Sounds good! Can someone tell me if the car naturally steps out when breaking traction in the straight line without turning the wheel? (Forza 3 does this :P )

Also, do the cars still feel like they have an open wheel diff when doing burnouts etc? This was the main flaw in the physics. The car wouldnt naturally slide around when doing burnouts.

If you dont understand what im saying, playing live for speed & then play GT5 prologue and you'll see the BIG difference.. Just do a donut or something and it will be obvious.

previously power on understeer was the default action for any RWD car no matter how powerful. either that or violent snap oversteer which was un-saveable no matter how quick you were with the opposite lock. now the cars rear end actually moves around fairly progressively and can be controlled with some opposite lock and throttle application nicely.

Well, that's a positive. Hopefully you can steer with the throttle a bit more delicately than needing full throttle in first gear to get any sort of oversteer happening (RWD). Also, I hope that LFB works with the FWD's, as this is a very regularly used and effective technique - in gravel anyway.

As far as the whole graphics debate goes, as long as I can see the track well enough to judge corners, brake markers, turn in points etc. (GT4 was crap for that) then I'm happy. I don't give a flying f*** about shadows / shiny paint / spectators / smoke int he mirrors etc. If the interior of the cars looks realistic, then that's a bonus, but something I would happily trade for good physics and track visibility.

I don't even have a PS3 - may get one for Xmas along with GT5. Until then I'll be interested to see the developments here.

Oh, and for those saying it's a simulator - it isn't. Try a real simulator (GTR / IRacer, GPL etc) first then you'll see that the GT series are games - nothing more. Not that there's anything wrong with that. For all the criticisms I've had about GT4, I still have a ball driving it, and I'm certain GT5 will be the same

There has been a huge improvement on the tyre front as well (although you need to get deep into the game to appreciate this). Although it is found out early on with the Kart stuff.

With all tyres they get hot if you push into a corner but "cool down" again if you drive smooth. But once you get to the longer races you can actually drive to preserve tyres from the start. If you run one of the 5 lap events in the GT All Stars event on Medium slicks you'll be stuffed at the end if you try and drive 10/10th as the tyres don't come back to you after they get hot. But if you drive smooth from the start the tyres will still be great at the end.

Having to try and drive fast but smooth is a great challenge rather than trying to set lap records every lap.

i've seen you going on about this a bit lately. short answer is no. and based on my experiences in my own car, and others, this is realistic.

what does happen in the game, is if you accelerate going in a straight line and the road surface is completely flat, if you break traction, the ass end doesnt step out.

if the road surface is anything less than perfectly flat.. ie.. most of daytona with a slight bank, yes it will step out as gravity pulls the ass towards the inside of the track. also if there is still some inertia left pushing the car in any lateral direction coming out of a corner, yes it steps out.

the way you describe what happens in forza sounds slightly unrealistic if you ask me

driving physics are worlds away from the Prologue... much much better... on par with Forza if not better

Kombi challenge is hard but Gold can be had, just gotta know where the game will let you cut the corners and where it won't

I'm having trouble with the Exige challenge... 5th is the best I've gotten so far... that's with traction control off... might have to turn it back on as I lose heaps of ground coming out of hammerhead trying to feather the throttle and get the power down

I'm still freaked out how realistic the GTR is... as someone already mentioned Forza didn't get them right but GT5 has nailed it

combi challenge is pretty easy with a little discipline.

your major overtaking opportunities are the just before chicago (where the track jinks to the left before entry into chicago) , the entry into hammer head and bacharach ( you can make up alot of room here but bewarned they others go really slow so try to miss them).

As long as you dont rear end someone you should be in third by the start of lap two... then just rinse and repeat.

im not gonna read thru all the pages coz that will take me days haha

i just wanted to vent....i cant believe u are not able to modify "normal" cars and u cant do brake upgrades...hopefully they fix this in some online upgrades, i mean 6 years to make a fkn video game u would think it would be 1000000% perfect

This could be what you are looking for - http://www.wheelstandpro.com.au/index.html None in stock from there though currently.

I'm actually using a Playseat which pulls apart nicely as well but is fairly bulky when assembled.

But have to say now after playing with it set-up and with a wheel its 11ty x's better than with the controller.

What did that setup set you back?

I have the old wheel that you got with the GT4 package but wouldn't mind getting a proper setup and a new wheel.

You guys think we should have another thread dedicated to steering wheel/seat setups?

The seat / stand was about $600. I like everything about it except for the height of the H Pattern shifter (too low). So consequently tend to use the paddles more often even though I would like to use the H Pattern more (especially on easy races where the H pattern adds its own degree of difficulty to keep things more interesting).

Google Playseat for details anyways - they have a stack of different options.

So far im enjoying the game, i agree there are still a few things that just are not right but the way the car control has improved makes it far more enjoyable than the last one, I had a couple of tries with the Combi race and gave up lol i will be having another go tonight.

More complaints lol.

No R33 GTSTs in the game.

The kombi challenge is a bitch, but I managed first.

The next one with the elise is impossible lol. I got to the last corner, got first but DQ'd cause he cut across me -.-. Got silver and left it.

The last one is the jeep one, slower still than the kombi... That one can be frustrating but I got gold on 2nd try, lead for about a lap....

Online play is awesome, especially with mates.

Question for everyone: are the cars you buy from the dealership all premium? Cause I can't see whether or not it states that they are and don't want to waste credits by trying....

Can I add the crowd to the list of annoying things? I know it's a relatively unimportant aspect of the game, but I thought that in this day in age they could produce spectators that weren't all 2D identical twins! I feel likes i'm playing sega rally in the arcade!

Another annoying thing about the crowd... Admitedly it is only minor, is the sound

I noticed this when doing the beginner rally (special) challange.

If you go to reverse view, the sound of the crowd cheering restarts, so if you keep going between forward and reverse views quickly, you can see what I mean. I know its only a really minor detail... but I'm sure it wouldnt have been hard to just have a constant sound of the crowd and just adjust the output of the sound to sound like it was coming from a different angle. Not just restart the sound byte every time you change view.

As said. The game is good, but it is lacking in some very silly and annoying ways. Im starting to get bored of the game, but multiplayer might save it for me.

all cars from the new car dealership are premium

do you mean, if u hit the breaks after flying down the straight (250KM) the rear steps out and causes loss of control, because yes. this happeens to high powered RWD cars.

suppose I should have noticed it from the car list published last week, but the Veyron you win isn't a premium model :action-smiley-069:

oh well- my MP4 is and the F1 will be... now back to win the last few hundred thousand credits

I found the kombi challenge relatively easy to get silver. exige 1 was harder but still got silver after a handfull of attempts.

What is annoying me the most though isn't the game but a lot of people on here. i have said it before on here and i'm going to say it again since so many people aren't getting it. polyphony HAVE NOT been working on this game for the past 6 years, not even 5 years. more like 3 years. you have to remember that they put out gt5 prologue and then scrapped a lot of the physics and started over.

As for the people complaining about the lack of smoke in the mirrors or the white lines, honestly, who cares? well you obviously, but why? It would just be a bigger drain on resources and would have to come at the expense of something else. it seems as though people want everything but aren't willing to accept that maybe the ps3 isn't cappable of doing it.

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
