The only boost control device you need is your right foot :P

THIS.

I can't understand why people have those two stage boost controllers. i.e. 12psi low boost, 20psi high boost.

Pointless, if you want less boost, lift your foot a little??

My factory boost controller has been modified to give up to 13-14 psi, I have a switch turning it on and off. Boost gauge doesn't like regular changes though.

Clutch slippage, low boost till fixed. (done)

Coilpacks going, low boost till fixed. (done)

L plater girlfriend driving, low boost.

Car feels different, still nice to drive just a bit slower, I actually preferred it for a while.

Traction on nankangs is poor, esp in the wet, low boost helps as the stock turbo is insanely responsive and quickly goes from 7-14psi, wheelspin. Also with stock turbo there really isn't much difference between 7 and 14psi in terms of right foot position, just in power. The boost curve is weird because I don't have an electronic boost controller. 7 psi by 3000rpm, 14psi by 3100rpm.

Not sure why you'd do it with an actual boost controller. I did it to help the turbo, and the above reasons.

It's not going slower I was after, it was less boost, less engine stress. I preferred the switch.

It will have grip Steve. the tyres on it atm are just some nankangs that we use for the dyno

Track spec is going to be something entirely different.

I have to give credit to Marty White for the job he did on the head. It looks like bugger all but as he said, watch it spool. And boy! does it spool.

I had nankangs on mine for the tune and they turned to smoke and sprayed rubber up the wall and onto the roof of the car. lol

It looks like I'll get to the 5's just as you're getting to the 4's. Have you decided on turbo?

If you get into the 5s it will be on a boost level you wouldnt use everyday.

As for the turbo, it has become a very hard decision now. There are sooo many i want to try. There is one combo i would like but it means a total re-engineering of the exhaust side of the engine and im chomping at the bit as it is to get the thing on the road.

Lol, I'm not one of those high boost low boost switching people. Set it once then leave it, I figure it's not like the car runs at the highest boost all the time, only full throttle and that's up to my right foot to control :D

The 5557 sounds like it could be the winner for you from what powertune have done so far. I know what you mean about trying heaps of setups-that's all I talk about with Tonys brother every weekend......now where did I leave that money tree....

Steve, the 5557 i think is GT3076 territory.

One of the options was a Precision turbo though.

Believe it or not i am already planning the next engine turbo combo and the current one is not even finished yet :D

I'm hoping to have a stock rb25det/5557 plain bearing result veeery soon.

400 would be nice.... ha ha ha at the fly.

400......hp :D

Likewise, as you know.

I've got the bug bigtime to drive it again

nice result noel you crusty old man. although it really is way too much power just to drive to bingo on sundays but I guess you can get there early for prime seating. :D

hehe. seriously though that's a kick ass looking set-up mate. hope it gives solid service for years to come. :P

only reason i like having diffrent boost setings is so when i go to the track i can put my car on 16psi instead of thrashing it on 19psi all day long.

It didnt :D turbo number 4 shat its self on saturday

Yeah we are removing it now to send it off to Garrett to find out why. The last 3 turbos all failed for legitimate reasons. I'm expecting this one to be the same. It's a damn shame but we'll see what they say. Considering he's got sonic stickers all over the car I hope they give him a free one. If not then I'm sure he'll move to turbonetics or something journal based. He certainly doesn't need to worry about response

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
