Marko R1
You'll need a HKS box as well. i never really thought about that - are you referring to the ignition box? how much are they approx? Kujotk
is that same as ones also suitable for r34 gtr unit? the box says so Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/187108-jjr-coil-packs-vs-oem-vs-splitfire-vs-other/page/13/#findComment-5148966 Share on other sites
Piggaz
$560 for the box $95 for the harness Both delivered from Nengun. I have one in my car man. Seems to work a treat. Would be a good idea to upgrade but its like changing the stock bov's on a gtr, no required. If my ignition wasn't up for the task my tuner would have told me from the onset. I'm only running 405awkw maybe when pushing monstrous power this mod is needed on the gtr Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/187108-jjr-coil-packs-vs-oem-vs-splitfire-vs-other/page/13/#findComment-5152852 Share on other sites
elrodeo666
i never really thought about that - are you referring to the ignition box?how much are they approx? Marko I run the HKS Twin Power amplifier and was running Splitfires with no drama until new engine dropped in. I was always happy with the Splitfires performance. We ran 2 new sets tuning the new engine and always at around 8200rpm we started getting misfire so went back to standard and sweet as. Engines putting out around the 450kw mark and still has to have final power check. The Jap guys reckon the Splitfires are a great performance upgrade but when starting to push over 600ps upwards they tend to misfire. The HKS guys were always umming and aahing when I chose Splitfires over the standard coils. I'm not knocking them as they are a great product but they have their limitations. Most big power engines/race engine in Japan are using standard coil packs or the Okada Project Plasma Directs http://www.okadaprojects.com/usa/products_direct.htm Either one new will rip a new hole where the sun dont shine ! Marko R1
i wondered about the Okada Project Plasma Directs as i saw them on rhdjapan website when i ordered my splitfires BUT the price was 3 times that of the splitfires @ $1450 for the set...anyway, my tuner recommended splitfires so i stuck with them liek u say as well - any new coil pack will be better than 20year old factory coils! Piggaz
Ah so you ended up going the splitfires. Be interesting to see the results. Mine def feels more lively with the new OEM coils and coil pack harness in her. The Splitfires are a great coil pack but talking to alot of tuners in Japan they find they have limits with big power applications. My old OEM's were sweet as where the Splitfires were misfiring. Ended up getting a new set at a good discount through friend at Nissan, still hurt the pocket and thats why I bought the Splitfires in the first place. The Okada's ..well love to get them but the price tag is a bit too much on the ouch side. Agreed, any of the big HP RB's we have had through had the same issues, chuck in a set of new OEM coil packs and a HKS twin power and the sky was the limit. dirty180driftor
Rewire your coilpacks straight to battery with a relay and ignition onto the old wiring with an inline fuse should stop a lot of the "coilpack melting" episodes people seem to be having Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/187108-jjr-coil-packs-vs-oem-vs-splitfire-vs-other/page/13/#findComment-5160393 Share on other sites

da spike
Bought JJR coilpacks for a R33 S2 and they were never right but now are misfirring badly at high boost and guess what? It has been about 15 months after purchase so now im fooked... Should I try to gap the plugs to 0.7mm? I currently have BCPR7ES gapped to 0.8mm and its missfiring under high boost. These coilpacks are pieces of shit seriously! Duncan
why don't you call the guys you bought the pieces of shit of and talk to them before slagging them off. Have you tried any other coils? Do you know coils are even you problem? They obviously are not the fix to every single missfire problem Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/187108-jjr-coil-packs-vs-oem-vs-splitfire-vs-other/page/13/#findComment-5161768 Share on other sites

Gunnar_11
had my yellow jackets for over 5000kms, 2 track days and a motorkhana. pulled them out the other day for inspection and no signs of wear at all, still going very strong That's great Anyone else have sustained track-work experiences for Yellow Jackets??? GTRsean
A few years back I started to get a miss at 4500-5000rpm on acceleration (peak torque). Pulled out the stock coils and cleaned em, then wrapped em with self amalgamating tape, checked plugs, still missed so old coil had had it. Bought splitfires from just jap, put em in, no more missfire, no problem at all since and that was like over 4 years ago! Run up to around 470hp at the treads and no probs. Yellow jackets look like a good replacement from what you guys have experienced though.
