If thats the case, thats a bit disconcerting given it sounds like the turbo has actually been on the car already >_<

I've seen a vid on youchoob of what looked like a Silvia (or some 4cyl) with an EFR9180 doing a 1/4 mile run, got a really poor launch then storms off to a 10.4 1/4 mile.

lithium - the early results mark berry and team have shared are impressive. WTAC is just 7 days away now, going to be some interesting developments. btw motoIQ put up a new article today RE the sierra sierra evo who stepped up from the efr 8374 to 9180 for the event

Fingers crossed all goes well, this EFR curse where hardly anything seems to go smoothly (not necessarily anything to do with the turbo/package itself or its delivery, but not necessarily not either) is unreal.

Does this mean the -10 turbos are going back on the R34 for the WTAC?

nope. :whistling:

edit: well that will be plan B but not the option we are intending to go with.

yeah like Geoff said preliminary results have been surprising! we had a few dramas not related to the turbo which put us behind a bit. but even just getting the car set on the dyno checking sensors etc and just 'driving' the car in 3rd gear at a stable 34% TP, we saw 1.8bar at 3,000rpm. that is not bad... We only got to just over 2bar before a problem cut testing short. We haven't diagnosed the problem so don't jump to conclusions yet guys! bear in mind as well our 9180 was a prototype/testing model and was assembled from whatever bits BW had available at the time to make us a complete turbo so that we'd get it in time for WTAC. I know of at least 1 improvement they've made since we got ours that obviously our model didn't have.

But we are still committed to pushing forward with the new tech and working with Full Race and Borg Warner (who have both been fantastic) to get the 9180 on full song, pumping out massive boost and massive power. And we will almost certainly be running a Borg Warner turbo for WTAC.

lol, how could you Geoff! they were quick enough with the 8374! I thought we were friends....

never too late mate. there will be plenty worth seeing. S2 EVO will be super fast. the underbody on it looks amazing. and our own little efforts are not too shabby either. there is plenty new stuff to see on the Advan/Hi-Octane GTR(s), as well as the R32 with the 6258 set=up (first R32 to try that kit).

hop on a plane or canoe or whatever and get over here.

Will see if I know anyone going over, quite late notice to plan transport and accomodation but the closer we get the more interesting an even it seems like it will be. Never been to Oz, should really get around to it.

Jetstar are having a sale ;)

Also accommodation is easy, there's lots of places to stay in the city and you'd be mad to not stay in the city. From there, there is a train that goes very close to EC - then a cab ride which would probably be under $10 each way.

Sounds promising so far... without giving away specifics, was anything changed in relation to the head? Cams, porting or CR with the change of turbocharger?

nope nothing really changed engine set-up wise. the head is actually probably milder than what most people would think. it's a circuit car after all and velocity ranks over outright flow most of the time. we have certainly never struggled for flow/power either. if it's not making enough power it gets more boost. The results Mark has achieved from all the different turbo set-ups have always been at the upper end of the 'average' results people get. part of the reason is that where most people seem to stop at 20psi or 25psi (god knows why?) Mark is more of a 2bar man. More than 5 years ago Mark and Russ were getting amazing power our of their stock N1 crate motor with R34 N1 turbos. like 350kw+.

pretty nice offer there from nytsky/Dave, lithium. I would do it mate. :) you can pay him in cans of L+P. :) all you need is a deathstar flight and some train/taxi money and you are at world time attack...

1.8bar by 3000rpm?? Sounds insane.

Lith, i have a spare room at my place. Only 20mins from the track ;)

Room for four people?! :action-smiley-069:

Yep we're flying there from Perth for a touch over 300 return... cheap weekend of motorsport!

Im going to add my view for everyone, I have had a 8474 on order for 3 1/2 months paid for up front from F/R, there is still no word on when it was due to arrive...Full race could not tell me anything, all i got was promises, then I spoke to Mark regards the 9180, looked to be a good thing but it has not lived up to the hype, you will all hear about it soon... hence I have cancelled my order and going to a Garrett. BW have a long way to go if they reckon a 9180 is a 1000hp turbo..

As the tuner of the berry car said, when they freight the turbo out from the US to OZ the salt water must rob the turbo of 300 HP.

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
