Your red r32 gtr was pure horn!

so clean!!!

so jealous!

The other highlight that deserves its own post is the winner of "BEST R32 GT-R - 20TH ANNIVERSARY 1989 - 2009"

A well deserved 1st place in no uncertain terms.

A lot of projects of the magnitude that you've undertaken can easily suffer from the build taking on a life of its own with well thought out plans somehow shooting off in all manner of directions which will create all sorts of headaches as the continuity of the overall "aesthetic" if not continually addressed and brought back into line will suffer and hence so will the ultimate product. The ability to recognise that this is happening is fairly straightforward - the ability to address it "correctly" as its happening and to "bridge" it each time it happens adopting a "linear" mind set is not. You have clearly "addressed correctly" every component of the build of the project because it all works and looks right. So much so sometimes that the untrained eye will not appreciate all the work because the finished project looks so good and works so well that a sense of "no effort" often is mistakenly adopted. As i myself know only too well it can take dozens of hours to get a particular part or pairing of parts to look like hardly any time at all was spent. You mentioned above that you "have put a lot of work into the car." That is the understatement of the century !! - along with that work you put in you put in "ability, talent & reason" which are the attributes required to adopt and stay true to that ever important linear mind set. Not everyone can do that or should i say not everyone can do that to the level that you have expressed.

Its a talent that youve been fortunate enough to be able to recognise, adopt, use & refine that benefits us all !! - something to be very very proud of indeed !

CONGRATULATIONS on an inspired build - it is 1st class in every category - truly remarkable - & as far as having something to show for it its not the trophy on your mantle piece the trophy is parked in your garage

Cheers Malcolm :D

Thankyou for the kind words, Malcolm it’s nice to see how much you and others appreciate the effort that has gone into this car.

I need to say a big thank you to my partner Bianca it’s really her car. She has played a big role in how the car looks today and done a great job polishing it for the show.

Cheers Brian

That 33 there is mint! i loved it. Whoever owns it has got a beauty!

It's like the cleaner, nicer, more standard version of mine.

That 33 Is Terry's sons very nice car, spoke to him for a bit and spoke to Terry for a bit they both had very nice cars and were very good blokes, Caught Terry recording the show a few times aswell :D

Also spoke to Malcolm, Mate Very nice car you have and can appreciate the effort that goes to getting some of those bits and pieces, also had some top ideas

A lot of nice cars that had a lot of effort and time and not to mention money put into them, was the best $10 i spent and a couple of my relatives came all the way from Orange and came to the show before they left to go back they thought it was Awesome :)

Thanks Luke! Yes she is practically standard except for suspension, exhaust, rims and a few other minor things. It was good to see some quality R33 GTRs there and UWISSH was a deserving winner. A lot of $$ and hard work obviously has gone into the engine and mechanicals as well as exterior there.

It was good to meet you mate, and see a genuine LM in the flesh. Likewise I thought it was magic to see all of the quality machines there under one roof and so many people who are passionate and united by the same hobby. Gibson R32 GT-R was definitely a highlight for me, as was GTR32G's red R32 GT-R - its spot in the sunlight definitely helped to show off that brilliant paintjob. Nice rims on Bakes' car too; I didn't think he could top the Gold GT-Cs but the new ones look amazing.

Great effort by the mods and organisers / volunteers, thanks for all your hard work.

An awesome day, my first SAU event and i was thoroughly impressed :D

Thanks to all the people i met and chatted with on the day, was fantastic to know the club i've joined is full of such inviting and friendly people. Special thanks to Shell for putting up with my pestering and Malcolm for putting the three, i mean two, stickers on my car :):D

Congratulations to all the winners, they're an inspiration for the future of my car; some truly exquisite machinery.

Thought i should throw up a comparison pic :)

I've got a better one at home with the 2 cars on either side of a walkway :D

Some more pics, the first one has to be my favourite (Unbiased of course :) )

Seriously though too many breathtaking examples to pick a favourite for the day, the judges really had some tough decisions to make. Thanks to all the organisers for a great day

Even though some of the pictures dont do them justice these are my favourites of the day.

Well done to Duncan and Neil + partners on organising an awesome day. The venue was great, the lack of loud music was great, going home not sunburnt was great, many very nice cars and apart from a couple of carpark burnouts everyone got along well together.

Days like this are the only time I miss not having a gtr or 2 in the garage :)

Got plenty of ideas for the next event from an organisers p.o.v

Great work all of you volunteers. Well done and a very well put together show.

Also well done to all the entrants for all the polishing and cleaning. The cars were a real credit to you all.

Thanks Abo,,,I'm really bloody happy you liked it!!!. As I've said a zillion times YOU were the best Pres we have ever had and If you liked it I'm stoked.

What can I say about everybody that attended,,,words don't really describe it. BLOODY FANTASTIC. I was gob smacked at the HUGE number of quality cars shown. It made me feel really proud to be the President of our Club and pulling off the largest show on record. After reading this whole thread I now have another massive smile on my face again. I spent all day talking,,,working,,,smiling,,,repeat,,,repeat,,,repeat,,,by the end of the day I was stuffed and I mean stuffed.

Which brings me to everybody that helped organize the day,,,you ALL should give yourselves the BIGGEST PAT/SLAP on your back you are capable of. To pull this shit off in the time frame we had was insane,,,wives, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends, family & friends, club members, non club members EVERYBODY,,,I thank you all. Behind the scenes was rather stressful but we got through it.

Thats enough for now,,,our household needs a real dinner.

Neil.

God i hope it was a coincidence that it happened after i came home from the show, but my car got broken into and attempted stolen last night :D

Just wanted to say anyone that is putting together DVDs of the day please PM and ill happily buy copies. I was taking photos on my cheap digi camera then decided it would be best to get copies of your guys DSLR photos instead. And my camera got stolen from the car anyway...

Can't wait for the next show :) See you guys at christmas cruise or texikhana!

how the hell did an Audi get Best Exterior ????

Must admit i dont understand how a non Skyline car can be eligable to enter competition against anything other than non Skyline cars ? ... I believe that BEST INT. / EXT. / ENGINE BAY / ENGINEERING etc can only be won by a Skyline ... not taking away from how fantastic the Audi was but for it to win BEST EXTERIOR i believe there had to be a BEST NON SKYLINE EXTERIOR category ... i was under the impression that all the non Skylines were all up against each other in the BEST NON SKYLINE CATEGORY & only SKYLINES unless specified by model ie: CLASSIC/31/32/33/34/35 were up agianst other Skylines for the BEST INT/EXT/ENGINE BAY/etc ... surely this fair as it is a Skylines Show & Shine ... great to have other cars attend & enter but not great to have them compete in a category that they do not belong in ... if youre a non Skyline youre only competing against other non skylines in a category that has "non Skyline" in its title ... surely only BEST NON SKYLINE is more than sufficient for this. With all the model specific & other specific categories competed for by only Skylines ... :( ...

What about that idiot periodically starting and revving his Skyline,,,I was standing waiting for food (I only got chips) if thats what you would call it and the young guy next to me say's what the hell is that,,,I said oh just a crazy bloke that thought a LS1 in a Skyline would be a good idea. We both loved it....Stuart.

Neil.

goddamn noisey dino-line!

re classes - only 6 of the 19 were open to non-skylines, and in the end only 2 or 3 of them were won by non-liners. I saw the audi and thought the exterior was excellent.

i guess we could have different rules next time, but while it is a skyline focussed show it's not skylines only - just like we are a skylines enthusiast club not a skyline owners club.

to be honest, the bitching about winners (and it happens every single time) makes me prefer a show with no awards at all. immediately stops all the unhappiness as well as saving the judges running around all day on a hiding to nothing.

i can honestly say that this was one car i went back and had a couple of looks at.......stunning

seeing the cars that you all daily drive made me a little jealous. but was still happy to get my line out of the garage even if i only drove it 20 meters. still got to make some noise lol. put the commonhore to shame.

big thanks to Charles & Clinton for helping me load up. Also excellent to meet some members in the flesh.

Great effort by everyone involved.

Car of the day for me (besides Winfield GTR) was the black R32 gtr...Fat 32. just a special car, and a real nice bloke who was the rightfully proud owner.

thought i might be a chance on best engineering until i saw the work that went into the rear end of the r31. really well done and definately different.

anyway, 3 return trips to Westmead in 2 days has caught up with me. Thanks to all those who wished my daughter well, we are now home and resting up and all looks good.

hope to see you all on the track soon....

Stuart

it was pure awesomeness :( I wish I had a little more time to check it out during the day though

Stu, did you have ANY idea how much attention you got when you were putting your car on the trailer??? I was at the opposite end of the parking lot and all i could see was a sea of heads turn and just watch!

ps. glad she's doing well!

God i hope it was a coincidence that it happened after i came home from the show, but my car got broken into and attempted stolen last night :D

    • Gday Thought it was about time I started a build thread! As expected this project has snowballed into a huge financial liability, but unless you’re strong willed and responsible, it’s not a surprise. Background -  My first turbo car was an R32 GTS-4, got my full license and then totalled my Au Falcon a week later, so while trying to sell my RMZ450 dirtbike to buy another car a bloke offered to swap the R32 which at the time I felt like I was ripped off but looking back and seeing prices of those now ($40kish) it was a good deal, I didn’t know enough about these cars to appreciate what I had so sold it before the RB20 blew up. Between here and there, out of 12 cars I’ve owned the note worthy ones are a V8 Lexus SC400 (soarer), a couple of XR6 Turbos and my beloved S15 which I had for about 3 years, picked it up for $12500, repairable write off but she was fine, gun metal grey/pewter and bone stock/unmolested until I got my hands on it. Ended up spending about the value of the car and 280kw, 2 demerit points by the time I got defected and sold it for $14500 (also $40kish in today’s market, rip) Fast forward to the present day, I’m in a much better position financially and daily an MQ Triton (great cars, pipe down Ranger Bois), I cruised marketplace and car sales for a few months looking for another R32, the best deal I could find was an absolute rust bucket half finished project for $12000, until this R33 popped up in Port Macquarie for $18k - unregistered and barely running but decent shape, kept an eye on it for a few weeks and the price steadily dropped, $16k then $15k then $14k, that was the point where I was like shit someone’s gonna snatch this up! It was owned by a young bloke who had big plans but him and his missus just had a baby so smartest move financially for them but big gain for me. So 2 days later I’m towing a car trailer to pick this thing up. Roughly 2 weeks and $3500 later I’m cruising around Newcastle in my beat up R33 all smiles and dose noises! It only needed some basic shit to get it going, coil packs and air flow meter, electrical stuff and all fluids changed, 158k kms and running pretty good, nice smooth engine after oil and coolant flush - when I say coolant I mean it had been filled up with tap water, every gallery and heater element was filled with rust, 8-9 flushes later and still had brown liquid coming out but she’ll be right. The car was painted R34 Bayside Blue at some point but whether it was a cheap job or just not looked after is anyone’s guess, clear coat flaking like sausage roll.  Was rethinking my choices and contemplating life, had it up for sale for $22k - still cheaper than any registered R33 but got little interest, next minute I had an opportunity at work - 6 months overseas for good money, so that was a no brainer, fast forward again and here we are with a 50% finished project. Current Mods - 200ish KW according to butt dyno Was tuned with Apexi PowerFC EBC (old school Greddy Profec)  Stock turbo (more shaft play than a Tinder date gone right) 3inch turbo back Varex muffler  Aftermarket injectors of mystery size, Power FC showed 36% duty cycle at full boost so not behd good size Someone had good intentions but stuck with the stock R33 MAF so we had misfires at 6000rpm due to the MAF hitting 5.2V So far I’ve redone the entire interior with carpet form Car Mats Direct, new Seats and steering wheel from Autotechnica, also sound system by Autobarn (mainly Kicker) Also MCA pro comfort coil overs - Hands down best purchase yet, worlds of improvement over the tired 30yrold shocks Goals - 450kw/600hp on flex tune New paint job - Midnight Purple 2 Engine is at the shop getting rebuilt with forged rods a pistons, new valves and springs, ATI Harmonic balancer, Aeroflow 7.5L sump, rear head drain and oil restrictors as per oil control thread* and cam covers modded for larger breathers, other stuff I can’t recall of the top of my head Parts purchased and to be installed once the engine is done -  Engine loom from Wiring Specialties including these options: Haltech Nexus S3 R35 Coil pack conversion  PRP Dual Trigger kit Fan controller  Other Parts -  262 Kelford Cams Turbo - Hypergear ATR43SS3-ProS with T51R mod (whistly boi) 6 boost manifold (high mount) 50mm Turbosmart Pro gate (plumbed back for legal reasons) HKS Super Turbo Exhaust with High Flow Cat Custom 3.5inch dump and front pipe 1500cc Bosch injectors  Fuel Pump walbro 525 Haltech MAP and IAT sensors Haltech Flex Sensor Fenix Radiator with dual thermo fans LS1 Alternator Kit Oil Filter Relocation from EFI solutions and Cooling pro oil cooler Many other things sitting in my garage waiting for that engine to come back. Progress pics to follow -
    • Losses have to be less with DC coupling. Provided the battery inverter has decent MPP tracking ability - which really shouldn't be a problem. It's not 2005 any more.
    • Hi, Will the R33 GTR rear brake backing plates fit a GTST? I'm struggling to find GTST ones but can find new GTR ones.   Thanks.
    • I also got the same floor mats for a bit of extra bazzaz haha
    • Some more close up pics now that I’m back to working on the car, the loop pile is nice but again haven’t compared it to the other types in person, it’s hard to tell from the pics on the website. View of the hemming on the edges too, it comes in 2 pieces - front and back, honestly very happy with it for anyone on the fence.  Also attached my previous pics from further up as it didn’t let me post them directly before. (Nothing worse than photo bucket pics that aren’t hosted anymore years later)
