod the bracket for the brake line...but it is all pretty simple stuff -
The Best. Forget It, It's Over, Wrap It Up!

Well its not the Burger Ring but another epic/famous stretch of road in a Porsche -
Full bolt on kit, pads, lines,m brackets etc etc

I grabbed these because they were cheap and they are Endless copies. Never really planned on using them, just curious to take a closer look at them. They came out around the same time as the HKS/Endless jobbies. They appear to be identical to the VTTR 6 pot setup, Central 20 Setups so seems there are plenty of people re-badging the same brakes out of the same factory. Though i doubt they are from teh same factory as Endless as the quality does not appear to be comparable These are an ex demo set that have been on display, I grabbed them because I was curious to see how good a setup they were for the money. My mechanic looked them over and said they are decent enough and comparable to the G4/D2 things. Being a copy of the Endless calipers pads etc shoudlbe easy. They come with calipers, mounts, lines, pads and 2 pce rotors which i understand are 332x 30. They could be 330x30mmmcant say as I have not measured them up. They are suitable for R32/33 GSTts and S13/14 and 300ZX. Unused, not even bolted to a car and still in packaging Will see if I can arrange someone to take pics of the setup for me Asking $1650 + delivery. $1,600 if you can do pick up

Trust/greddy T67 Turbo Kit Rb20/rb25
Roy replied to pimpenr33's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Yeh, i have a couple of TD06-20G and a TD06-25G, i understand the T67 is in between so could be the better compromise I am looking for -
I have done a Caterham R400 and made me depressed how compromised any road car is for going fast around a track. And an R400 is something like a HQ Holden compared to a Radical

Trust/greddy T67 Turbo Kit Rb20/rb25
Roy replied to pimpenr33's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Would you be interested in selling just the turbo??? Be good if you could PM me your price -
What Russman said. Small mod to hub for bigger bolts and 310mm goodness. Also, plenty of jap manufacturers make good quality rotors for the R34 GTT so you have access to a good range of wuality rotors to boot. Other then that if yo ucan buy some good quality used R32 GTR brakes then that could be a good thing. But they are old so make sure the seals are in good condition, no corrosion on pistons and rotors are not hammered.
