I have to be honest, even if we take as gospel that the ecu is great and miles ahead of others in it's price bracket they need to do a bit more work on the marketing side. for starters the name needs works? Vi-PEC? bit awkward. doesn't sound cool like POWER FC. or F-con PRO, or MOTEC. anything with the words, pro or power etc go down well... lol. and the ecu itself and the packaging looks a bit old. like it was made in the 80s or early 90s. I mean even a power FC looks cooler with its plain, shiny silver case, motec and fcons with nice gold box. this looks a bit weird with the blue and silver and chrome lettering. even the font looks old. it just doesn't look nice.

btw, just trying to add some constructive criticism. and the good news is that cosmetic stuff is easy to change/update/fix. because even if the product is awesome, a lot of people who modify cars still want the cool factor, and when spending $2500 on something they want it to look nice too, even if the looks have absolutely zero to do with the performance.

If you have a 14 year old daughter like i do...you will know that 80's-early 90's is in...in a big way.

Vi-PEC...no more awkward than MoTeC.

I don't give a toss what it looks like...its hides behind the kick panel anyway...performance and features are more what i look for in a product. A catchy name and a shiny box with Japlish stickers included are low on my list...the boy racers who are influenced by these things are probably not the target market anyway...serious racers and modifiers are more the market they are cornering....i.e. the high end market just like MoTeC with the M800

yeah don't get me wrong, of course smart people will buy the best product regardless of what it looks like since the only time you look at the ECU is when you buy it. after that it's hidden. but there are plenty of people who will place stock in what looks better and judge off that. I'm not saying they are in any way smart, but their money spends the same as the next blokes...

i do agree though...now ive had a good look at it ...if it was my product...id be calling the final design team into my office to hand them their notices...

but its something i didn't and don't really consider when selecting it or any other products.

the silver box is good id keep that but i doubt you could use any colour than blue with it...maybe Ford "shockwave" blue would have been a bit more striking (same as my rocker covers) and the matt packaging would look better in a high gloss.

What is your opinion on the new Link G4 Storm. It looks like a great ECU at a good price yet no one seems to have really run one yet.

Ive got a G3 getting tuned in my car at present. Will be interesting to see it runs in comparison to my old PFC.

I reckon you're all full of shit. More money is spent on rolling turd products in glitter to appeal to the ricers of this world than developing quality products. Leave the packaging for the $10 bleed valves and $400 Jap-Remaps and the serious money for ECU development.

Agree 100%!

Dirt: Have you looked at the Adaptronic?

The guy who runs that company, didn't just "get someone to make a board to specification" he did it all himself.

Now he has 2 (might be 3 now) guys working for him as well, building another bigger better board.

At a cheaper price then the ViPEC, it runs dual maps (Changeable at flick of a switch) Launch Control, Traction Control, Flat shift, all those nice nifty little features you're looking for, at an even lower price then the ViPEC.

The only issue you'd have on the GTR, is it isn't plug in, it's wire in, but for R33 GTS-t, it is a plug in affair.

Things like auto tune, the ability to register knock AND take action on it, it can give an indication when tuning as to if more timing will increase torque or not.

Cold start tuning, boost control.

Wondering why you never bothered to try it?

Does the guy who runs ViPEC understand the code behind how it runs, or did he pay someone else for that as well?

I, and everyone else who's dealt with Adaptronic, to have the best technical support around, with the guys know the board, the sensor setup, and how the code works to sort out issues.

Just wondering if you'd tried them before or not?

i also make turd products but not into rolling it in glitter. you can however have some of my left over 'base stock' which is production ready? :)

i'm a ricer. i like shiny things and rainbows and vtec and fwd. so help me god, I do.

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
