So There I Was Driving An R35 Gt-r....

Recommended Posts

Yes, there I was driving an R35 GT-R all last weekend at the Oran Park V8 supertaxis, mostly around the pits, but I got 1 lap of the gp circuit.

Aaaanyway, spotted a young gent by the name of Dan, who, apparently, has something to do with this site.

So he's now had a drive too.

Nissan Australia loaned it to the Nissan Historic Race Team for a bit of solidarity, we had a few Gibson cars competing there in the GrpA/GrpC historics.

Nissan Exa turbo, Bluebird turbo, PJ DR30 Skyline, 2 x HR31 Skylines, & the #1 Winfield GT-R Godzilla.

It was a pre production Australian spec car. Red premium with the leather, Bose stereo and good tyres.

A couple of facts.

It does have launch control, but if you use it too many times, some things will no longer be covered by warranty.

It has no speed limiter.

It is really easy to drive- you could send your granny to the shops for milk in it.

It's really fast. Really!

This particular car will end up being crushed.

I already offered another red car to be crushed if I could keep this one. No dice.

This is a pic of me looking really smug

Acording to Top gear UK "It does infact have a speed limiter, but the Sat nav tells the ECU that its at a race track. and simply turns the limiter off"

i thought that was race tracks in japan only? unless they put all racetracks from the world on :s

aaaaaaaaaaaand y do they have 2 crush it? ill swap em if they want?

I dont think the aussie cars will have this feature - they just wont have a (180km/hr) limiter at all.

Having delt with pre-production cars that get registered and sold in the past best thing to do with them is crush them, they are usually test mules for the press to drive and a full of flaws, things are put together differently and usually slapped together, parts catelogues and tech info dont recognise the VIN and makes it a pain to work on. Sad, unforunte but true

Cobb will take care of the speed limiter regardless so I don't think it really matters does it? Hey GUN31 did the guys at Nissan Aust. tell you what they thought was 'too many times' as far as using the LC was? And the parts that would not be covered if you did use it too many times? I'm assuming the tranny?

That is true in Japan models. For models sold outside Japan there is no 180kmh speed limiter.

That was most certainly an Australian spec GT-R as you can tell it's the only market where popup HID washers are seen so far. Not checked if the Euro one has them too but I suspect it might.

That will be an awesome trick given the Australian car doesn't even have Sat Nav!!

I think you'll find the Oz car just doesn't have a limiter....

wtf would they crush it? I mean really, with all the starving kids around the world, why do they not raffle it as a non road going car and give the proceeds to charity.

Nissan FTL

By that logic we should all be driving the cheapest car available, probably something 50 years old. And instead of posting this using my 22 inch monitor i'd be using an old CGA 12 inch.

No speed limiter according to the Nissan guy.

He even suggested putting it on a dry lake to see how fast.

As for how many launches? Don't know.

All he said was overseas they are getting bent bits and broken bits because of this.

I would hazard a guess that they have not decided how many yet, and of course the ecu records all launches.

Craig Lowndes was really interested in the car too. Came and looked at it twice. (should have offered HIM a drive)

you are a sexxy beast hooks. and can't believe you didn't give me a drive. I was there on sunday. butthole.

still i can't be too upset i'm unpacking one out of it's container tomorrow or wednesday. :) the last one i'm importing. :)

good work mate and glad you like it.

Yes Hooks, I do owe you big time my friend... I was shaking after driving it... AWESOME car... I'm still talking about it...

Now to remember how to post pictures... and if only the skid pan was empty... I think we could have cracked 2.5 g acceleration from a rolling start... lol. (I would have been happy to spend all day trying...)

Don't blame Nissan!!! This is a tax office directive. Basically, the vehicles can be brought in and used for a year. After that year, they have to be destroyed, and on production of proof that the vehicle has been crushed, they get a nice tax refund on the car... Has been going on for years with lots of really nice cars going to the crusher. Aston's, Jag's etc....

The pre build and product test cars often do not have complience plates and therefore cannot be sold anyway.

In another twist, Vic Roads have also changed their rules and PT cars can now only be driven by employees of that manufacturer. They now have a Marketing Eval type rego.

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
