Confuses me why they wouldn't base it on the Ten (X).

By most accounts, the X is a better "thing".

ben thats interesting,

a few opinions that ive heard from evo owners is that the VIII/IX is the better "thing". not that i know anything about them, just out of curiousity, on what accounts do you think the X is better?

Well, talking to Steve Glenney at the Emo Nats over the weekend, we raised the same point.

I indicated that I would buy a nine, he said I was mad and the ten is twice the car, it's just not publically known yet.

The ten he ran in improved Proddy was over a second a lap quicker than the much more modified nine on the same day, same rubber.

He went on to list better torque, larger power "band", much wider track, minimal weight increase.... in his words, "the list goes on, and don't tell anyone".

lol

Rod Salmon says the same thing. Before his now infamous crash he told me his Showroom spec X was a full 1s / lap faster than his previous M2 Modern EVO 9 at Broadford - which is just a little track. But he has gone on to prove it's worth at the Bathurst 12hr for a number of years now.

ahhh fair enough,

i think it probably has a lot to do with aftermarket tunability available atm for the X. from the guys i have talked to that seemed to be the general concensus that there wasnt a whole heaps of easy options to make it go faster.

that didnt happen to be you in the black r34 gtr on saturday afternoon did it ben? i dropped by for a quick look probably around the last session of the afternoon and saw a black R34 gtr leaving around the time of the photos.

I can only guess its because they already had one. That EMO has been around for years - Steve used to race it in the Dutton series and all of the W.A. speed series stuff.

He did the Busso round of the Speed Event Series in it and belted everyone.

yep I thought the 8/9 was the pick too but I have heard from the smart people that the X is miles ahead. makes sense to me. glenney would know too he has driven enough emo to know which is the better base car.

they are stupid quick with just basic mods.

I heard on the grape vine today that a Western Australian father of a former Joker is planning on building a number of homologated super EMO's with stroked engines, carbon fibre everything and sequential gearboxes to run at Targa 2011 with his #1 driver moving from the R35 to the new car.

Apparently you can have one for a cool $250K (or less if you provide your own "donar" car).

I really need to get onto this Racepace GT-R concept before this window gets closed!

hahah spoke to soon. and the raceworx rb34dettrr gtr is out the window as well. thank god!

good to see e85 is no longer restricted to 1 supplier (anyone's is fine, hello 92c/l race fuel!)

sadly the corner cutting rule still talks about "predetermined" corners only.

good work....tighten them even more next time to keep the cost down!

still a PITA for me because the CAMS production car rules and aasa tarmac rally rules keep moving further apart.

The 2 big ones for us are 3.5" exhausts and upper control arms are now ok.

It's hard to fully understand the special vehicles rules. Does it mean Whtey will have to undo his 200K upgrade and go back to a manual gearbox? The type R was just as fictional as the Super Alphabet.

I'm pretty sure the ATTK'D GTR is cactus - but not sure where the 400R/Z Tune stands under the regs.

Are the Skelta's road registerable in Oz to pass the local 10 car rule? But we can def see the rule to permit the RX8SP - which I'm ok with as Mazda do help support the events.

Oh - and I love the changes to the Showroom Class. I can see it really taking off now that 4WD cars are out and the limit raised to $100K .

Madza 3 v MX5 v 370Z v XR6T x HSV GTS v BMW 135i v Audi TT v Lotus Elise v VW GTI. I'm sure there is more decent options.

Sounds a lot more interesting than EVO v EVO v EVO v EVO......

I think YT's super alfabet is more legit than the type-r, cause if you type in into google you get heaps of info on them, type r is just a Aus paper model.

I don't see why the Z-Tune and 400R would be out, I thought there would have been enough of them made.

Nissan need to put a factory team together to take on the mazdabaters in showroom.

Well these are the rules right. So this is why I'm not sure how the 400R/Z Tune fits.

• An Australian based manufacturer who produces a minimum of ten identical vehicles sold and fully registered in Australia.

Def not in this one.

• A multi-national manufacturer who produces a minimum of 200 identical vehicles sold and fully registered worldwide.

They didn't make 200x 400R's, and they only made 20x Z Tunes - but then they didn't make 200 N1's either. But is it ok if they make 200+ R33's and R34's? The other question here is IS NISMO considered to be Nissan?

• A manufacturer who produces and sells a minimum of 10,000 cars worldwide in a given year can apply to enter a promotional/concept model

provided three identical vehicles are manufactured.

Possibly ok under these rules but would Nissan/Nismo need to be the entrant rather than say me?

The following vehicle types will not be granted entry:

• Vehicles made by one manufacturer and then modified and re-tuned and released as a derivative of the original car under another name are not

permitted.

Technically isn't this what the 400R / Z-Tune are?

    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way. Simples
