Hey guys, looking for some donations in the form of old unused stock GTS-T dump pipes. Need 2 (obviously), promise to hack and beat them until they are even uglier than they were from factory. Want to try and modify them to fit, or at the very least cut them off at the knees to use as flanges.

Mark, they are cast steel. You can’t weld them or really change them that much just buy some turbine flanges and a 3" 90 deg mandrel bend and have fun. I can post up a pick of a simple one that you can copy if you need some inspiration.

Cheers,

Ryan

Ryan,,,good to see you in here mate,,,you have to be very careful telling Mark something can't be done. The man will find a way to do anything. You can actually weld cast but the object has to totally glowing red if my tech days memories are right.

Mark,,,wifey's gtst has after market dump so I'll donate one.

Steve-o I could start laughing about now,,,but that wouldn't be nice. So I'll give you a word of advice,,,It doesn't matter who builts it or fixes it something will break sooner than later. I'm just waiting for my turn at the moment. Touch wood (my bloody head) I get through this season.

Neil.

Ryan, you may be right. You can weld to cast, but it's a pain in the ass. Have to heat the hell out of the cast or you'll blow big holes in the pipe trying to get it to weld to the cast. More importantly, I realised that since the turbos are external wastegate, we don't need the whole thing open, just a round opening around the turbine. Given the external wastegate and the fact that it's a pair, 2 inch should do it. Just got to figure out how to get 3x 2 " pipes down the back of the engine and out the side ...

I cut the standard dump pipe off on a previous R32 Gtst of mine.....made a dump pipe for it and welded it on without heating the original "flange". Surprisingly it did not crack, even after 6 or 7 sprints. I then sold the car and the current owner hasn't had an issue with any cracking even after 3 years. I'm very surprised :D was expecting it to have cracked by now.

mark what china turbos ya running

me can get cheap cheap dumps for some of them

fatz,

good to hear from you.

Need to block the little hole next to the turbine exhaust. They are external wastegate and I guess this hole is common to the internal and external gate casting. The correct flanges have a plate and just a hole big enough for the exhaust turbine.

i think a guy next door to my work is putting one of them onto his 3cyl cherade.. hopefully not that big tho.

That I'd like to see. Would probably spool up about 1 millisecond before the piston (one of the 3) comes flying out the block and lands in his lap!

Any updates to the alloy door trims + replacement windows?

I bought a couple of sheets of 2400x1200x1.6mm alloy today and a new bosch jigsaw and plan to figure this out over the next few days. I want to retain the factory handle locking mechanism, remove excess bracing then mold it at the top so it sits flush with the replacement windows.

yeah kind of but no real progress. Need to paint the cage and interior next step.

re windows we have a source that has moulds for side and rear gtr windows, and who can get 4mm lexen cheap. thanks source. But in our case we will probably have to build window frames to hold the window because we removed lots. the lexen moulds assume the standard electric winders are kept.

re the ally sheet on the doors, it can come up a fair way but can't really meet the standard window where the trim normally sits, it curves pretty tightly and that will be tricky.

at this stage it looks like we will be going ally headlights/intake as well. probably still a while away but the design is pretty good.

BTW jigsaw is a bastard to cut the ally with. you will need very fine tooth blade, take it slowly and clamp it down hard. the ally likes to vibrate with the blade instead of getting cut. We used tin snips but nibbler would be even better.

BTW does anyone have a better option than a $100 ebay surge tank? Chris, can you make one up cheaper? Any problems with any particular design, they seem pretty simple.

fuel cell is on its way

Ben, bring me your sheet and I'll guillotine it at my friends place. I can use the same template as ours. Jigsaw job just won't finish well. Otherwise, get a nibbler, it does a pretty good job, but it's hard to do really straight lines without a guide.

Did it come with the straps?

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
