Standard gearboxes are fine if you run normal street rubber or drive like miss daisy, but when you throw on some Drag Radials or Semis when they are at temp and use that over 400kw in anger things change in my opinion.

Well, this is from my experience of 2 very sick gearboxes and others I have known with some big powahs that get used in anger that is.

Some guy on here has a shop that hardens the cogs with some chemical or magical dust or something, might be worth looking into that if you plan on using the powahs in anger.

Piggaz is looking into a new box, might pay to see what he has to say as he does a lot of research on his car parts and he doesn't baby the thing.

Got to love big torque.

I dont think even cryo is enough when driving in anger with slicks and over 400kw, some aftermarket boxes use hardened larger input shafts to take the beating, wider gear sets to transmit the load across a wider tooth etc amoungst other things..

Id say the best way is to go auto if its a drag application with hard launches.

Problem is saying auto and GTR in the same sentance is like getting your left nut cut off.

I ran close to 60 passes in the mid 11's on ET Streets with a stock R33 gtst box. Wasnt until the car got a 2 step and the mechanic at the time decided to 2 step it into the burnout in third that it finally gave up. Next to nothing left of third. That was always running a twin plate clutch and 7000rpm plus launches

We ended up putting an OS 1st to 5th set in it, hopefully it lasts :)

I dont have a dyno sheet, buuuut, I made 447kw at 5850rpm and 1120ftlb at 5670 with the 2.8 and 6466 before we lifted the head. Ill have more results by the end of january subject to a head bieng taken off.

Lights the tyres on the dyno. Was teh lulz watching the operator shit himself

Mine had the alloy plate and that was absolute rubbish...I dont know why I put up with it for a few years.

When I sold it, I was told that OS supplied the incorrect thrust bearing, being a smaller diameter bearing was too aggressive on the diaphragm fingers.

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
