There is too many choices in what car to get!! argh. ive got someoe looking at my car, and im really keen to sell it and upgrade. thats where i get stumped... upgrade to what? while not the best Q to ask on a model specific forum, ill throw it in anyway.

some cars ive been looking at:

1. r33 GTST

2. R32 GTR

3. Subaru WRX about a '97 model

4. Holden VR/S V8 or S/C Statesman

5. Holden VR Senator

those cars ive found to be in my price range, tho some of the r32 GTRs do need a little TLC on them. I also know some are over the power to weight laws of Vic, but the police of my town are fairly lient on the matter, and also i know a few of them from past dealings with them with the family.

Are there any other options i could look into? i dont drive often, i have only managed 4000kms in the commodore over the past 13months ive owned it. and im considered by mates that im a fairly sane/good-ish driver, and i wouldnt mind a little bit of power. im not gunna set time aside as yet to look for test drives, as the VS is still around and finding spare time with my work sucks...

throw some opinions in here id like to hear them.

PS. i think this topic would be useful to most in a similar situation, weighing up options n stuff.

stagea rb25 awd, theres a series 2 with neo rb25 and tiptronic auto pearl white in colour in good cond at a perth yard for 19 900 i think ono as well, could get it for 17k i reckon, and its a 2000 model with all options :P

better value and comparable to r34 gt-t's for half the price :D extra wight is the only downfall, but its capable of being practicle for everyday use compared to 2 door coupes.

you wont get a 32 GTR that cheap unless its a POS. a WRX would be very nice i love the older models. And a 33 Gts-T would be hot too. but i wouldnt go holden mate. youl regret it when you see a turbo 6 smoke you off :P

yeah, holdens are at the bottom of the list, i will take one for a test drive sometime to get it out of my system i think ;)

am i allowed to post links to other sites? anyhoo...

http://www.imports101.com.au/view.php?car=1462

they are similar to this one

i kinda dont want a 'family' car, tho stageas are cool, i kinda want something more sporty...im not really keen on 4-door skylines either.

there a bp walking distance away with ultimate and all that. and theres 3 other servos around that supply premium. petrol isnt a prob :D the BP here didnt run out of ultimate either when they had all that happen...

lol, sorry Spook's_Skyline but im after a car for me, as im usually the only one in it except on kfc runs. :P

Hows about work out if you want RWD or 4WD, that will make your choice a bit easier. 32GTR would be they way to go, but then you'll have a 89 model, R33's are sweet and newer, WRX are cheap a good but seems as tho you need to be 40+ to have one! as for Holdens unless it's a Manual V8 don't bother, actually just don't bother with them.

And what about a 180sx or Silvia. S14 would be good.

Good luck with your choice!

That GTR is a PIG! If that's what you can afford I would not even consider it. Photos always look better than real life, and there are many things wrong with that car. The dealer claims no rips on seats, so why take a photo of the passenger seat and not the driver's seat .

Anyway.......

Personally I would go an immaculate R32 GTS-T (preferably with an rb25 conversion  ), an immaculate R33 GTS-T, or the WRX. How about a Subaru Legacy GT-B (twin turbo)

Shameless Plug.............. :nyaanyaa:

If you want something different my mate has a mildly modified Suzuki Cappuccino, for sale. Being sold due to a new business venture, needed a car that could carry goods.

3-cyl, turbo, rwd, hardtop->Targa->Full convertible, 2 seater, small sized car

Has upgraded Suzuki Motorsport: ECU, Injectors & Turbo.

With a Blitz BOV and hi-flow exhaust system.

PM me if you are interested.

Poor guy... go on a Holden forum, and they'll prolly tell you to get the senator and stuff skylines.

Having owned both, the V8's are toquey as anything, but chew through the fuel. Comfortable though, heaps of legroom, glovebox room, boot space... the Skylines have none of that.

Stagea's are nice, but they're kinda big if you're looking for something sporty.

I would have to recommend the R33GTST. You'd get a very clean one for ~20K. Something a little rougher for 14-17K that you've budgeted. It's sporty, fairly economical when stock, and very moddable if you decide to go that way later.

Parts are cheaper for Holdens too... so you have to factor in that sort of stuff, but since you are hardly driving, I don't think it'll be a big issue.

I managed to get my R33 for 13K after a 3K trade in, and 1K discount for the 18" alloys that it had on it.

My second choice would be (and was at the time) an R34 GTT. The 4-door tiptronic ones are around 18K, and if you find one with a factory body kit, they look quite sporty.

lol at the cappucino, what kinda power is that putting out ?

I think 65rwkw, BUT only weighs about 700kg

A typical standard-ish R33 has a power(rw) to weight ratio of about 9.3kg/kw

This Cappacino has a power(rw) to weight ratio of about 10.7kg/kw

So it wont bet a R33 in a straight line, but on the track and motokana's it is a different story (due to it's size and low centre of gravity).

PS: It has only been on the track ONCE, but was overtaking a few typical R33's

Note: power(rw) = power reading taken from the rear wheels

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
