    R35 Windscreen

Does anyone know where/when a non-OEM windscreen will be released? I've heard it should be "real soon now" Meanwhile we have to source them from Nissan (about $800~$1000 each) which is at least double what we should be paying.
  4. as long as you maintain the same diameter / height front to back you will be ok. ie. the combined height of wheel + tyre needs to be the SAME (or within about 2%) front to back, otherwise VDC will kick in (thinks you are wheel spinning). So yes in theory you can run a different diameter wheel, as long as the tyre size/profile compensates to make the front and back wheel+tyre the same approx height. Hope ths makes sense. You might want to think about the tyre pressure monitor thing too.
  5. I am keen for a wing, please send me a price delivered to postcode 2035 duncan_forrest at optushome.com.au i need two quotes, one for a fixed version and the other the dynamic (i dont think i can run the split version). You should get lots of exposure next year we plan on lots of video work showing all components on the car! cheers.
  6. Looking for expressions of interest from someone keen to help crew for TWO road going R35 GTR's for the 2010 NSW Supersprint Championship. We need someone with ute or truck (to transport tyres + tools to and from events). Responsibilities include transporting and fitting tyres, checking/setting pressures, checking fluids, basic maintenance and perhaps setting up camera systems etc. Mechanical experience not essensital but will helkp if you know your way around a car. Must be Sydney based (or close) with reliable transport. Will pay a daily CASH rate + fuel + lunch etc. Will need to commit to full round of 2010 season which is as follows.. Round 1: Sunday 17/01/10 OPGP Round 2: Sunday 7/03/10 eastern creek Round 3: Sunday 2/05/10 wakefield park Round 4: Sunday 16/05/10 eastern creek Round 5: Saturday 5/06/10 wakefield park Round 6: Sunday 20/06/10 wakefield park Round 7: Sunday 8/08/10 eastern creek Round 8: Sunday 29/08/10 eastern creek Round 9: Sunday 26/09/10 wakefield park Two cars in question should be contenders for top 10 outright at each round & we need your help! They are long days we need cars to be ready by 7:30am and usually do not finish until about 4pm, leaving track about 5pm. Perfect for apprentice mechanic or similar who may be interested in amateur / club level motorsport. But anyone keen enough please PM for details thanks. Cheers!
  7. awesome. details when you can please. interested in the TE37 clearances and your thoughts on the Michelins. I was looking at the Dunlop site today, they make a 330 slick! Also, if you have anu data on lateral g's i would love to hear about it.
  8. congrats Martin. Any pics or video?
  9. i was a little disappointed missing out on some of the features other markets have, but to be quite blunt, after driving the car in anger I COULDNT GIVE A RATS.
  10. I just used a generic 3mm spacer (not hub-centric, too small to be hub-centric I think). Plus I was running the extended wheel studs. No problems at all.
  11. I hear you. It's a good point about compromising an otherwise completely good road car (I've done that before too). I'm in two minds about it. I haven't decided which direction to go in, which is part of the reason for this thread. I don't drive the car daily, however I still need to drive to and from the track, and have the car APPEAR somewhat legal from a distance... I don't want extra attention (from the law). Re-installing factory seats, door trims, speakers and what-not shouldnt be too much drama should it? Yes it destroys the DD aspect of the car for sure, but I probably don’t care about that, as long as it yields results and I can reverse it. But, I know you are right about this.. It's a slippery slope!
  12. After ideas for relatively easy reversible weight saving options for our R35's... Thus far i've replaced the mid-pipe (probably five to ten kg saving there) track rims/tyres (about 40kg saving) removed passenger seats, front and back (about 25kg) rear seats and seatbelts (maybe 4kg ~ 5kg). Thinking to put a race seat in (probably another 20kg saving) The door trims look to weigh a LOT (anyone know if there are any carbon door trims replacements available?) So that leaves exhaust (catback) i suppose Also i usually run low fuel (say 1/4 tank) Any other ideas? I dont fancy removing carpet or sound deadening as i would like the option to put back to road car status if possible (although would be interested to know how much all that carpet etc. weighs if anyone knows!).
  13. Lucky buggers! I wish i was going but i need to rest the car (and myself!). Please take lots of pics, videos and scalps! Good luck fellas
  14. John, 20mm offset on the front isnt going to work, it will stick out of the front guards (i need to avoid that due to cams rules). I think a 9.5" with 25mm offset may work.
  15. You can only test so much in this fashion, but yes they've done some hardness/ultrasonic testing. A problem is we havent tested say Rays to compare. It's hardly scientific. I guess we can say the wheel has no obvious flaws. An old racer i spoke to says he used to xray every wheel he raced on, and reckons about 50% of the wheels he tested had some flaws. Anyway the ultimate test was smashing it around Oran Park bouncing off the curbs in an R35 pulling way more than 1.5g's. There will always be keyboard jockies who could find holes in such non-scientific testing. We should just leave it at that. I think the wheels are good value, and reasonable quality.
  16. Good point, i wonder how many times i would have had to switch our the stocker gr6 fluid. Although i am very careful to keep the temps down (manageable with only 3 or 4 hot laps for SS format) and i always spend extra time cooling the car afterwards too. I am not sure i want to know what floaty bits are in the tranny fluid. Time for a fluid refresh though.
  17. In general the AWD Turbo rules have been revised for 2010 yes. I suppose to tighten up the competition a bit, which is fair enough i suppose. I didnt realise the R35 would have enough speed to run towards the pointy end. Great road/track car, despite it's elephant proportions and hefty 1700+ kegs.
  18. ok, will be interesting to see how you go. You may want to review cams sports sedans rules before talking to them. I noticed in the marketing stuff for aeromotions you can run the wing in a fixed position to satisfy racing regs, say for a given meeting, please ask them if they would allow that (if you get an initial negative response) i will be interested to know. my email address is duncan_forrest at optushome.com.au please emai me your pricing and availability for the fixed and dynamic wing. (non-split versions). FWIW i think CAMS regs will exclude spilt designs entirely.
  19. Interesting stuff. Do you know of anyone running these wings (active or static) in any aussie CAMS sanctioned event? I have asked our eligilibility officer to look into it, for the 2010 season.
  20. Really? cmon guys just share. I will buy from them if good, promise! Actually i know some guys from MMS. Will ask today.
  21. Well I've had the R35 for 6 months now. I've done eight rounds of the NSW Sprint Championship and about five practice days. The car has run faultlessly over those 13 track days thus far. The final NSW Supersprint round was wound up a couple of weeks back, somehow I ended up with the State Title outright, thanks to this exceptional road car. For anyone interested, here is the score card for the 2009 NSW Sprint series: Round 1 - Did not run, waiting for GTR to be delivered! Round 2 - Oran Park GP - 1st in Type and Class, new lap record (1.17.34) 2nd for Outright points Round 3 - - 1st in Type and Class, new lap record (1:05:35) 2nd for Outright points Round 4 - - 1st in Type and Class, new lap record (1:46.75) 10th for Outright pointsRound 5 - - 1st in Type and Class, 2nd for Outright pointsRound 6 - - 1st in Type and Class, new lap record (1.16.90) 3rd for Outright pointsRound 7 - - 1st in Type and Class, new lap record (1.44.80) 3rd for Outright pointsRound 8 - - 1st in Type and Class, new lap record (1.16.76) 4th for Outright pointsRound 9 - - 1st in Type and Class, FTD (46.37) 1st for Outright PointsLeading into round 9, I was a single point behind the outright leader Jason Hart. In order to win, with just one round remaining, I needed a two point outright win over Jason for the last round, to avoid a tie with Jason and subsequent countback (where he would have won). Given i had already won my type and class for the year, i took the advantage to run slicks, a tune and reduced weight (removed front and rear pax seats). Thus effectively switching classes - running in type SV with slicks - thus falling into Type 4 - hopefully maximising my chances for outright points in a last ditch grab to secure the outright Championship. It was a bit of a long shot that paid off.... Result: I was lucky enough to finish fastest on the day! with Stuart Inwood running second, and Jason Hart third, thus yielding a single point margin ahead of Jason to win the NSW Championship outright. I couldnt believe it. Special thanks o the following who supported me throughout the season: Willall Racing Martin put together a good package on his Tranmission fluid and mid-pipe earlier in the year to get me started. Then followed up at the final round (where i could run ECU mods) with his RPM based WGDC control tune to provide the edge on power (yet delivered in a linear fashion) perfect for my circuit racing application. Results speak for themselves, thanks Martin. Russo Performance and Big Banger Lautray For help with those fiddly jobs requiring a hoist (mid-pipe and transmission fluid swap) Russo provided readines to help support a sap like me hack up a new R35 - greatly appreciated guys! And Erik, massive thanks for all your support throughout the year man, awesome, i value your mateship and support. Jeez, who else would help pull apart the R35 hubs at midnight leading up to a track day? Donnellans Tyres Box Hill, Otomoto Wheels and Joel! Donnellans for the Enkies and good supply of RE55's (sometimes an issue getting supply of those).. good prices, always delivered on time. Donnellans are the biggest Bridgestone dealer in the country. Tyres are the No.1 modification in my book. Thanks to Otomoto for getting those Rota rims in too, they paid off, despite the nay sayers. And special thanks to Joel for getting me those p-cup slicks as well, cheers mate. They played a key role, and will next year i think. Now, get me a couple dozen more! (please?) Wholesale Suspension Penrith Matt and Luke devised a clever option to modify front suspension bushes to yield a further -1* of negative camber on the R35. They also looked after my setup all season, thanks guys! Sorry i didnt put a credit in the last video, it slipped my mind (will edit asap, promise!). A steak dinner is coming your way Matt. VSport Sydney Supply of Rotors, Pads, wheel studs/nuts, brake and diff fluids etc. John Healey at VSport has often gone BEYOND the call to get parts and fluids to me at the last minute. Critical support yet again, thanks John. What next? Dunno! More track days i suppose. Currently digesting the 2010 season rules which were released this last weekend. Moral of the story: good example showing just how solid and robust the R35 actually is, capable of dealing with many repeated track assults, faultlessly and almost effortlessly. Great car!
  22. Interesting. i dont think you would bother for the weight saving alone (curiously they dont mention how much weight saving..). The front 1/4s are alloy anyway arent they? FWIW you can run a 300mm -ish wide tyre with the stock 1/4 panels, so keep that in mind. I have found running 295's up front helps with the understeer issue. Get an offset front bush on the upper control arm for a fraction of the price (extra -1* neg camber) and see how much crisper turns wil be with that.
  23. Will be interested to see the pics!
  24. xray scans of the rota rims, after one track day: http://www.forrestfamily.com.au/duncan/GTR...rota_xray_1.JPG http://www.forrestfamily.com.au/duncan/GTR...rota_xray_0.JPG apparently the cast is perfect.
  25. Ahh yes.. 1749kg is WHY the 35 circulates around the ring as quick as it does. Downforce, 390kg per corner + driver and fluids, lol.
