Just purchased my GT3071R

56 trim, 71mm compressor wheel

4inch compressor cover

T3 flanged with 0.71 exhaust a/r,

which mates up with the stock dump-pipe.

Cost me $1900 from Rotomaster in Melbourne

Would of cost me a further $100 for a GT30 style 0.63 ex-housing,

but would of cost a further $300 for a custom dump pipe.

Oil and water lines were custom made by HIS and cost me $330- all braided except oil drain pipe.

Some bango fitting from the stock unit were chopped and re-used.

BTW - Turbo needs a 10mm spacer between turbo and manifold,

as comp cover is quite large.

The compressor cover was hitting the manifold,

so I had to use a 10mm spacer and remove the four manifold bolts.

I replaced them with approx. 10mm longer ones

Below is a picture of the four bolts that had to be removed

and replaced with longer ones.

(4 bolts and nuts from Metric Man cost me $6)

The yellow rectangle highlights the section of the manifold

that comes into contact with the compressor cover.

Latter on i realised that it was not sitting flush with the manifold.

The heat shield had to be removed & the bottom right bolt had

to be threaded in 5mm deeper as i could not put the nut on it.

This is a picture of the set-up when I placed it on this morning at 4:30am

(Me and my mate were burning the midnight oil into the early hours of the day. :) )

ATM: Mods are:

Full 3inch exhaust

Apex FMIC (its quite small)

HKS GEN 3 EBC

BOSCH pump

HKS mushroom filter

It made 211.2rwkw on 12psi with a SAF-C

That looks like a big comp cover - no wonder you needed the spacer.

What is the origin of the turbine housing? 0.71 A/R with T3 flange seems a bit of an unknown.

Will be very interested to see how it goes for you. One of these should offer response and good power.

Any chance of a clear shot of the ID plate with numbers?

why the standard dump pipe? that will be hella restrictive!!!!!!

Just curious if this on a RB20 or 25.. I have purchased a GT30 with that .64 option above(have to look into the exact specs of it when i get it). Would be keen to compare if yours is on RB20, though mine wont be tuned till mid Janurary.

Are you planning on using camshafts at all cause Id also be curious to see what you choose. Cams are a unknown area to me and any advice I can get would be a bonus lol...

Its going on a RB25

Will probably put a set of 550cc injectors

The oil line comes out lower down and at the side of the block for mine ['98 rb25], did this change? Was it different for earlier models?

The photo shows the oil line coming from the back of the block?

Just curious........it could just be in the rotation of the housing etc

Pretty sure its the rotation.

On the photo the compressor and exhaust covers were not yet adjusted.

Im installing a Gt3071R as well. Certainly not a bolt on operation, just about finished though, should have it firing tonight

I know its a headache.

The next person that says to me the words 'bolt on' will lose his teeth.

Go to go know...back to thw garage. :dry:

Damn - some cool things going on with RB25s at the moment. I will watch with great interest at how the GT3071Rs go - I got >< close to going one, but decided a GT3076R in the end.

The RB25 dyno thread will be interesting watching soon!

    • That's not a transistor --- it's marked ZD1 which makes it a zener diode. As to what the breakdown voltage is, not enough there to divine.
    • Hi all, Long time since I've posted here. Looking for some advice on what I can remove to further identify the cause of my issues.  I can move the passenger seat forward and back but the knob used to adjust the seat angle is pretty much free spinning, there's very little resistance.  Removing the side cover I can see that the chain is intact but the shaft for the adjustment spins without the gear attached to it moving.  What's my next step for disassembly here? Is this a common fault? Just being a little cautious as I didn't want to start removing bolts for a spring to fly out or something equally as stupid.  Cheers
    • The incentives are mostly the same, yes. Ethanol is cheap compared to the cost of doing 98-100 RON with crude oil alone. 87 to 93-94 AKI all with E10. In 2020 Canada mandated E10 as a part of their "renewable fuel standard" and is supposedly going to go to E15 in 2030. In California where there are only 8 refineries with two threatening to shut down next year it's been over 20 years now of E10 and 91 AKI maximum because there's just not enough refinery capacity or crude oil supply relative to the demand for premium unleaded fuel. And CARB's low carbon fuel standard means functionally none of the diesel available at the pump is made from crude oil anymore. It's almost all entirely 20% biodiesel blended with 80% renewable diesel (hydrotreated vegetable oil) now. The number of gasoline vehicles that support E15 or higher ethanol concentrations is surprisingly low, I can't imagine it being wise to play tricks like this without flex fuel sensors in most of the fleet.
