Had an accident earlier today.

Some guy was parked in an intersection planning on turning right. We were facing each other and I was going straight. He didn't see me, failed to give way and turned in front of me, and we collided. Idiot claims I ran a red light when I obviously didn't (was yellow). The red light camera at the intersection didn't flash. He seemed really dodgy and will probably try to get one of his friends to be a witness and say that I was at fault.

We are both insured, comprehensively for me, not sure for him, but I assume so. Hopefully my insurance company can just sort it out. Damage isn't too bad - looks like just the bodywork/bumper. No leaks. Could still drive it home.

Just makes me so mad when other people blatantly lie to your face, trying to blame you for their stupid mistakes....

Does anyone know a good workshop I can take it to be repaired? I live in the south-west so anywhere near is good, but I can travel further if needed. I heard Micolour or DT panels is good. Can they actually make sure nothing's wrong with the mechanicals as well?

Thanks.

isnt running the red light the same as drink driving / doing something illegal which would make you not covered by your insurance ?

hopefully you got a witness or something

*edit* oh there was a camera there that didnt flash.. looking pretty good for you then

You have no problems in regards to who's fault it is.

Vic law states you should give way to on coming traffic, he didn't, regardless of whether you ran the red or not..

Obviously you win.

Take it to Micolour....

thats true, my brother got t-boned by a speeding 4x4 at a round about, because he thought the 4x4 was gonna stop to give way to the guy on his right, brother took that risk and drove into the round about and got t-boned on the by the 4x4. brother fault didnt give way.

They always do that... when I had my accident ages back, similar situation; guy didn't give way to me when I was traveling down the main road & he was coming out of a driveway from a car park. Tried to pull excuses out from his a** to blame me that I was speeding 80 - 100km/h (limit was 50), which was complete BS, if I had being going that fast the damage would have being A LOT worse.

Anyway, bad luck, but you have full comp insurance & his clearly at fault so it should all sort out for you. When I had my accident I only had 3rd party at the time so I had to go & get all the stuff sorted myself.

Best luck with it.

If your getting it fixed through insurance you may NOT have a choice who they use to fix the car.

You can make a suggestion, however if your insurance company is "Affiliated" with certain shops they will try their hardest to push you towards those shops.

Having said this, some insurers like Shannons will let you choose who does the work.

Thanks for the replies guys. Just got off the phone from my insurer and it should be ok. I need two quotes, one of which is from their "preferred" workshop. Then they will decide which quote to take - guess it will be their preferred repairer.

Any one have any experience with these panel shops? Any of these have SAU discounts people know of? These are their preferred workshops:

- Sheen Panel Service (Sth Melbourne)

- Bell Collision Repair Centre (Preston)

- AAA Bodyworks (Oakleigh)

- Classic Panels (Dandenong)

- Westwood Accident Repair Centre (Deer Park)

- Precision Body Works (Hoppers Crossing)

Cheers.

AAA are a waste of time - i tried two weekends in a row to get a quote for a friend.

Both times "yes, we will be here Sat morning 10:30am), so i get there, roller door is down, no one in sight.

It wont be the preferred repairer - they just say that.

Get the quotes, take it to Micolour - go from there

We took our Subaru to Sheen Panel in South Melb for a quote, the pricing was staggering compared to other quotes sought. Can't comment on quality but we were sent there on recommendation so "assume" it is ok.

    • Dear folks My family members have 4 different cars : Triton 2015 and Corolla 2011 and Mazda3 2012 and Hyundai Elantra 2014 Looking to buy engine oil funnel spill free What I found are are below  https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0BBTTJNKX?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image&th=1 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/145553221359?srsltid=AfmBOoqYBU6Ptw0LU_bAp_k67U3qkF97HHvePkA7iHZw8vUmiwoIRaRr https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09X23TCS5?th=1 Is there a funnel with attachment that fits most cars ? • Stock ECU (or more accurately stock tune) absolutely refuses to go over 10psi and behaves like you have seen. The Nistune is the same if it is the stock tune. If the Nistune chip has been tuned, the resulting tune could be literally anything for any combination of parts. The Nistune just makes the stock ECU Tunable.
    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
