Horrible Incident For My R32 Gtr, Now Need Parts..

Hey guys, thought I'll share this story with you guys which just happened to me today and even now i still cant believe it happened...

This afternoon around 2pm, me and my mate were working on the stereo system on my car so we took the middle surround piece out in order to access the audio cables.

I was sitting on the passenger seat and he was on the driver seat, My mate needed more working space so he pulled down the handbrake, and put it into gear (REVERSE) so the car doesnt roll while the car was off but key was inside and it was on ACC

Around 15 mins later my mates phone rang and he stood up and walked out of the carport to answer the call, he was talking a while on the phone... the stereo was playing, so i thought ill turn on the car to charge the battery just incase it die and cant start the car later. Big mistake by me, as i always assumed the handbrake (I never put down the handbrake while working on car) was up and completely forgotten that my freind pulled it down and put in REVERSE.

I walked to the other side of the car, i turned the ignition on, horrible disaster was about to happen to my beloved GTR...

It rolled back, like how it would if you were to start the car with handbrake on while the car is in gear, however it did not stop, it was going atleast 5km/hr. My right arm was stuck at the steering wheel and i tried to turn off the car (but the Turbo timer was on for 30sec, Boost controller was also on) and reach for the handbrake but it wasnt possible for me to reach in that position. NOW why didnt the car stop? normal car would stall isnt it? maybe because turbo and boost controller were on? :)

It rolled back for 3M, and it was very fast i could not do anything but yell out "HELP ME MIKE!!" my driver side door broke because of my body was in the way and the left door hit the carports pole, so gone 2 doors. When my mate heard the scream he turned around and saw what was happening...he was like WTF???!! then ran straight to me and jumped into the driver seat to pull the handbrake up... just a little bit too late the right rear panel hit the side of the gate... big dent from the rear pods to fuel cap.

Now, imagine if my mate wasnt there... I would of been dead or at at least break my legs/arms as the car pulled me to the gate, yes it moved like 5M (when it hit the gate) from the garage door. Secondly if it didnt hit the gate and stopped, it would of gone to the road and hit the car parked on the other side of it...or might even hit travelling cars on the road.

So a lesson for me to learn, always stop the wheels with bricks... that just costed me atleast few grand to fix this damage.

There go my beloved GTR, very big damage, 2 doors and the right rear panel... even now i still cant believe it. I wish it was a dream, i felt so bad for what happened and just want to share this story with you guys so hope this would never happened to any of us ever again.

Now im in need of 2 GTR doors, please help me find out guys...you help will be appreciated. Im located in Canley Vale Sydney BTW, let me know if you can help me with finding Doors.

thanks guys

-Long

that sucks dude,

it wasnt because of the turbo timer or anything like that, the car most likly started, becasue reverse is such a high gear ratio it will almost start the car if u crank it with out a handbreak on, The same gose 4 a 4x4, if u got a 4x4 in low range, 1st-2nd-3rd gear, u can just turn the key and drive off. dont need to push the gas pedal or anything. I can see what happened man, and that really sucks

sorry to hear mate

thats a shit go mate. thats why i always jiggle the gear knob to make sure its not in gear before i start any car. you may be in luck if you ring up a wrecker, half cuts are sold without doors so i cant imagine it being hard to find some if you did some ringing around.

Sorry to hear about this, sound like you should call your insurance company if you have insurance.

If not call Prestige Motorsport in Lansvale pH: 97260505 he will have the parts you need and can do any panel beating, painting you need.

Hmmm.... most turbo timers i know of are configured swo if the ignition is off, and the handbrake is off, the TT should shut down and with it the car.

If it didnt shut down when you turned off the key with the HB down, check the wiring too.

Sorry to hear about the prob mate, i once did the same but was parked in the garage... fortunately i just jolted tapped the wall and i'd stopped it.... still messed the bu,per up tho

Thanks guys, the boost setting was on 15psi. I just figured out that everytime i start engine, the boost indicator always goes up to 2bar of boost before it adjust to the settings. so with 2 bar of boost that car rolled hard, couldnt stop it in time,

will be calling wreckers for parts soon, will keep you guys posted.. cheers guys!

Damn.. thats a crap situation!

Good thing it was you who started your car, and not your mate though.. Dont think you'd be mates for much longer if it was him! :)

You wouldnt be making any boost when starting the car.. The engine isnt making enough RPM.. It's just RB26 torque.

Hope you get it sorted without too much cost and heartache!

I am insured with justcar, however excess will be min of 4k, so i thought ill try fix it mysel, would be cheaper and insurance premium wont increase.

just talked to my panel beater/neighbour, he said if getting new doors, ill need to respray both side including the dent on the right rear panel + rear pumper.

My car is white, so most likely to spray it white again, but i just thought of the r34gtr blue color maybe that would be hot?

Also for the 2 doors the hinges are broken so i have two options, either get new hinges or get the lambo door kit this is a great chance to do that conversion...so if this incident happens again door wont be as bad :P "just kidding"

let me hear your opinion guys, will keep you up to date...

Cheers guys

This is why turbo timers are frowned upon by the authorities. not such a stupid rule now is it.

I would reccomend you find two white doors and see how bad the colour match is first, might be pretty good. It's finding the white doors that will be the problem. Hopefully you havent bent the whole hinge support area or the guards which might not be obvious now but will be when you have new doors and cant figure out why they dont fit

Hopefully all works out for you mate.

    • Omg Rezz! Yep we're still here and actually seeing a trickle of oldies coming back.  How's things?
    • So I raised the car up a fair bit for shipping - see image - then lowered it again when it arrived. I then rushed to get an alignment in NL before the track and the shop just wasn’t anywhere near as precise as what I got in Japan. The guys that did the alignment this week said there was a fair amount of toe in the rear that could have contributed to the understeer. It was also the case that the rear camber went from about -2 to -3 at the shop in NL. However, since I’ve now got slightly wider tires in the rear - NS2Rs run wider than Accelera 651S - I could only get a minimum of -3 in the rear now due to clearance. Front is now -2.75 (-2.45 in minutes) due to being raised a bit (previously -3 in JP). So it’s likely a combination of the two factors, camber and toe. The issue now is I have more camber in the rear than the front and the next step on the front Cusco arms will put me at -3.5ish front which seems a bit excessive to me. The weird thing is I’ve never had any understeer at the track in Japan but they are very different circuits - Japanese circuits are much slower than the one I’ve been to here.    I’m probably going to have to start another thread for the E90. The plan is sort of to keep it as a daily but progressively mod it into a track car - honestly, you need a cage for the sort of speeds you go here. Just ordered the M3 front arms btw.  Love the car despite it being in pretty shitty condition. Oil analysis came back okay and it seems to have stopped consuming oil since fixing a load of engine bay things. Saw yours is a 335i right? f**king mistake on my part getting the DI N53 over the N52, fuel economy is insanely good though at 14-16 km/L.   Cheers, it’s great to see the benefits and pitfalls of different places. I’m contemplating going back to the U.K. around next year as the cost of living in the Netherlands is just ridiculous. GF is nagging me to settle and buy a house but I don’t know what LSD to buy.
    • Have you seen the Milwaukee Train Horn? It's a beast! I stumbled upon it while browsing for upgrades. I'm thinking of adding it to my ride for some serious sound. Here's the link if you wanna check it out: https://bosshorn.com/products/milwaukee-train-horn. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your method.
    • Anybody home...? I used to moderate this part of SAU about 20 years ago... hard to beleive it's still around basically unchanged with all the old posts pinned at the top. Amazing to read all those posts again.  If anyone drops by, I'm still in Japan (Nishinomiya, between Osaka and Kobe).  Cheers 🙂
    • Ah, yeah, the diff bushing in the rear subframe, this has been a problem since the start of the V35 in the early '00s and the only solution ever offered by Nissan is a whole new subframe.  Since they are fluid filled, as soon as they form the smallest crack, they leak brown fluid everywhere.  The aftermarket options for the v35 and V36 aren't suitable for the V37 either, Z1 has built an aftermarket option, but a few people have had issues with it. The brace should reduce movement in that bushing, so should extend its life! Did you notice any increase in noise from the driveline?  I know some have installed solid subframe collars and complain about the amount of noise it transmits through to the body, but not sure if the diff brace makes any noticeable difference?
