SS8_Gohan
hey y'all just been reading a few threads, and the whole "service the car yourself, it's cheaper" thing seems to come up a fair bit. Personally, i'd love to know how to do the basics on my car and i would think others would do. So in the same vain as the Meguiars car care day, what do you guys'n'gals think of a 'learn how to service your car SAU Vic day'? I'm sure there are a multitude of people here he would know how, so i guess it's just requiring a bit of their time, a location, maybe a bbbq and possibly a vortex thoughts? cheers, chinny Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/139960-learn-how-to-diy-basic-service-day/ Share on other sites

Turn off. Check dip stick then wipe and re check. Make sure oil level is good. And your off. sammus
yeah it's an alright idea it's the little things that are important. using the example of the oil change above, which anyone can follow really... but what's left out is things like lubing the seal on filter, then not over tightening it. or even cranking the engine until the pressure light turns off until actually turning hte engine on. dezz
if it doesnt go ahead, check out the DIY section on here. some nice in depth tutorials on all the stuff you're after changing plugs, oil etc...with lots of little details that are common sense to some people but have other people stumped when the time comes Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/139960-learn-how-to-diy-basic-service-day/#findComment-2607585 Share on other sites
R31Nismoid
Yeah, he DIY section has some pretty full on stuff with extreme detail. I'd be happy to run a day, but we need a venue. Thats the hardest part... what workshop would want people working it out for themselves? Its thier bread and butter Plugs, oil filter, oil, afm clean, filter change are easy tasks once you do it once and see how easy it actually as. Its just time and having the right tools. 700HP-GTR33
DIY DAY....we all hire a hoist and buy lots of oil, and filters....in bulk. Every one drives their car in, the owner checks levels changes filter and oil . Held twice a year.....f$#k we would put the mechanics out of business. Alot would pay for the experience,I would....its fun and you get your hands dirty But what are we going to do with the old oil? Kaz200
agreed with what rrrage said... its the little things that count.. its the difference between a shoddy, cheap service at a local franchise and a more loving service at home.. so its not just the price at the end of the day. I'm sure its in the link James posted but there are plenty of tips around that take oil like the one in reservoir... cost = $0 Shame you don't live over this way, you could just come over here one weekend and give us a spare set of hands and we'll help you in return Besides which, when I'm too busy (or just cant be arsed!).. then I won't have to listen to Michael whinge about not having any company in the garage all day hehe Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/139960-learn-how-to-diy-basic-service-day/#findComment-2611103 Share on other sites
SS8_Gohan
maybe add a group buy on some good products? oils/filters/plugs? might not be big enough day to make any appreciable difference to price though...
