Dezz - as Justin posted, 5kms... You might as well just get ADSL

It'll be about the same speed and most likely cheaper. But it's a fine line.

Also do not go off "Line of Sight" to the exhange.

Im only about 400m from it, but in effect i am actually about 800m cause the cabling goes around the fken block or something stupid before it comes back up the street to my complex.

And ye, TPG are the bottom of the barrell IMO.

isnt it more like 40BILLION?

When was the last time you saw Labour deliver something on time & less than 20% over budget?

It'll be well into the 50mil at the very least if they are touting 40mil at this stage. Guess who's going to pay for that difference?

End of the day a NBN is fken pointless as we are still externally limited.

People will be under the impression it will bring faster internet, faster web page loads, faster downloads etc. Fact is - it won't.

We are still limited by the residential connections to the rest of the world.

EG:

Residential/Commercial "ping" to the US is around 180-200ms

Industry (Oil & Mining companies/big commerce etc) using the super uber sea pipeline is around 70ms

Its over a 100% increase to the average peasant just because of the external links. Nothing to do with the network in AUS.

By putting in a NBN, the pings/latency will NOT drop for residential people simply because they are not upgrading the O/S & External connections.

The money would be better spent on investing in wireless within AUS, and then upgrading the underwater connections for residential/commercial use to similar grade that big business has now.

THAT would be a far better way to spend the money and it would actually show tangible benefits.

Hell even forget the wireless all together and just do the external connections.

Also Telstra's current nutsack strangle hold on everything is fked too.

Just to get out of the US via IINET, it takes i think 10 or 11 "hops" across various points to hit the US. Each point adds delay/latency etc.

Where as if you are with Telstra the equivalent is about 6 hops IIRC which speeds the net up and gains you can actually feel/notice.

Simply put Labour/Conroy etc, all have no fking clue. It's such a gross waste of money and really jacks me off.

We are going to pay MORE than we should, get ripped off and end up getting something that in 10yrs time will be old-hat tech.

yeh i though tthe NBN was costing 40 billion not millions.

i dont know the full background on why new estates dont get everything but it may even depend on the builder of the estate too

in keilor all the cables are underground (no power poles etc) which is great and it just happened to have bigpond cable

so i was lucky and couldnt be bothrered with a phone line so went cable

In the old days, they would build huge ass buildings for the exchanges because they thought the tech needed the space. Not until around 1990 they realised it doesn't need as much space, just as big as a house. So the reason why old places get everything, because they have the room. New exchanges, they just build a little house for it. and even sometimes just use a trailer. Old exchanges = cable + adsl2+.

New ones, they only have room for the telstra one. if they have more room. other providers will fight for it, plan out the layout. and chuck it in.

I wish i lived in keilor downs where there was cable and multiprovider 2+. But taylors lakes is running on a sub exchange which is apart of a big exchange consisting of taylors lakes, sydenham and hillside. >.>

+1 rocker cover gasket...

the oil lower has probably just leaked down the outside....

hit it with degrease and see where it re-appears

hmm could be a leak behind where its coming down from. Dont see any obvious leaks around the rocker cover gasket. Had that shit replaced like 2 times already. Keep blowing these gaskets (if its the case again)

Will give it a proper look over in the day tomorrow.

time for beers

i'd prefer to sell it whole... if i can get the price, then i'll happily let it go...

i've put too much work into it to part it out.... but i will if i have to :/

How much you selling it for again?

...

Pretty much it all has stopped for the time being until everyone knows whats going on.

True that. I sell fibre optic cable and the amount of calls relating to the NBN I get without having any idea what's going on is unbelieveable.

lol and you think rb25 is gutsy off boost?

would be better than a 20

julliete, have you tried a $1 reserve auction on ebay for your car?

im having ALOT of interest, half of which is low ball offers but some are genuine

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
