R31 Nismoid, you're misunderstanding my question. I KNOW you can only have one intake mod (pods or FMIC).

My question was to Dogknight who said:

"Air pod - only okay if you dont have a front mount added on (GTR excepted)"

Why would the GTR be any different from any other car in terms of only having one intake mod?

StolenS15, I think that the exhaust is legal as apparently it was taken to Vicroads for an inspection and got passed a month ago.

To me, it sounds relatively quiet even when revving for some reason. Definitely quieter than a lot of the WRXs around. If it drove past, the noise wouldn't immediately make you think it's illegal. I guess time will tell.

*sigh* im not. Your misunderstanding what the letters on the screen are saying :)

He means the FMIC is OK on a GTR (the factory one) as thats how it comes from the factory.

SO PODS ARE OK if you have the STOCK INTERCOOLER

If your running the standard boost and the standard ECU no boost controler why should the gt35 turbo effect the epa test aslong as the emssions are ok the turbo should pass right ??

Seriously mate, can you ring the EPA and argue with them?

This is a help thread for users, not a thread to debate the rules.

If you wanna argue/debate the rules then take it up with the Gov't body concerned (in this case, EPA)

i heard a cat will decrease the db reading by 5 db but how much difference does it make on the emission reading? Dunno why EPA is so agro for aslong as it passes there emissions test shuldnt it be sweet?

I think you should read up on what exactly it is a catalytic converter does :)

for a quick fix chicken wire is ur best friend, fill the f*kn exzorst with it make sur its in tight as well, lol the look on the epa guys face when u blow out 3meters of chicken wire on the db machine will be funny..

ash can i have a front mount intercooler, an air box but also a top mounted 3540 on my gtr???

i think having 3 cats and 3 resonaters and 1 oval muffler will fix the problem on the old 3 inch... Also what i understand from the thread is that we can have wastegates aslong as they are internal and standard right?

As Ash mentioned. You can only have one additional air intake modification.

A GTR comes with a FMIC from the factory, so its legal to add pods and have the FMIC.

With a GTST it comes with a SMIC from the factory, so if you add a FMIC and Pods, you have two additional air intake mods.

But as always, read EPA guidelines and clarify with them. Lots of people drive cars that do not follow the guidelines. Do so at your own risk.

You cant change a GTR cooler from the factory one.

Just because the GTR comes with a FMIC stock, doesnt mean you can put another one in there.

Same as upgrading a R33 sidemount to a R34 sidemount. Its a change to the factory option

Thank you for the clarification. Word of mouth information always has to be taken with a grain of salt. Ill rectify my post.

Pretty sure I've read that you can change it...I don't have the exact wording handy, but it read something like:

An intercooler can be changed as long as the general position and dimensions are maintained...

having said that, you'd be quite stiff if you were done for a 34SMIC on a 33, or an aftermarket core on a GTR...

Read the EPA doco :(

"Intercoolers tha are larget than standard... are permitted only if no other changes to the intake system have been made. In other words, you may have a pod filter or modified/added intercooler, but not both"

I dont think it could be any more clear in all honesty :P

Well you change it aslong as it is a upgrade which is factory standard. e.g if u got a gtr intercooler you can change it to a v-spec intercooler as long as it retains the factory fittings to it i.e sensors etc

Dezz ur right dude, i got a large FMIC but got the standard airbox and meter as soon as they saw the air box he just closed the bonnet back :P

Well you dont need to have a pod on a GTS_T all you need is to modify the box and retain the meter thats what they what after all the meter as in original functioning way

This thread has shown an amazing inability by people to perform even the most basic reading comprehension. Bravo!

Oh and Larri you have alot of work ahead of you to get close to passing epa. It would prob be cheaper for you to buy a stock R33 in the same colour, order another rego sticker and change the plates over for a day.

Well actually im just going to sell my engine in bits and pieces and just put back in the good old rb25 :P BUT i just been reading the epa article no where does it say you cannt put in a rb26 as long as it meets the same or more stringent requirements.

s_15 LOL who said that it would cost you that much... Do`nt know who charges you that much for a quick engine swap and a reswap later on. Hopefully you been saving alot if they are charging you this much.

i got 89.7 db backing off in the big rb26/30 woohooo thanks for your experience and information guys much appreciated. well i just put 2 cats in and 2 resonators and a big oval at DA back :D was sweetly done

    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
