haha yeah, toyota charger run by the haltech via NOS control (load rpm etc) then via a differential valve into the cooler, when the turbo boost exceeds the charger boost it is business as usual.... of course everything is also compounding so boost builds very quick. The charger drag seems to rob about 10-12rwkw from the top end. A few hours on the dyno and the boost switching/ load point is almost impossible to pick which was a big suprise for both of us.

The graph above of the the 2 rb30's is actually the same car before and after.

I have NEVER been in a car that builds boost and torque so rapidly other than BIG dollar supercharged v8's, its a real credit to luke.

Toyota supercharger....? I am guessing that its the SC14 from the 1GGZE which has the electric clutch.I would love to see pics of this one.I am interested as to why it loses 10-12rwkw in the top end as my understanding is that the Toyota Charger is totally disengaged much like an A/C compressor when switched off.

why use the sc14, if it's CMRS. its more likely to be a M90 or M62 off a calais or ford lightning.

To many turbs, its actually GT3582R 0.82 rear housing with a 0.5 front, but the dit function wont allow me to fix it.

Oh so this is a real rb30ET not a 3litre 25/26 !! Wow, thats cool.

Does anyone remember, maybe zoom mag about 5+ years ago , they had a RX-323 with a 13B Turbo, with a SC14 clutched on side as well, running haltech too using a throttle body being switched somehow. Can't remember exact details, but it used positive switching throttle plates.

yeah i did first think toyota, but thought it would be a bit small in this case. pics or a diagram would help out here, as i cant visualize just where the valves are or what they do in this case (bundy probly isnt helping this lol). im guessing its run as a straight compound system with a valve to bypass the supercharger when the turbo is making more boost than the supercharger?

urtwhistle: reason for using the toyota charger in this case would be for the ability to 'switch it off'

sounds like a very well thought out system, especially in the way its being controlled via 3d mapping.

fastrotor. that little grean thing was great, i have the magazine here somewhere. but i think it was overcomplicated with valves etc, like this car may be....

if i was to do it, i think it would all be fixed, no valves or tricky sh*t like that, too much time spent for probly not alot of gain...

any chance the owner of this VL will let you put pics up?

it is super simple, i will take pics next time its in.

Simple y pipe between turbo and charger, the turbo inlet for the y has the valve in it..... very simple and CHEAP.

What a coincidence....a member on NS is using the same supercharger and same turbo setup on an SR with a VVL head (two cam profiles and can't throw rockers) which he started back in November

Haha slapping toyota superchargers on the side of anything and everything goes back way further than november last year :D we did a td04, charger and twin draw thru su's back when i was an apprentice on a 4k corrola (easy as head was non x-flow) ..... around 1994 i think and i know i was just one of 1000's back then even. I even think rod hadfield sell kits for most aussie engines.

plus he is definately not a ns.com reader or poster... no self respecting person is anymore.

True that.....I remember back in high school a couple of my mates did it to EA falcons...made about 200rwkw with nothing more than a rising rate fuel reg and a decent exhaust with 6-7psi of boost.

But i can't help asking , how does he switch the valve open, (ie solenoid, stepper etc ?)

Once turbo valve is open, i assume you can't turn the super off , as i assume air would try to flow back out thru the super( turning it backwards i assume, not sure if this is possible in a positive displacement charger????)

So even thought the super is outflowed by the turbo once above operating speed, i assume the super is kept on just to stop air coming out,(hence your comment on top end Hp loss) and i guess its airflow would add to the total flow anyhow since its positive displacement ???

Oh, and how does the turbo go with its surge limit when spooling into a closed throttle ? He could add another valve that recirculated the air back into the front of the turbo to make it spool up quicker.... like the S6-7-8 rx-7 does with the bigger of its twins.

Lots of assumptions on my part.... am i close ?

i was thinking about doing this setup for a while however I am now capping the money spent on my car so its not going to happen. good to see how well it works

An rb30det has enough grunt down low already.. and by the look of the graph, he has the same down low as any rb30 det.

When I drive my rb30et I feel the pain cause it's a laggy crack whore....

I would go as far to say this bloke would have been better off just going twin cam and enjoying the power.... as opposed to having f**ked around to get the same power and response as a twin cam.

Point is, for a single cam this is awesome....... for a twin cam, very average.

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
