Changed cabin filter and ordered pass side cam cover gasket. I bought a repco carbon activated replacement filter for $25.

I bought the carbon style cabin filter and still get a lot of fume smells in the car from other cars, do you guys get the same?

Are you sure you aren't smelling yourself? :)

I assume you ordered the cam cover gasket because it's leaking oil. That'll slowly drip onto hot things & is right below the air intake.

That was the big indicator for mine & no, never noticed it before.

It could be me :yucky:

Yeah I noticed the gasket starting to leak a tiny bit so thought Id get straight onto it. The smell I get is exhaust fumes not burning oil. Ill check tomorrow that I put it the correct way up, The arrow should point up yeah?

Arrow? Not sure, but here's one I prepared earlier.

Does that mean you'll have a spare once you're all done?

An unknown donor sold a busted up turbo to a guy in Brisvegas. He generously lent it to me to be hi-flowed & I sent mine back which has now made its way to Dale.

Afaik the spare is to be offered to whoever buys his car, but there must be a few units around that could be used by the community for these swaps...?

Beat me to it Leon; As you said, I was very generously allowed to borrow this unit by it's owner, so I can't speak for it's ongoing availability.

Ah, I see.

Is there a particular reason most people opt for a high flowed stocker over a new off the shelf unit? Simply ease of fitment?

Or does the M35 have a unique flange design or something like that?

Pretty much; both air intake pipe and hot side pressure pipe are bolted to the housing, and have a very tight clearances on their pathway through the engine bay. Also, you'd likely end up having to go custom on your dump, depending on housing v's exhaust flange orientation.

So there's a decent bit of fabrication to do just to get something different to fit.

Scotty would probably be the best bet for some photographic evidence on what there is to deal with.

For the power I'm after; it's not worth the arseache of refabricating all the pipework.

The starter motor decided to die (at the mechanics??) the other day... After searching around on here and going with peoples recommendation that a RB30 VL starter motor would fit... it DOESN'T! Luckily Repco do returns...... Ended up servicing my old unit (Discovered the brushes were worn out)...

My mechanic reckons its a bitch of a job to get it in and out for anybody looking to do theirs

Nismo extended wheel bolts, 10mm spacers + wheels

Derale transmission cooler and trans service

Gave it a wash (finally).

Next weekend = 50,000km service

Getting there, slowly :)

Where are the pics though?!

Mine died last week, I was told a vl turbo one would fit (not a NA)? I went for a new Mitsubishi for rb26. $350.

Was a 5 min job to fit once the intake is off...

Servicing the old unit was 160 which wasn't too bad.... Repco didn't have any of the Skyline models listed (you think they would right)?

Anyway all good now, I think the RB25 may be harder to work on due to the i/c piping etc doing laps above the engine

Extended studs I purchased from RHDJapan.

2 sets of these although they do 60mm as well

You did it from the top????

It's a 15min job from underneath.

Doing a cooling system flush after finding this crap

Ive got no crap in the oil and its not over heating so hopefully just poorly maintained and not a head gasket.

Its got the same sort of texture as mud and its brown...

    • Not sure the US can import anything other than the C34 Stagea's, but if you can and you need to to tow, DO NOT under any circumstances get an M35 Stagea. If it is just as a family car and your country/state allows it, absolutely and definitely get an M35 (3.5L if possible as it is effectively a 350Z) over a C34.
    • Punch your VIN (nm35-xxxxxx) into Amayama.com You can see everything there quite easily.
    • Thanks for that, I'll check it all out. I can always do the brakes last anyway if its a problem.  The 16's are super cool, if they do fit I'll cruise around with them for a bit.
    • Well, that's kinda the point. The calipers might interfere with the inside of the barrels 16" rims are only about 14" inside the barrels, which is ~350mm, and 334mm rotors only leave about 8mm outboard for the caliper before you get to 350, And.... that;s not gunna be enough. If the rims have a larger ID than that, you might sneak it in. I'd be putting a measuring stick inside the wheel and eyeballing the extra required for the caliper outboard of the rotor before committing to bolting it all on.
    • OK, so again it has been a bit of a break but it was around researching what had been done since I didn't have access to Neil's records and not everything is obvious without pulling stuff apart. Happily the guy who assembled the engine had kept reasonable records, so we now know the final spec is: Bottom end: Standard block and crank Ross 86.5mm forgies, 9:1 compression Spool forged rods Standard main bolts Oil pump Spool billet gears in standard housing Aeroflow extended and baffled sump Head Freshly rebuilt standard head with new 80lb valve springs Mild porting/port match Head oil feed restrictor VCT disabled Tighe 805C reground cams (255 duration, 8.93 lift)  Adjustable cam gears on inlet/exhaust Standard head bolts, gasket not confirmed but assumed MLS External 555cc Nismo injectors Z32 AFM Bosch 023 Intank fuel pump Garret 2871 (factory housings and manifold) Hypertune FFP plenum with standard throttle   Time to book in a trip to Unigroup
