Indeed - see whomever tomorrow.

Should be a very interesting guest speaker.

I'll also bring along a DVD with some Bathurst footage from 1990 just to keep the good flavour of the night going for people :)

1990 should be a good year!

I will be there to say hello. See you there

*Holden fan wishes to withdraw his attendance at the general meeting*

interesting night, glad I came to see what it was all about.

I was pretty shy. will try to speak a bit more next time, I was actually shocked that I would have been the youngest there, thought there would be lots of p platers and maybe a hero or two, but was really civil.

wanted to know, is that a normal turn out?

Also, I was trying to work out people and who their username would be... it does not work, will have to ask people next time!

I was the chump hanging around the guest speaker and asking him GTR questions as he forgot to mention anything about it haha (he used to be my boss at work  )

Did you talk to me outside? I remember someone saying something towards my direction but didnt know if it was directed towards me. I just remembered that I have met you years ago haha

Ripped off R31skyline forum member who attended;

For those who didn't go, R31 specific stuff, he mentioned the recall of GTS2 wheels - to determine whether to recall them or not, they wanted to find out if the cracking gave the driver enough feedback (vibration/wobbling etc.) to do something about it before the wheel fell off. They got an angle grinder and cut through a spoke, couldn't tell any difference. Cut through another spoke, no difference. Kept cutting through spokes, kept driving, couldn't notice any difference. Finally had only *one* spoke left between hub and rim, still drove as normal, no vibration, but when they went through the slalom the wheel finally fell off. So they recalled them as they thought the driver would get absolutely no warning before catastrophic failure.

Also mentioned the moulds and tooling for GTS bodykits were lost when SVD closed down, so they had to recreate them for spare parts, but GTS owners were not happy with the quality.

Also mentioned R31 diffs, said they changed many diffs under warranty, but the replacements were just as noisy.

lol fair enough, to be honest, didn't make enough eye contact with people, so I didn't get a good look of you or anyone. need to try to get there a little earlier next time ( not right on 8) and chat a bit.

Was a good meeting.

The talk from Will was quite interesting indeed. Big up's to him for coming along for a chat

A lot of what went on back then without the aid of serious computing/modelling and so on in amazing.

The "gutter" test was simply astonishing to hear... i mean who would think cars are driven into gutters @ 60km/h, locking front wheels just before impact just to ensure a car is ok... that was just wtf

They still do the gutter test these days as well. It was painful/awesome to see the FG XR6T run though the test.

Unfortunately I can't remember because it's been a couple of years since working in durability, but I do know that there is some requirement where the vehicle must drive into the gutter and either not lose any fluids and/or be able to still drive safely off the road... or it could be something else; we only did the test once while I was there.

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
