  1. I've run alightly decked block (20 thou) in the past. other than needing to run a thicker head gasket to keep the valves off the pistons it was fine
  2. everything including the ECU runs off the same speed sender so they will all read close enough the same. tyre size (ie different to standard) is the most likely reason for the speedo to be out - have you tested it back to a GPS?
  3. Thanks mate, details sent. It is looking very (too?) busy that month
  4. are they actually japanese tyres? go back to whoever complied it and remind them they have to fit new tyres at compliance by law
  5. no, actually that is a very unusual description of a skyline gearshift, they are pretty good compared to 99% of cars out there. is there a heap of movement in the shifter without it starting to change gears at all? if so the good news is there is a 2c nylon bush at the bottom of the shifter that is easily replaced.
  6. there should be 2 threaded holes in the disc, these are for screwing a bolt in to force the disc off the hub - M6 bolt from memory. if the disc is being stubborn use those
  7. If you've got standard brakes the original rims will fit straigth on

Yes, Pete (sorry about the spelling lol). and that car was repaired and is doing gt cup now afaik. the other 2 are spare parts at best. I would suggest checking carefully before assuming you can have a cams and road legal cage in the car. CAMS cages have to either be built to one of a couple of standard designs, or be fully modelled by an engineer to prove it meets the requirements. I don't know the road engineering rules in each state but there are requirements about removeable side intrusion bars and minimum distance from bars to driver's head. Best to talk to an engineer in your state to confirm how or if a cams cage can be legal. Finally, under CAMS rules scruitineers can knock back a car with a non-approved cage, even if a cage is not a requirement for the event (ie they deem a non-compliant cage may be more dangerous than no cage at all). Make sure it is CAMS approved.
  9. yeah....I don't know where a roll pin is used in the 2wd box (there is one in the shift linkage in the gtr box). But you should probably assume it is meant to hold some critical part that spins at 8000rpm in place..... drop and replace or rebuild that box.
  10. *Inappropriate comment removed* Lets think before posting. Its bad enough these things happen, and it has happened in our community only a short time ago. Best wishes to the family and friends
  11. would love to be there...but won't be able to make qld before THC...even after will be tight but the timing is good with work for a change looking forward to catching up with all you mad banana benders
  12. btw stephen...you based up there these days??
  13. jeebus, looks like another sr8. can't find results from the 15/7 round on natsoft though. thanks for the calendar noel....I'm already booked for targa high country on 5-7 November, and the nationals @morgan park are 13-14/11. Very tight....will need successful survival of THC and pay someone to truck the car to qld if I am going there! The round I'd aim for is Tuesday 23/11. fingers crossed. anyway...looks like the lap times are here: http://www.timeattack.com.au/about/about/lap-data-2009.html. great list of skyline entries, good to see
  14. interesting turn out of cars, I'm sure I recognise at least some of the nuggets. what is the calendar for the rest of the year? I will be up there for the nationals at morgan park and would love to have a run at one of Paul's days too.
  15. agreed. 1 is an unfortunate occurrance. 5 is a mistake that needs some responsibility. re the block...the scoring doesn't look good, but you will need a machine shop to check out whether it just needs a hone or a bore out. either way its not really a problem to reuse up to about 87mm.
  16. hi mate, hicas bars are pretty simple (and pretty much all the same). Smoe kits include a loop back for the pipes which is the easiest option, if you want the other options there are a range of detailed threads around if you search. But as well as that, at least a basic attessa controller, and a good wheel alignment should help heaps. What are your current wheel alignment settings?
  17. no its easier than that. As blind_elk said, just swap the internals of a diff (gtr if you want the mech centre) into your existing housing. that way you know everything bolts up fine. so all you need is a 2nd hand gtr diff and someone who can assemble it properly. BTW blind_elk...do you have the numbers for gtst and gts4 as well. this thread is a valuable reference now

glad you are asking that question....your lap times at Eastern Creek are excellent but they reflect that the car is going extremely quickly. In fact you and Marek would have the fastest non-caged cars ever at that track I bet. The reality is it will only take a single critical component failure and you are into the wall at 250+. I broke a castor rod there years ago, and I understand Stu had a wheel bearing seize just last week. It does happen, and then all you are is uncontrolled momentum. I only know 3 gtrs locally that have been written off (Leehmuis, Quinn and Jones), all had full cages and all walked away from a destroyed car. Kel was in the car for one of those crashes and can confirm it hit hard but kept it's cabin protected. No idea how you can judge the comparitive safety of caged vs uncaged, except remember that the uncaged car is designed to deal with the sorts of accidents that happen on the road, not things like big rollovers or straight on into a wall at well over road speeds.
  19. interesting. i guess that's why the r35 systems runs seperate eyelets for pretty much every wire, all to common studs. stuffed if I could work out why, it must be very sensitive
  20. fwiw....a nismo engineer told me years ago this was a must do mod...will be interested to see the results.
  21. got any pics of the diff centre? If it is 4.1 ratio it is gtr not gts4 (they are 4.4 ratio). i guess they just got the backlash wrong when changing the cente to do that sort of damage. but a gtr pinion should not cost too much? how many teeth on the pinion? you can always confirm the ratio by turning the tailshaft and counting the halfshaft turns
  22. interesting idea though....I'll be in for a wsid night if there is a gathering. would be pretty funny to see a volvo attack on wsid.
  23. guys contact selbys swaybars in minto. new owners (sydneykid is gone unfortunately) but they still have the machinery and samples to bend up everything (about 3000 sway bars on the wall last time I was there). the m35 one will still be there. won't be as cheap as whiteline but its great to support a local business.
  24. my bloody race car does the same thing at idle...always has and everything except the loom has been changed over the years. runs fine above idle though so it's never worried me too much.....
  25. if not, I have front and rear r32 gtr you can borrow, I will be in goulburn in 2 weeks if you want to catch up there. same condition re deposit of course.
