Hey all, I recently went away with my GF, thankfully we took her car because i was amazed to find that servos in country towns don't sell 98 octane fuel..

Were looking to go away in my skyline ( R33 RB25DET ) next time but the problem i have is, How am i going to get 98 octane fuel if places don't sell it, I found the lowest they had was 95% octane, So what are the choice's i have? Bring alot of jery cans lol or use 95% octane and just add half a bottle of octane booster to the tank? ( or how ever much you need )

Thanks, Russ.

Nah, i have a PowerFC and a bunch of other things lol, Running 13psi also..

in that case HELL NO, only as a last resort should u go 95ron if 98 isnt available.

for someone who seems to have good stuff on their car and put in all that work, u seem to be willing to throw it away on suspect fuel.

just when 95ron is in there, take it easy eh

Mate you think that you have a problem.

I run my GTR on V Power Racing that in NSW you can only buy in Sydney and Canberra so whenever I go anywhere else I carry an extra 50 litres of fuel in the boot so I can get home.

This is a bit of a pain but it is tuned to run on 100 RON and has performance to match - the things people do.

It will be fine if you limp it; run it near empty then push a tank of 98 in to it.

Don't even think about giving it a little hit.

Once tuned mine would ping its arse with 1/4 throttle bringing it up on boost in an attempt to slow overtake..

Be carefull of those ring lands.

stock car?

look under your bonnet mate.

recommended fuel is 95RON min.

95 is fine if its still got stock ecu etc.

Can anyone confirm this? I thought 98RON was the recommended fuel, NOT 95.

I drive a stock R34 that only has aftermarket exhaust and pod. I have only ever used 98 fuel, but are you saying I could now switch to 95?

you mean shell v power???? r33's are recommended for 95 ron or higher, no it doesn't matter if you mix them, but you don't get the full benefit of 98 ron fuel.... also if your worried about the 95 ron jsut don't give our car a hard time

nah not shell V power. I thought it was Shell V power. but it was Shell Premium unleaded.

And now my car is making a weird noise. like grindin ish and goes away and come back. engine shakes a little. just after i filled up.

its coming from the front of the engine near the fan.

Yeah wont give it a hard time. will just go put 98 in and mix it in a few mins.

Hope all the shitty noises are coz of the fuel.

Yeah, can anyone confirm? I thought it was 98 as well (well best we got here anyway...) & on the inside of the little door that leads to the petrol tank, I got a green sticker that says "some jap words" & 100, I think that its saying recommand RON 100?

I wouldnt put anything less then 98 in mine, and havent done so since i got it. Japanese fuel is higher octane then australian fuel generally so id exect the minimum to be 98

I know people that have run there fairly stock skylines on 95 but it isnt terribly safe.

id buy some octane booster to put in with every tank, peace of mind for an extra $10-$20 a tank really...

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
