Well done anyway Snowy sounds like you know what your doing with the tiller and carrying four leaf clovers. Hope the repair bill isn't too serious.

Kinda glad we didn't make it down for this years carnage would be frustrating forking out so much to deal with slippery roads.

The snowie thing is a joke, esp considering that dad's car has plenty of illigal peformance increasing bits on it. Yes the rules were broken, but if your going to enforce them, you should be consistant.

the 999 rules need a rework, but if you new how to use them it shows you've gone to the effort to read the regs.

also the timing was rubbish this year, so many stage time errors. i don't know why they took the timing beacons out of the cars.

98% of the carnage was avoidable.... and if you are waiting for a dry targa where the roads are not slippery, lash out on some extra goodies cos you'll save heaps - about 1:15 all dry events.

Yeah I woulda done it anyway if the car was ready :) Looking forward to high country - was so bloody happy to hear about that one.

So if its a case of being like the RX-8 and have to build at least, 10 was it? I would liek to know who owns the other 9? Or is a matter of producing a bit of paperwork showing that you have built and sold 9 to people, complete with fictional orders, receipts etc....which of course dont match what the ATO see :)

Meh, im just bored and a witch hunt is so much more fun the reviewing Batch Records at work :)

You could enter a say a "Racepace R34 GTR 5 speed"? - surely they have chucked more than 10 5-speeds in various 34's.

Anyway - im glad the rules have relaxed a bit since the CAMS days as a 2.5" or whatever exhaust would have been a buzz kill - but maybe a little too much?

Mines have made a bunch of customer cars. They also sold 2 of their own ones.

Snowys car is probably just as good, but with a better price tag :)

Maybe a "Racepace Special" could be entered, there's enough Racepace customers out there haha

Hate to disagree with you Ben but the timing this year was the best yet

We only had one mistake of a minute which was quickly fixed

This was caused by human error not the system

Jeff

Nah, forget Racepace GTRs, all GTR owners are tattle tales. :) I am waiting for Two Bens Racing to build a spare GTSt for me so we can go one make racing :)

Well within all the shit talk i was offered a drive in a GTS-t last night pending what pans out over then next year. all shit talk but how about 3 GTS-t on the podium?

And as Bens said prior. 30K and we will build you a tarmac special.

the car i serviced for had at least 3 timing errors and they had to work their balls off to get the time back. That was due to human error each time.

but ive got no idea what its usualy like so im only pointing out this years errors.

The fun keeps on rolling!

It seems Mr Thatcher decided to protest the fact I was running a standard R33 GTR gearbox and so I have been disqualified. I honestly thought it was legal (since I understood you can run anything Nissan on your car under AASA rules) but apparently you can only legally run a standard R34 6 Speed or one with a PPG/OS Gieken dog set - but not a standard Nissan Gearbox.

So since I had such a HUGE performance advantage and that little bitter man running a 2.8L bigger turbo GT-R "special" got his ass handed to him by me he arranged for me to be DQ'd. He tried to drum up support with about 20 other people who poloitely told him to GAGF'd, and he fact that the next 5 cars all had actual performance enhancing illegal mods seems to be irrelvant however since he knows them quite well.

The good news is Stu told me to keep the trophies because as far as he was concerned (and pretty much everyone we spoke to that night at the afterparty as well) we won and most importantly the little man still isn't on the podium.

hmm that is a sad way for it to end, especially considering you drove so well. And it must have been a hell of a rollercoaster with the off along the way.

No point in blaming anyone else though, you read the rules (or should have), turned up with an illegal car, got caught and got disqualified. You are the only one responsible for this.

Hopefully you will be back next year with a car without any issues, and finish up the pointy end again.

BTW I'm surprised by the attitude from a lot of people in these recent posts - so here's a poll so this thread can stay on topic(ish) http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Mo...ll-t319141.html

I think the issues with the 999 rule and the short run cars being accepted is a much bigger problem for this event. Both are rules, but they are still bullshit.

End of the day it is the other competitors right as unfortunate as it is.

I guess people just wouldnt normally expect to be pulled up for something like a gearbox - I personally think a 34 box might have been quicker. We found the 5 speed was a bit slow to get going in the tight stuff with standard diff ratios.

Biggest pity is most of the cars there would probably get disqualified under scruitiny.... surely there were a few 32's getting around with 4wd controllers given the weather.

This year was my 2nd as crew.,,,what a difference from 2007. Lets start with scrutineering,,,what rubbish. Mark was gone for about 10 minutes,,,when he came back so soon I'm thinking shit whats wrong,,,do I have to change stuff,,,NO it's all okay. All they did was a simple safety check,,,no tyres marked,,,go buy some kitty litter and thats it. Over 85 cars tyres were not done till tuesday,,,I wonder how many spares were not done.

I was shocked at some of the mods that are now allowed. Surely a 120mm thick intercooler,,,massive exhaust diameters,,,hybrid turbos,,,oversize wheels and stuff that I spotted has really turned Targa into a joke. I can remember cams questioning which R32 N1 rear spoiler was the correct one for christ sakes.

Pedal boxes,,,brake bias,,,external fuel surge tanks with massive pumps,,,aftermarket bonnets/boots,,,massive big brake combo's and the list just goes on and on.

This is not in the spirit of Targa and it has to stop before they allow full floor sports sedans to enter.

Don't start me on the rx8,,,for the un-educated this car was Aussie built and I would challenge Mazda to come up with 10 cars.

That enough bitching for now.

Congrats to Mrs Handley,,,I know you Vics don't like what happened but thats Motor racing. In my eyes chicky babes won.

Neil.

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
