PS3 is far from expensive when you look at what you get for the money. It's actually pretty good value. I mean it has a Blu-Ray player & they're going for $1500 - $2000 alone in Aust. I think $1000 is fine for a system which will give years of gaming & movie entertainment!

True True.. but who knows if Blue Ray will out beat HD DVD..

And I personaly agree with my customers that have all bar 1 said that its a damn expensive games system.. XBOX360 has Media center connection aswell offering everyone with a Home PC/ Media Center system the ability to hook it up.

But this is a PS3 thread so I wont go knocking it about that much .. hell they are not even out yet.

Prediction: Blu ray > HD DVD

Blue ray has higher specs (can do 1080p) vs HD DVD (1080i)

Blu ray has more hardwear & movie supporters

Blue ray 25gb per layer vs HD DVD 15GB per layer. Quad layer 100GB vs 60GB

Blu Ray FTW

Edited by geno8r

yes I think anyone that thinks HD-DVD will beat blu-ray out of the market has made a mistake. as genor8r pointed out.

PS3. 3.2ghz processor, 60gb hard drive. blue tooth wireless (including controllers, motion sensitive sixaxis controllers). 802.11 b and G wireless lan support. wired lan support. multi card readers (i found very handy). DVD player. Blu-ray player. FREE on-line play. built in power supply (no stupid arse maxi box to have hanging around). ability to run linux OS if you so choose. and of course full HD 1080p. is that enough? I think it's well worth the price. in fact I think we are getting ripped with the prices we pay for X360. dont get me wrong. the 360 is a great system too. i'm not a fan of their controllers though which is a big thing. in japan at least 360 only costs around $350 so it's not bad value over there...

I still rate the PS3 as value for money. even at $1K for 60gb.

Good points!

However..

XBOX 360 now has 1080P ( yep all you need to do is download the free patch )

The 360 is still packing 3 x 3.2GHZ cpus

The Micorsoft guys have been saying for several months now that either a HD DVD or BlueRay drive will be comming soon. ( external )

Microsoft have a little money behind them + a few games developers + the good old... ( Its extreemly easy to port from 360--> PC and from PC --> 360 )

For $99 you get a headset + 12 months gold LIVE subscription.. hell I'll keep paying for this the 360 online network is awesome. PS3 might be free but im yet to see if it is as good as the 360.

Keep in mind Im not arguing with any of you guys im just making points.

Infact Im heading off topic.

No doubt i'll get one one day.. LoL all this talk is making my want one!! HAHA!!

just had my ps3 ship today!

damn its heavy

total cost of shipping

8.2kg via ems = 12,900yen

Alpha the the xbox360 will have a HD DVD addon (this has been confirmed somewhere).

Ps3 online is free, and the download limit is 500megs unlike 360 which is only 50megs :D

I personaly only bought the ps3 for 3 reason: MGS4 and GT:5 and jap games

i have yet to see the xbox come up with any games which can match Kaido Battle or C1 Racing Battle which are on the ps2 :D

ps alpha you are just an xbox fanboy :D

yeah all good points to Alpha. I've played both, and the PS3 network play is awesome too. very easy to set-up and use, and no lag. very 'useable'. I'm not to sure on this download limit thing. I've downloaded a few things of PSN and pretty sure they would total over 500mb.

external drive doesn't do it for me though. no way would i want that. seems a bit of a waste when you already have one built in drive.

the 360 definately has some advantages though. and it's good to see they've upgraded to 1080p. it's a very good system, but in my eyes I think the PS3 is much more complete, and better engineered. also, it's whisper quiet, and even when I've been playing it for hours on 30deg sydney days it doesn't run hot at all.

glad you got your PS3 michael. :D I did mention before that package weight would be around 10kgs, and around $150 to post. which is one reason I carried mine on the plane (I also didn't want it knocked around in postage).

Ps3 online is free, and the download limit is 500megs unlike 360 which is only 50megs..

I dont understand this..

I have downloaded about 4GB worth of demos in the past 2 weeks on my 360..

Yep Im a 360 fan boy LoL

But I will sell you a PS3 when they come out!! LoL

The Software is updated all the time if you are connected online + it has the huge possitive of having the windows Media Center interface! Couldnt live without it.

I do look forward to the PS3 dropping in price however.. Going from feedback in my shop Ive found that many people are a bit upset about the price tag..

maybe i shouldve stated im waiting for decent ILLEGAL frimware. a.k.a. modchip...

i got my information from some xbox360 website maybe it was wrong hehe sorry :D

it's very hard to compare the graphics unless you are watching on a full HD 1080p TV. also games are still very new and I'd say none of the current titles really exploit the PS3s capability. The graphics when seen on a HD1080p TV make PS2 look like a SNES by comparison. They are a big step up from PS2 and certainly on par with X360.

when I first played one live on a 42inch Sony Bravia 1080p tv I was blown away by resistance.

well it's not going to be crap. even on a 480p standard def TV I notice a massive difference between my PS2 games, and PS3 BUT you are no where near taking advantage of it. That is one of the biggest leaps of PS3, 1080p. with a 480p TV most of that is lost. same will go for playing blu-ray discs etc and browing the net on a 480p TV is pretty lame. PS3 or not a good TV is worth having. At least a regular HD 768 TV, but if you can afford it a display with 1080p is awesome.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
