Danny, while you've got the turbo in you hand, could you possibly measure the housing for me? I need the compressor outside diameter so I know what will else will fit.

Im thinking of going to a Garrett 3582R or 3076R depending on the size, external gate to give me more room. (no actuator) They are about 200mm, and would have to be no more than an inch bigger than standard I guess for it to fit.

I think Danny still has the busted turbo that came off his car, get him to measure that one

Both of these will be a bit laggy, with boost starting around 2500rpm and max boost around 4000rpm. To get the most from either, you will need to spend a lot more than the $2-3K they will set you back...making it a very costly exercise. There's only so much you can do to increase spool times (ignition timing and exhaust and tuning, tuning, and more tuning play a big part).

On the plus side, your fuel economy will be great since you'll be off-boost pretty much all of the time while driving around, and once on boost it will come on very strong and pull hard right to the redline (4000-6500rpm?).

I do strongly feel that the GT35 is far too big for this size engine, and personally I think the GT30 is too, but that comes down to how much money you're prepared to throw at it and what you can tolerate. I know because I've been there with my last stagea (GT30). At the very least you need a decent fuel supply (not sure what the M35 stock fuel pump/injectors can handle), a good aftermarket ecu (it must be able to tune ignition timing, and do it well - this will help with spool-up times by optimising rev build-up and also torque at low revs), free-flowing exhaust, possibly aftermarket AFM, and probably more that I'm not aware of because I never got that far. It just seemed that every little thing I modified then required another 3 things to make it work better...so I gave up and sold it.

Think about whether you can tolerate cruising in traffic (revs around 1500-2000rpm for me), and having basically a "dead spot" in the rev range every time you want boost. between say 1800 and 2500rpm its going to feel like you've changed from 2nd straight to 4th or something. Then when it hits boost it wont be the smooth transition you got when the car was stock, it'll be much more urgent. "sudden" isn't really the right word but you get the idea.

I found it really frustrating to drive, because boost was just never available 80% of the time, and then when it did hit boost it was a bit much. It was good, and I did like the push back in the seat feeling but it really only made sense on a drag strip. When just cruising around it just annoyed me.

I believe you can overcome some of the above issues but it will involve parting with a lot of cash over time and thats where I'd recommend the cheaper option of a GT28 highflow. A GT28 should be enough to take you well over 200awkw, and it'll be more responsive at low revs, so it comes down to how much power you really want/need.

Sorry for the long post - I've said my bit now, and hopefully its helpful. I'll hop back in my shell now

I came to that conclusion myself with the gt35, It wont run well with the 2.5, I just wanted something big I could use if I upgraded to the 3.5L block. I didnt want to get a highflow then need to upgrade later.

I have done most of the mods without cracking the engine, exhaust, intercooler and piping, Emanage ultimate, The gearbox is getting a valve body upgrade today, and I dont mind doing the manifolds for a new turbo as its only my time, no labour but Im not sure I would want to rip the engine out just now.

After seeing the highflow, I may change my mind. The exhaust side looks good, its the compressor I find too small. Perhaps GCG can replace the housing for a larger one, allowing me to use the standard exhaust and manifold with improved inlet flow at least, of course it would have to fit in the tiny space. I dont want to get stuck with another bottleneck thats all.

What would be the limit of the GCG rebuild anyway? Im guessing 220 awkw? Is that enough to stop the car feeling like its overweight?

Why go a bigger turbo? If you can make your own manifolds, do some additional plumping and get something like a R32 Intercooler and just put another standard turbo on the other side.......there's room there.....alot easier to do than putting a bigger turbo in IMO.

well current goal for me after tune and stuff is 230-240kwatw thats very quick for a wagon

if u really want a fast car i dont think the stagea is a right car for ya

That is about what I am after also... although I may have changed my mind once I have reached it!

I just hope you guys dont hit the same hurdles I am.

The auto was checked today and he found the clutches have burned up. Could be 2-3 grand for a full rebuild including valve body and extra clutch plates shoved in. Not a good day.

Hopefully the importer will help out with some warranty cash.

240 would be good, I spoke to GCG today and he tells me the highflows are laggy with too much flow so they may have plenty power to make.

    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
