I've put iridiums in etc and it keeps fouling them, it's always the same, starts getting hesitation up over 4k revs on load. revs just fine to redline when not loaded up.

have used standard gaps to begin with, only the usual issues. went .8 gap they lasted an extra couple of months. last time went one heat range colder and gaped to .8, last longer but now it's happening again. basically I get a year out of iridiums. Should I just buy copper and keep replacing them ? is that normal wear on them? I was under the impression they should last allot longer.

I was thinking that there was something maybe wrong with my tune? they are supposed to last for 100$ or is that just bs? I thought fouling plugs every 20$k was what you would expect from copper or if something was fuged in the tune?

So what was the heat range of the last set of plugs you fitted?

What mods do you have that might affect the heat range requirement of the plugs? If they are fouling, maybe the injectors are delivering too much fuel. Or maybe the timing is inappropriate to support any mods you have.

The last set was one heat range colder but they showed slight signs of burning to hot for the plugs, slightly white so ill get a set of copper in the original heat range again.

baseline: it's all working cept a slight leak in the steering rack but that's not a massive performance issue >:rofl: replaced timing belt, replaced cam gears to "easily adjustable".

mods: usual "stage 1" engy mods.

fmic, 3" straight through exhuast. 2530 hair dryer. fuel pump was replaced with intank bosch outa fear, greddy ult to fool with the sensors. she could probably do allot better with a replacement ecu but not 1500 better so thats it.

i need to replace mine after a week if i move the car from the garage to the lawn to wash the thing haha....3 months out of a set of plugs is good for me and if copper plugs are good for close to 500atw then i cant complain for $30 a set

coppers are fine, and because they're cheap most people just replace them if they get fouled.

i replaced mine after a year, they weren't in too bad condition but i was doing coil packs and just decided to replace the plugs too because its just so cheap.

I do mine with oil every 5000km. You could also look at bosch plats, ~$40 for 6 from repco, they go pretty well. Not sure how long they last, prob not much longer than the coppers...

Finally got new coilpacks 2 weeks ago so I'll see how long they last. Car is pretty stock, tho i wrote "stock" a long time ago, before I realised that 14psi is not stock boost. The car's history is unknown lol.

Heaps of people on here just change plugs with oil to keep the car fresh and avoid misfires.

I do that too. Keeps it all fresh :D Only takes 30 mins or so extra. I just do it while its draining haha.

Hence the reason you don't waste money on platinums and iridums in our cars. Waste of money as you never get the mileage out of them compared to using them on a normal car.

Either way go back to the normal coppers

what bloody heat range were they (other than "cloder than previous")???????? moreover, which actual model of plug were they?

Yeah I feel like I keep constantly telling it to people as well.

never had a problem with plat / iri plugs, except for a recent intermittent misfire that fouled one. turned out to be a faulty (splitfire) coil, but i fitted a set of coppers while diagnosing the problem.

    • Sounds good.  I don't 100% understand what your getting at here. When you say, "I keep seeing YouTube videos where people have new paint and primer land on the old clearcoat that isn't even dulled down" do you mean this - there is a panel with factory paint, without any prep work, they paint the entire panel with primer, then colour then clear?  If that's what you mean, sure it will "stick" for a year, 2 years, maybe 3 years? Who knows. But at some stage it will flake off and when it does it's going to come off in huge chunks and look horrific.  Of course read your technical data sheet for your paint, but generally speaking, you can apply primer to a scuffed/prepped clear coat. Generally speaking, I wouldn't do this. I would scuff/prep the clear and then lay colour then clear. Adding the primer to these steps just adds cost and time. It will stick to the clear coat provided it has been appropriately scuffed/prepped first.  When you say, "but the new paint is landing on the old clearcoat" I am imagining someone not masking up the car and just letting overspray go wherever it wants. Surely this isn't what you mean?  So I'll assume the following scenario - there is a small scratch. The person manages to somehow fill the scratch and now has a perfectly flat surface. They then spray colour and clear over this small masked off section of the car. Is this what you mean? If this is the case, yes the new paint will eventually flake off in X number of years time.  The easy solution is to scuff/prep all of the paint that hasn't been masked off in the repair area then lay the paint.  So you want to prep the surface, lay primer, then lay filler, then lay primer, then colour, then clear?  Life seems so much simpler if you prep, fill, primer, colour then clear.  There are very few reasons to go to bare metal. Chasing rust is a good example of why you'd go to bare metal.  A simple dent, there is no way in hell I'm going to bare metal for that repair. I've got enough on my plate without creating extra work for myself lol.
