I use a Magnafuel washable filter. Methanol/Ethanon compatible.

I tested the local Caltex last week and can confirm they are still supplying E75. Hence im sticking with the United stuff (E90).

How easy is it to retune for a massive change eg E70 to E90, can you just do a rough across the board adjustment and accept it will be good enough, or does it really need to go on the dyno?

I didn't find the change that severe although I only changed from the Southland Manildra e85, 1 afr on the wideband richer. I guess you could fiddle with injector size if you have a wideband, just run it a little rich just in case.

I did find extra power though when I tuned for Eflex, just wondering if the ethanol needs a little petrol kick to get it firing quicker in the chamber. As Trent has said, its like C16 straight from the pump, at $1L.

I recently got my car tuned by Gavin Wood

RB25 with GT3076 0.82 external 50mm gate.

Gav said he couldn't get more than 250kw at 1.1bar out of it safely. When I asked why, he said it's probably just because it's an older worn engine with alot of carbon buildup.

If I was to grab some big injectors and swap to E85, would that overcome this problem to a certain extent, and allow me to run more boost/timing to get more power out of the car, or would that just be asking for trouble?

Thanks guys!

It would only be asking for trouble if you upped the boost a heap, just filling with e85 and remapping the fuel would make the tune much safer as there is no chance of detonation, and the 30% extra fuel volume will cool the pistons more. I don't see a down side at all other than finding a local servo. Dual map it though if you can, just as a backup.

How old is old?? Mine is almost 200,000km and at 1.2bar it goes quite chirpily :)

1993 GTST... No idea what real K's are but i'm guessing they are probably around that... I think he said adding more timing didn't seem to make a difference so there was no point?

What sorta power are you getting at 1.2bar?

POST FAIL.... Sorry guys, copy and paste went wrong!!!!!!!!!!!

250rwkw is not too far off for 1.1 bar...

from memory I had ~250 @ 1 bar with the 2835... but i never EVER ran 1 bar

shove 1.3 bar into it and you should see a substantial gain.

did gav try to add more boost, or just more timing @ 1.1 bar?

Listen to this man!

God damnit I want to get tuned for E85 now!!!! I'm running a pissy 17psi (dropping to 16) on 98 :( I'd love to up it to 19psi on e85....stop bumping these damned threads! you're giving me bad ideas

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
