In all it's glory - following for AC's 1:25 then my creative line through 1

bout bloody time you overtook that pesky R31 Paul :P

Great onboard footage and nice driving mate

PS your Nismo tachometer is disconnected because your using other means to track your speed aside from the electronic tachometer displayed?

Yeah the speedo cable broke recently so in the process of getting another one. Hopefully cable isn't too hard to R&R, but I am guessing it will be...

im not sure on that one Paul but I can't imagine it being as much as a PITA to change compared to changing / replacing a clutch and gearbox

Hehe nah all good Ant's, I only push the braking markers where I have run off, pretty much T1 only at Sandown. Always able to wash off enough speed.

Tyres were too hot after a couple of faster laps and just didn't want to turn in, so I decided to straighten up and was going quite slow once I actually left the track. Brakes are unpredictable too with the ABS unit in there, really inconsistent so once I sort that.

Sandown yesterday, cracked into the 19's. Can certainly see more time in there too which is good - particularly around the sweeper (and fixing the ABS issues!).

Put some high density foam around the radiator which works a treat, big difference. Could keep going for the entire session with water temps not getting any higher than 90c and good oil temps. Going to get trackart / Andrew to make up some proper alloy ducting and it should be good all year round. So I am happy with the oil cooler sitting in the radiator end tank - seems like a good solution and easy / tidy from a packaging perspective.

very nice Paul

Was the radiator moving around before the foam was installed causing the increase in water temps?

Nah just air escaping around the sides and top and not passing through the radiator. More is now forced through the radiator. Can definitely improve further with some proper alloy ducting, would probably just want to knock another 5 or so degrees off max water temp, oil was happy around 100-110c. The ducting would bring both down a touch.

Paul, sub 1.20s is getting quick. Well done. Be interested so see the rad set up you're considering as track temps are always an issue...Maybe let me know when you're down at Trackart next as I've got to go there too?

Cheers.

Cheers. Got a touch more weight I can take out here and there. Compliance intrusion bars being an obvious one, could also do carbon / glass boot lid and wing. Don't need the passenger seat & mount either.

Hence why I reckon an 18 would be achievable with a few tweaks. Can see time in my driving as well, but you know... always good to leave a bit of fat make sure you bring it home in one piece!

There would be some easy time had in moving away from the stock diffs and modifying the transfer case but happy to get there on a standard drive line from the gearbox on for now.

For sure will let you know re: track art.

Paul

did u retain factory power steering? I am looking at a EPAS electric kit for my build.....any thoughts?

Do u find the steering really heavy when tracking the car and the front wheel drive is engaged. Almost to the point of being exhausting after five or six laps at pi?

Thinking the epas kit will strip a fair bit of weight and maybe give me a better overall steering package? What do you recon?

Yeah steering is quite heavy - still factory, I think because of messing with the HICAS it no longer lightens up at lower speed. It also seems a bit variable - seems to get quite heavy for no obvious reason.

Just watched an EPAS vid would be a nice solution for sure. Could definitely cut down some weight there getting rid of the reservoir & pump etc.

And yeah itching to have a crack at PI with it, will be good fun!

Yes mine get heavy for no apparant reason. Some times it is like u have to wrestle the car at PI.

I am definately going to do something funky. At the very least an mr2 electric hydraulic pump plumbed into the system.

Maybe a full electric servo system like epas. This looks to require a whole new manual rack though.

    • Ahhh, I need the whole head unit. I definitely needed to roll back through and review your setup, ha ha! Neat setup they have going on. I just need a full double din head unit. But I want good and responsive. I might have to review what the likes of pioneer have out these days.
    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is may e 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Dose anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
