R U SERIOUS???? Thats not full comprehensive though is it????

Wat did Just Cars quote u???

Reading through the whole post I can't believe the varied quotes people get... it's impossible to get a straight answer out of an Insurance company it seems.

Like someone will get a huge quote and then another person will ring up with the same details (car and history wise) and get a totally different quote... crazy stuff.

I actually did this with a friend once , we rang Just Cars and they quoted him $1700 for a stock R33 .. Rating 1 , no mods etc.. Then I rang them like 2 mins later, spoke to someone else and they quoted me $1300 for the same car with the same rating and the same postcode!.... what the!

Anyway I am with Just Cars after being with Young & Cool

With Yound & Cool I paid $2700, 24 yo rating 3 that was for an R33 GTSt II valued at 27k, and it had all these crazy claus like u cant park it anywhere after a certain time other than the house it is insured at, and you cant drive it to work etc... total B#$%@#$&!!

I then got pissed off with them and joined Just Cars as they were the cheapest @ $1900 for 24 yo rating 2 this time (as just got it back).. this is with FMIC , wheels, lowered, zorst, stereo.

Anyway now that I am 25 & in October I get my Rating 1 back I will try Famous & also Response once October hits... hopefully I will now get a cheaper quote.

When I spoke with Just Cars a few months ago to update details the guy goes "we dont have an age policy"... I was like wtf!, yeah as if a 18 yo will get the same insurance as a 30 yo.. what a twat!.... do these people get like common training when they get these jobs or its it just a case of "lets make the rules up as we go"!!

Never ceases to amaze really.

Anyway that is my rant/story.

Rob.

Who are response? Does any one know any contact details or a web address? Is it an insurance company or is it like prosperion where u have to lease the vehicle?

As soon as I saw young and cool's policy, I wasn't even interested in getting a quote. I'm with justcars now, but will probably move to famous when my current insurance expires.

Does anyone have any experience with making claims on a famous comprohensive policy?

famous classic car insurance have the same policy of having it only parked within 500m at night, dont know from exact time though.

i toild them i might need to take it to work,a nightshifter.and they said they will insure if it has an alarm of 3 point immobilizer in it,as long as its in the car park or is in someone else's driveway at night.

OK here is what I can get

Details:

>28 yo, not parked in garage, high(ish) risk suburb, only driver, rating 1, R32 GTSt (factory std)

Just cars: $1350 + about $2000 excess

Response: $1040 + $750 excess flat

Famous: $1040 (matched response's quote) + $1000+ excess.

Response be the winner be a fair margin.

They also say they will accept choice of repairer - this is full comprehensive insurance, no limit to kms per year, no other restrictions.

Maybe the lack of mods do help, I'm not sure.

I'm still currently with Just Cars - but when I actually get a chance I will be changing to Response quick smart.

Hope this info saves a few other people getting ripped by Just Cars.

To all the sceptics about Famous and their claims.

For reasons I'm not going to get into I had to make a claim just yesterday with Famous. They went out of their way to help me and were professional in every way.

My circumstances were unique, as ever case is, and required unorthadox measures to be taken. I did not want to put a claim through as the damage was minimal but they were helping me by writing a letter to the other party and gave me advice which no one else would or could have.

If they will help me without getting anything in return (ie no excess, no further action taken) then you can be certain they will honour your claim and give you attention if the situation arrises. Having said that I hope none of you will need to make a claim ever with any insurance company.

Have a good weekend everyone.

George

Iam very glad to hear that. Every time I speak with Robin or Olivia they are always very nice aand courteous over the phone. Thats good customer service and Iam glad I singed up with them.

Gotta say if I hadnt browse these and silvia forums I would have never heard of them.

Just wanted to share my experience with Famous.

Called them this morning and got a quote for a stock 1993 R33 GTS25t, 24 years old with 55% NCB in inner Sydney.

$2600 for 12 months. Best quote i've had, beat Just Cars by about $200.

Spoke to Robin, very helpful answering all my questions, sorted the whole thing out.

Edit: Also only 1 nominated driver, and i told them it was my daily driver + commuter. Damn good price.

Spoke to Famous today, they couldnt beat Just Cars quote of $1900 a year.. which is rather surprising.

Basically I was 24 , rating 2 , 1 accident (write off) when i took up my policy with Just Cars for that price.

Now im 25 , will be rating 1 in a few months and live out in the country , but they couldnt beat $1900... what the.

ps I live in SA.

    • Cheers. Skyline is back on the menu, can’t get rid of it. It’s like a child you don’t want, or herpes
    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
