thanks for the support, I have been part of the SAU community since 2002 and I started out as clueless as most others and I have gotten sooo much out of the community that half the reason why I don't charge so much is because I feel that i owe something back... I have learnt sooo much and pretty much learnt how to tune on my own with help of friends and some help from these very forums.

I have clocked up hundreds of hours worth of dyno time or more so far and that does not include any of the street tuning etc I have done so I do have a fair bit of experience, I can pretty much do a whole PFC tune remap with bigger injectors in less then 2 hours these days and I keep suprising myself the more I do it.

I will have a think about it a bit more, maybe i just need a bit of a break from it all and should't take things soo personally which is hard because I do take pride in my work and like to think I am good at it.

well when your ready Guilt-Toy, PM me.. I'll be happy to pay for your experience with PFC tuning, reading up on your other threads genuinely proves you know what you're doing, unlike some tuners who just tweak the injection table and nothing else.

I get this alot myself, its an unfortunate side of it . Charging peanuts is usually the problem. People treat you different if you are super cheap, they treat you just like your a mate helping out or something.... its weird, the less you charge , the more they expect and it attracts all the cheap arse idiots who dont have a clue (and think they do!). I learned this early on.

Charge appropriately, and learn to say no if something is not up to scratch. And if they get the shits, then you dont want to deal with them anyway.

As most decent people would know, if something costs you alot, you initially might cringe, however if you are happy with the result, then you soon forget the cost and are left with a smile that lasts alot longer than a cost saving initially.

Confidence to charge appropriately is hard at first, depending on your personality, but you just have to get to that place where you do, else you get to the point where you are now and just throw it all away.

I truly believe there is a niche for the backyard 'techo' guys to do work and tuning, as some guys like the personal service they get, dealing direct with someone rather than a workshop where there is usually not that friendly atmosphere where they feel more comfortable.

Assuming your real good at what you do and take pride in your reputation (this alone will mean you go out of your way to do it right etc). They will keep coming back.... and word of mouth works well.

Saying no will offend the idiots, and you might get a rep as abit arrogant, but then the idiots fade away and people who want quality generally will flow in...... takes a few years but it does work, at least for me.

Hope you may reconsider !

Gary

well said.

Every conversation ive had with GT whether internerd or phone has only ever re-enforced my belief that he is more than competant in what he is doing.

GT it is sad to see you got burned by dickheads but inevitebly it happens to everyone and usually by the person you have gone most out of your way to help..... i.e. its cost yourself money to help them out.... up your prices and vet the time wasters...

Haha, first time he road tuned my car it took him all of about 5 minutes

and as mentioned before, we checked the AFMs on the dyno, pretty damn impressive!

I have some dyno sheets for you too if you want them, before and after :)

PS: WHEN my turbo dies (little bastard just keeps holding on) I won't be blaming you

Ah nuts, i was hoping you'd be still keen to hit up Tassie to tune my car (and a few others)

Hope it all works out for you either way you go cobber and all the best with it :D

Johnny, what is your engine worth?

obviously less than $600...he thinks its tuned...but it knocks...have you read his thread?

here tis..

More than happy with my GT tune. I got exactly what i wanted and Anthony is a great guy to deal with. I had a few issues with my car and Anthony was gracious through it all.

yeah but I prefer an experienced tuner that tunes as a hobby rather than money if you know what I mean?

that's what I like about enthusiasts, they do extra things

and I want a road tune rather than a dyno tune.

and DIRTgarage if you read my post, it only knocks when I hit the limiter..

it's just like comparing a workshop install a head unit into a car vs someone from CarAudioAustralia you will see the difference in workmanship straight away, the same way I prefer to install my own car alarm than going to an auto electrician, I cut all cables to length, solder and only use heat shrinks and disable points at non-generic places.

Do you get where I am coming from?

why is it then that my 585KW 9 second GTR is launched off the limiter on every single pass (and held on the limiter for 3-4 seconds) and doesn't register knock ?

i must just be lucky :D

If yours is running an untouched base timing map as you have stated in your Power FC and after taking fuel out of the rich base injection map it will pop...trust me.

because you have GTR knock sensors and he has GTST knock sensors, you can scream "KNOCK" in the engine bay and it will read 150 knock with 25 knock sensors

I first started tuning 5 years ago because DiRTgarage told me it would pull the chicks and I managed to not achieve what I wanted to do and that is to be able to score a bit of casual sex every now and then so id save money on expensive hookers... So yeah it was all about me getting laid :D

the truth finally comes out. :D

yes damn shame was hanging out for a GT tune. maybe with some good tassie seafood and beer and tassie views he maybe just might reconsider coming down ??

i hope so..

eitherway goodluck with it all Anthony

cheers

Man that sucks a fat one, i wish there were blokes like yourself around up here in north queensland, most of the professional tuners here love lean conditions, its why i am blessed with a popped 26:(

    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
