these rules have been in affect in qld for ages now

if its not that dirty its no hard to just wipe down with a damp rag- not perfect, but who wants perfectly clean paint anyway for daily driving

those foaming brushes cane the f**k out of your car i used one and 3 months later still had swirl marks

high preasure soap and high presure rinse is the way to go.

pitty it doesnt get out dints, a f**ked roof and winscreen =)

That brush leaves marks and scratches. Imagine some dirty 4wd being washed, leaving pebbles and mud inside the bristles, then you drive up and run that same brush on your car... Ive washed my brother's commodore there for ages and the paint now sucks... Also when you swing that brush around it can leave dents in your paint...

I think im gonna get those karcher things and use that... I heard they go for 90 bucks...

Use the car wash at night when there is no one about take your bucket sponge and chomos. Dont ever use the foaming brush!!

here's a simple trick. wash the brush out before you use it. just get the high pressure spray and give the brush a quick spray before you use it. and if you do get any tiny scratches, a cut and polish will get rid of most of them.

and gympie (home of qld's proposed mega dam) FTW. our dam is at 82%. we had water restrictions a few years ago (while noosa kept using our water without restrictions)

TIP: if your going to wash it at a car wash go there and put $1 in and rinse the car and fill up a bucket then grab sponge and wash ur car by hand (as you are allowed to do this only mon-frid) then put in another dollar and rinse of all the soap then give it a chamois..

those brushes leave scratch marks all over the paint, and within months you will notice your paint looks like rubbish.

lol - i did the whole bucket and chamoise thing during the day, then got to talking to another customer who said that he was told off when the guy saw him use the bucket and sponge....

its a stupid rule i reckon that we have to use that stupid brush - wonder if there are any other car washes that allow the use of sponge and bucket

As stated several times, this is a myth.

Common sense (and the notices around the car wash) tell you to rinse the brush prior to use... you have to assume that the person who used it before you filled it up with dirt and small stones.

If you're still not happy with that, use a laser wash.

$7~ and NOTHING touches the car.

Apparently you can use some "gerney" machine to wash your car at home... any details?

Worth a read, I would not recommend most of the "popular" brands, because they have plastic components in their motors, and need to be repaired so often that it's just not funny.

I have a water tank that basically, we struggle to keep room in!

When the rest of Australia runs out of water, we'll all come stay at your place.

Unfortunately water tanks aren't an option for a lot of people.

As odd as it sounds, local laws prohibit the use of water tanks in the city I live in.

You aren't allowed to take water from the sky, even if it falls on your property.

(Probably something to do with the council not being able to charge maximum $$ for sewerage disposal if they can't measure exactly how much water has passed through your property)

....and for the people who live in places which do permit water tanks, the tank water can only be used for washing vehicles if the tank is a stand alone system.

People who say they are just going to ignore the restrictions need a kick in the throat. Their there for a reason so that we can live. The next step should mass production of water recycling plants around Australia. As for the vote not to build a water recycling plant in Toowoomba or where ever it was, those towns people who voted no also need there heads kicked in, saying no just becuase you dont want to be the first to do it is the most rediculous excuse ever.

The restrictions are there for a reason so abide by them. If it means your car wont be washed every week then who cares no one needs there car washed every weekand a couple of buckets worth of water is plenty to do a good job. The question some people need to ask themselves is do you want a clean car or do you want water?

there really needs to be desalination plants built all around australia, as we cant keep relying on water restictions and the hope of rain to fix our water problem, desalination plants would be a good investment as our population grows we cant forever live on water restrictions, damn it, i want to be able to buy a pool and fill it.

I didn't think the stuff was any good, but after washing my whole car with it... i was extremely happy with the results!! It was as good as a polish!

There is this stuff that porsche owners use and basically all you need is a chamois and a bucket of water

Stuff wont ruin paint as it is organic (the guy who was selling it actually licked it to prove that it was non-toxic/organic)

It is a local cairns company, but the stuff does work.... I use it on my car (and it is black) and it comes up just awesome...

usually though it takes 2 buckets of water to finish ot properly.....

prices are $10 for a litre and $33 for 5 litres....

the guy who owns the company has a 2004 porsche turbo and he only ever uses this to wash his car.. and it always looks great.

Some people are such whingers. IMHO people should be allowed to wash their cars more than once every 2-3 months. Any more than that is just greedy.

This country is pretty much stuffed in terms of water.. Desalinisation might have to be part of the solution but it isnt a good one.

The desal plants use heaps of electricity, more electricity, more pollution, more greenhouse gasses, less rain, less water....

people just need to use less, queensland needs to stop farming rice and cotton, irrigated agriculture needs to be heavily reduced.

Apparently it takes 600 litres of water to make 1kg of rice in QLD.

Here in Vic 20% of our whole states water usage is farmers irrigating grass to grow cows on!! melbourne only uses 20% itself.

They make you pay 15 bucks for hand wash at my local car wash... f**k that.

Hoses cannot be used to wash cars at any time. Cars can only be washed using a bucket which is filled directly from a tap, high-pressure cleaning device or commercial car wash.
