Hey all,

Just a quick note to everyone competiting in 2006 in track days that there is a new requirement for Modified Skylines to be equipped with a harness when competiting in the WRX Club events. i.e. cars that fall into either our Modified RWD or Modified AWD classes. But all cars should consider one anyways. They make driving around a track so much easier as you dont have to try and hold yourself in place whilst driving.

I can recommend Meridian Motorsport as a good source for these.

Cheers

Snowy.

Had a qick look, doesn't seem to be a set of rules re: modifications anywhere. Or am I just a useless searcher?

I'm guessing mine, now that it has the RB25DET, would be classed as "modified".

Last year in our classes we set the rules for modified as:

changes to 2 or more of - turbo, fuel pump and injectors

or

semi-comp tyres

or

complete engine upgrade.

all other mods were free in "standard" class.

The 4 point harness from Meridian was around $400 from memory.

Just to clarify, this seems to be a Supp Regs thing, so whilst CAMS allow you to enter a Club Sprint with a non - FIA approved harness, or an expired harness provided it is installed correctly and in good condition...am i right in saying that we need as a min FIA approved 3" 4 point harnesses...and fastened in the correct manner?

Also, check that your build doesnt dictate that you need a 5 point harness. Read your manuals to see how the buckles should sit when you are strapped in, asincorrectly adjusted harnesses can be veruy dangerous in an accident.

Not hard to get right, but easy to get wrong :D

Is it worth trying to organize a group buy or a discount through a supplier since there will be so many members that will require harnesses before the first wrx day? Do the wrx club have anything organized? Just thought I might ask so it may save some of us a little money. It is a reasonable ask, just look at the times some of the cars are doing now and roll cages aren't required. One day a car will have a massive crash and if somebody gets really hurt it may put club racing out of many peoples reach due to insurance or over regulation. Just my thoughs. Worth the money! Can't put a price on your life.

This may be a stupid question, in relation to the harnesses, for new drivers if they are considering entering into a "Driver Training" section is the car required to have 2 harnesses fitter for driver and passenger? Or is Driver Training different and doesn’t require any harnesses??

I have a pair of Willians LD6 4/6-point harnesses fitted in the R34... FIA approved and expire in 2009 or something. they really keep you in your seat! But I'd also highly recommend a full bucket seat, soo much easier to concentrate on cornering when you dont have to hold on to the transmission tunnel with one hand to stop yourself from sliding around  The only downside is they are a prick to get in and out of....

gareth - i think meridan give a pretty decent price to us as its stands anyhow.

but im sure if a few of you get your a$$es into gear and walk in there asking for 5 or more sets you mighty be able to come to some agreement

Why?

you have a quick release, its no different to a seatbelt in terms of getting "out" of a car incase of an accident

Probablt easier to find IMO as if your upside down, the seatbelt buckle isnt that hard to find... and i speak from expirience ;)

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
    • Bloody apprentices! 🙄
    • Not sure yet.  Was considering speedtek because it was rated to 800hp, but when I did some research about him I don't think I will go for that🤣 So maybe giken gear set, but I'm afraid it won't be strong enough🙄
