  1. As i said, go do your lap times and get consistent first. In 2-3 years, visit cams if you wanna spend money. Seriously. On a dyno, loaded up - probably will see increases/gains. However will that equate to faster lap times? Potentially not. Circuit GTR's down here were faster with stock cams compared to larger ones (Poncams etc). They had aftermarket cams in them (i can think of 5 GTRs instantly), put stock ones back in and all was the better for it. Lap times are a FAR better judge of such things, and you will not be in a position to do that - for at least 2-3 years. You need to stop parts racing, and start racing yourself first.
  2. Well clearly you have done some danger to your manifold... Aside from that, boost controller line doesnt have much to do with it. Its probably just increased boost a bit. Not the best idea (depending on how much), but if you are lucky no major long term damage The real damage is: 1. The fact you have no/low oil 2. You've put junk oil in there Do NOT start the car with mineral oil. Drain it ASAP & Buy the correct oil for the car before doing anything further. Workout how much Mineral you put in - and then see how much leftover comes out. I suspect not much. Which will mean one of a few things. 1. Its last service, wasnt filled up correctly 2. You have a leak somewhere. If it's been 6-12 months since your last service then it's possible you've not really noticed oil levels dropping. In future, you should check your oil once a fortnight or similar mate. Always good to know whats going on in that department
  3. Indeed. Given i think figures of around 25-30% less flow (compared to a 25 head)... That's even oversized valves, massive porting etc. Would exacerbate the problem of power delivery/RPM & torque band even more so with everything required to be "super sized" to be able to make use of 10k

  5. Issue is going to be in the head and getting it to hold the RPM. As it's a 20, the parts are not common nor are they cheap. Everything from cams, valves, porting. It's very much uncharted territory so a lot of it will simply educated, but not proven decision. Oil - perhaps. However most RB20's seem to be OK in standard form up to around 8000rpm/260-280rwkw. It would stand to reason that you'd have to investigate and compare between 25/26 and 20 returns, feeds etc etc. Only way to get an idea for sure. Given you are an apprentice mechanic, even doing the work alone it's going to cost you 6-12 months salary just to get the head together IMO. I mean yes its good to be different, but a RB26 @ 8,000 will realistically do what a RB20 does @ 10,000-11,000rpm. Food for thought. Also consider a RB20 will run happily upto 8,000rpm & 260-280rwkw in stock form. Unless you are chasing upwards of 340rwkw, you'll never even use 10,000rpm which would mean you are effectively moving the RPM range from ~4500-8000 upto 5,500/6,000-10,000 and having nothing below that. Good luck moving the weight of a GTS4 without any torque below such RPM. It would make for a dreadful street or track car. Only purpose would perhaps be drag. but then a cheap "dirty 30" (25/30) would be faster for probably 1/4 the expense.

  10. The car is build plated as turbo If you really do "work in the industry", you'd realise that regardless of what motor - all the officer has to do is look at the REGO STICKER. It's a TURBO VEHICLE regardless of whether there is actually a turbo in the engine bay. The Police don't care. You could take it to court, then try explain why you have a illegal motor in the car. I bet that'll go down brilliantly, so make sure you let me know if it does. I'll fly up just to sit there and listen in.

  13. Well it should be because you might as well leave the RB20DET in there. You are illegal regardless. At least when you get defected, realise it was a dumb idea to buy the turbo... You'll actually be able to sell it. As opposed to with a RB30E, illegal motor, car is now not worth a cent.
  14. Go and read my post. Then read it again. Then continue reading The car is BUILD PLATED as TURBO. - You cannot put a RB30E into a R32 and be legal if my recollection of laws is correct (I'm usually pretty on the money), meaning RB20E and RB25DE are your choices etc. You cannot put an older motor, into a newer chassis. - You need to RE-ENGINEER it, that is not free to begin with. They might also emissions test you, again not free. It's not a simple case of "motor out, motor in - I've beaten the system". It might pay you to investigate the laws before getting wild ideas.
  15. The crux of the issue is basically this. 1. You are on Ps 2. You were dumb and purchased an illegal turbo 3.a. you have already been defected 3.b. you are worried about being defects 4. You think RB30E will fix all the above? Sadly kid - It's illegal and not registrable. You cannot go BACKWARDS to the chassis. It breaks all the ADR's.
  16. You can never have both. As Richard said - stock cams + cam gears. Why spend $1000-1500 on cams/fitting/tune etc for what might be nothing.

  19. Stock cams don't work well, they work best. That's the more accurate point i think. You are running small turbos, putting in bigger cams will negate the bonus/advantage of having them. Cams always look good on a dyno sheet. But if they don't help your lap time - what's the point You are building a mild, yet fast track GTR,as many of us have said - don't try reinvent the wheel. Use what everyone else does! the first 2-3 years you'll get more gains from simply driving. Only then, try development mod/testing as you won't be consistent enough.
