Well i have just done a full tank driving like a total grandma, no boost over .8 of a bar and i got close to 470kms to the tank. Really not very good but in retrospect not that bad, then again whats the point in having an RB26 if you don't let it spoooool up a few times a tank :D

Will definetly have to see how things go with an aftermarket ECU.

Cheers all

*shakes fist * damn you !

so your saying that with a rb26dett your getting BETTER fuel econ than most 25DET's?

Definitely better than the 25DET I had in it before. Was lucky to get 450km to a tank of casual driving on the open road. Even after I converted it to manual it wasn't really any better (but that could have been my right foot :laughing-smiley-014: )

I honestly believe that if I drove a full tank nicely I could get 525 - 550km's. Watch this space :)

hi peoples, we just bought our first stagea a week ago S2 RS4. absolutely love the car and the way it drives. but very poor fuel economy bout 300 on full tank of bp ultimate... ouch! have noticed the engine light has come on twice now and goes away after i shut it down and restart.

we have serviced it,including fuel filter, and cleaned AFM and throttle body.

will be changing O2 sensor and coolant temp sensor this weekend. hopefully. providing i can get the parts.

any other suggestions?

thats way to much fuel( unless your really fanging it), something seems wrong, how does the car run? yes you have to check everything hopefully 02 might help, check or change plugs, std and running well and driven conservatively you should get somewhere between 450-500 km per tank, a good exhaust plus front/dump will also help with economy plus the usual mods safc etc (your cat might be a problem also, not your pussy),

goodluck and enjoy and i'm sure many of the knowledgeable members will help you out with any issues.

your economy is better than a normal stock s1 :P

i got 370km to 3/4 of a tank on the week end, not babying it.

I have been through that problem - thats a whole new thread here - but to cut a long story short, we had all the coils replaced which cured our problem. Tons of information on these pages.

BTW.

My car averages 9.6L/100km at open road cruising. For a 68L tank that calculates at an optimistic 700km/tank , but I often get over 650km per tank.

650km per tank wtf. i get around 450 in mine which is stock, but thats with me opening it up here n there.

...and that is with a boot loaded to the top of the seats. Like everyone, I still open it up now and then!

BTW. This is a non-turboed RWD 25RS.

Was getting average of 14.5-15L/100km before getting a hi flow cat and cat back. Since I've had that done I'm getting 13-13.5L/100km. Looking and replacing front/dump pipe as well so that should hopefully drop it to 12/13L/100km which I would be happy about. 100% Bp Ultimate and City driving with a bit of boosting on the weekends. running 9psi with a hi flow panel filter as well as the only other mods.

mine does well under 12/100 with the girlfriend driving it no matter where she drives it or how many people are in it . i get about 14/15per100 but i drive it "properly" RS fourS with fmic de cat , cat back and only run on BP ultimate 98

got O2 sensor and coolant sensor today.replaced both so will see how it goes. the car runs fine, almost perfect except for a slightly high idle ( bout 950-1000). car is driven conservatively every day with no spirited driving done by the mrs...

I struck gold today (was at nissan buying parts) and caught up with an old friend working as mechanic at nissan so i organised to get the fault codes checked on the weekend. FREE. how good is that!

also does upgrading the exhaust system really make a big difference? only ask cause we prefer to leave it standard and use it as a family wagon. we may consider exhaust if it is quiet.

what do you mean by safc? fuel only controller or replacement power fc?

There are quite a few options if you want the quiet note. Mine is used by the mrs all week so I definitely wanted one that was quiet, which is easily doable. Performance increase and economy improvement so no brainer really. Just wished I did mine sooner!

Replacing the exhaust plus low impedance replacement filter in your standard airbox (such as Pipercross PX- PP1128) will make a big difference - more efficient so more power if you boot it or more economy if you don't - but from front pipe through gutted cat (or more efficient high flow cat) to quiet muffler it won't be cheap. If you get an Apexi SAFC you will be able to tune your air/fuel ratios and then you should get an Apexi SITC to allow you to adjust the timing across the rev range (get it tuned on a dyno). A good quality fuel pump and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator would help to ensure an adequate fuel supply. The usual economy tips: keep your tyre pressures up, don't carry any unnecessary junk around in the car and as stated elsewhere clean/check your coils and check your spark plug condition/gaps.

just did first real out of town driving .( ch ch to timaru and back ) was bang on half way between 3/4 and full marks on gauge . when i left . did 120km/h all the way down there and passed everything i could find . came back in the evening and did the same (with G/F driving ) including finding the speed limiter ( about 190 if gauge went that far)because i had not found it yet . and when i got home the gauge was bang on 1/4 . and the trip meter said 420 kays . since resetting it that morning . pretty stoked with that . oh car had 4 people in it and all my moto-x gear and lunch and shit . was runnin BP98

just a little update on our 'LEMON' stagea. found out the timing has been fidled with, was 10 degrees retarded adjusted it to full advance and just made it to spec. looks like timing belt out 1 tooth.FAAARK!

and just the other day engine started to missfire after start up and found a coil pack to be the problem. :P $$$...

 and just when it was looking good with the fuel economy!

Does anybody know where to get aftermarket parts in sydney or on the net?

    • Have a look at that (shitty) pic I posted. You can see AN -4 braided line coming to a -4 to 1/8 BSPT adapter, into a 1/8 BSPT T piece. The Haltech pressure sender is screwed into the long arm of the sender and factory sender (pre your pic) into the T side. You can also see the cable tie holding the whole contraption in place. Is it better than mounting the sender direct to your engine fitting......yes because it removes that vibration as the engine revs out 50 times every lap and that factory sender is pretty big. Is it necessary for you......well I've got no idea, I just don't like something important failing twice so over-engineer it to the moon!
    • Yup. You can get creative and make a sort of "bracket" with cable ties. Put 2 around the sender with a third passing underneath them strapped down against the sender. Then that third one is able to be passed through some hole at right angles to the orientation of the sender. Or some variation on the theme. Yes.... ummm, with caveats? I mean, the sender is BSP and you would likely have AN stuff on the hose, so yes, there would be the adapter you mention. But the block end will either be 1/8 NPT if that thread is still OK in there, or you can drill and tap it out to 1/4 BSP or NPT and use appropriate adapter there. As it stands, your mention of 1/8 BSPT male seems... wrong for the 1/8 NPT female it has to go into. The hose will be better, because even with the bush, the mass of the sender will be "hanging" off a hard threaded connection and will add some stress/strain to that. It might fail in the future. The hose eliminates almost all such risk - but adds in several more threaded connections to leak from! It really should be tapered, but it looks very long in that photo with no taper visible. If you have it in hand you should be able to see if it tapered or not. There technically is no possibility of a mechanical seal with a parallel male in a parallel female, so it is hard to believe that it is parallel male, but weirder things have happened. Maybe it's meant to seat on some surface when screwed in on the original installation? Anyway, at that thread size, parallel in parallel, with tape and goop, will seal just fine.
    • How do you propose I cable tie this: To something securely? Is it really just a case of finding a couple of holes and ziptying it there so it never goes flying or starts dangling around, more or less? Then run a 1/8 BSP Female to [hose adapter of choice?/AN?] and then the opposing fitting at the bush-into-oil-block end? being the hose-into-realistically likely a 1/8 BSPT male) Is this going to provide any real benefit over using a stainless/steel 1/4 to 1/8 BSPT reducing bush? I am making the assumption the OEM sender is BSPT not BSPP/BSP
    • I fashioned a ramp out of a couple of pieces of 140x35 lumber, to get the bumper up slightly, and then one of these is what I use
    • I wouldn't worry about dissimilar metal corrosion, should you just buy/make a steel replacement. There will be thread tape and sealant compound between the metals. The few little spots where they touch each other will be deep inside the joint, unable to get wet. And the alloy block is much much larger than a small steel fitting, so there is plenty of "sacrificial" capacity there. Any bush you put in there will be dissimilar anyway. Either steel or brass. Maybe stainless. All of them are different to the other parts in the chain. But what I said above still applies.
