If you're already locking up, increasing traction will help. Wider tyres.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I had balding fail spec Nankang 215 tyres on some TTF 7" wide rims :D

But never fear, thanks to Hamish I have got those SSRs on the way. 8" front and 9" rear.

Should get a 245 on the back. That will definitely help.

... or just don't jump on the pedal so hard and pulse your braking.

costs $0, and it level up's your driving skills.

Well... It's only happened ONCE. And I learned my lesson. But the brakes still get to that "locking up" point too quickly. I can feel it.

Was pretty funny when I did it. Middle of Nepean Hwy in traffic. Made a big amount of smoke. People looked at me as if I was retarded.

Pretty embarrassing :D

woot. just bought a brand new unpainted OEM VW golf MK4 R32 kit.

now the question is, should I get the optional MK5 GTI style front bumper or should I get the regular MK4 R32 front bumper?

probably should just stick to MK4, cos putting a MK5 front is a lil wanky like R34 fronts on R32's. Mind you there's not that many guys no one who've done it.

huh? why are you searching for a front bumper when you have already bought a 'kit'?

i say go MK4 all over, that silver r32 with the black BBS rims looks porn

cos the kit can be supplied with an R32 front bar, or MK5 R32 style front bar. Same price, 100% polyurethane (no fibreglass), fits perfect etc. Gotta love aftermarket parts out of Europe... none of this half arsed stuff like jap aftermarket parts.

Yeah consensus seems to be that MK5 R32's should only exist on MK5's and not on MK4's. Pity no one's done it before (or if they have they've done some gaybo fibreglass conversion that looks shocking) so I can't tell if I like it or not.

so you have no idea what the mk5 front will look like on the mk4? sounds risky

nope. I know... that's what's shitting me... the fact that I can't visualise what it'd look like. Otherwise I'd have made the call and gone for it.

Pat spending money? I don't see that happening lol

??

On another note;

My engine fan has been replaced with a thermo fan due to the larger radiator.

Anyone know a good thermo fan controller? Im after one which reads ecu water temp signal, can set trigger point (85degrees) and will turn off when it reaches another set point. (80degrees)

Now go :D

You fan should run off a thermositor. Figure out if you can tap a frequency or voltage line coming out of it and then add one of these:

program in the relevant voltage/frequency that corresponds to the temp you want and off you go.

Has a temp on and cut off. Although im not sure how to wire in that if AC is on that it is always on...

Any chance you know where the 12v Aircon trigger wire should connect on the relay?

Thanks

    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
