Dude what do you want from me? You really think i'm going to give two shits about some one doing exactly what I said? Just proves how stupid and ignorant most of the human race is and it's becuase of retards like that the human race isn't a few hundred years more technologically advanced.

I have no sympathy for the unitelligent and if you knew me personally you would realise trying to insult my intelligence with that last comment is a foolish thing to do.

Ho ho ho!! Self proclaimed intellectual in the house.

Enough said now, thank you greatly.

think laterally :P

huge torque, lots of power if dialed right, plenty of range. I don't see anything wrong with the idea myself. sure it would piss the purists off but from a fun and economy sense - I'd consider it.

2.5 or 3.0 TD out of a patrol/navara with the appropriate gearing - would suprise a few people. especially if it was auto and you could set the shift points appropriately.

follow?

horses for courses :)

kenworth t950 unladen would suprise quite a few people.

VW golf - yes to a point.

google performance diesels. you may find merit in this crazy idea.

I did very carefully consider an rd28 conversion into my stagea... as there are adapter plates to fitt the front diff/sump available. But after driving a couple of patrols with an rd28... forget about it- they're an odd slug of a motor and I havn't found many people getting any kind of power/tourque out of them without HUGE amounts of lag.

I'm a huge fan of diesel engines and running around europe- that's pretty much all you do drive. Some of the diesel hatch backs really move, especially when tuned up a little. Plus diesel engines LOVE nitrous with propane.

To get any kind of real performance, you'd need either quite a large (heavy) engine with big boost numbers or a very late model engine from a merc or bmw etc... The mercs/beemers are running sleved alloy blocks, ceramic pistons etc to keep the weight and rotating mass down- nice and quiet too.

The other thing with most performance diesel power delivers is the masses of mid range torque... Honsetly it would be hard to get it all to the ground, unless your running some serious tyres and/or awd then it'll be something like:

Rattle-

Lag-

BooooOOOOSt-

Wheelspin-

Flat top end-

I guess if I was to do it, I would do somthing very similar to the Black Smoke Racing guys in finland. Late model 6cyl diesel from a late model merc (over 3lt) with the multi gear auto transmission (6-8 gears). I'd probably leave the bottomend fairly factory, tickle the head a little, run a variable vane performance turbo and the appropriate fueling modifications- I'd build the tranny up as tightly as possible and keep it tiptronic.

Pop it all in a Stag with leather and see how fast I can tow my GTR to the drag strip ha ha ha.

Cheers

Justin

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
