Warners Bay (10 mins south of Newcastle) would be an AWESOME spot for a cruise and lunch :D

I would probably head up the Freeway to the Tuggerah exit and then drive across the The Entrance to stop for say 30 mins or so to relax and refresh, then head up the coast road to the Pacific Highway towards Newcastle. Then turn left at Warners Bay Road and at the end of that take a right onto The Esplanade and park along the water there and grab some lunch ;) great spot and I'd love to do it in summer

The road to jenolan caves is awesome for the first part, then its becomes not much more than a lane as u head into the valley. Good day drive from sydney.

The best road I have driven is from Cairns to Port Douglas. Its right on the coast, apparently it has the highest amount of turns per kilometer in Australia.

alpine way thru to khancoban, then back up thru cabramurra, then down the hill to tumbarumba or talbingo.

great windy roads & some interesting things to see (highest mountain in Oz, highest town in Oz, the snowy scheme, etc).

plus i can go & beer up at my hometown

Gotta say that Warners Bay one souns tops.

I'd love to do Old Pacific Highway to Calga, then Peats Ridge Road all the way to Broke and Wollombi (stop in for some Dr Jurd's Jungle Juice), down to Cessnock (stop in for some wine tasting) and off to Newcastle foreskin, erm, foreshore (drinks at the brewery?).

Otherwise you could do an overnight cruise from Syd, up Old Pacific Highway, Peats Ridge Road, Bucket's Way, Oxley Highway to Port Macquarie.

max, i think you are generalising when u say that ppl in the gong are pricks. sure there are some here, but that is the same for every place.if u want to criuse here i would love it as i would like to meet and talk to other skyline owners and get hints and so on about them as to improve mine. so plz feel free to come down for a cruise and lunch or whatever and u will find that a lot of ppl will give u a warm welcome. unfortunately a few bad apples have given us a bad name and hopefully u dont meet any. but cops usually on d prowl due to these bad eggs. just trying to say dont generalise and it would be great for u's to cruise down again as wollongong has really deteriorated lately due to some idiots being exactly that..

Sonic I like the way you think mate. Wollombi-Peats Ridge would've been great fun except:

1. My wife was in the car as well.

2. We came across a motorcycle rider who'd met his maker.

As far as cruises go I really wouldn't know-I'm more interested in "runs". I don't mind the Nasho but I think Macquarie Pass is the king as long as you can avoid people towing caravans. The run down to Garie Beach is fun though-just ask Fatz!

I've done some absolute crackers away from Sydney. The run from Casino to Tenterfield seemed like about 60 km of 25-45km/h corners. No traffic AT ALL and an absolute blast. Don't break down though 'cos you'll be stuck in the middle of Deliverance. Be very worried if some guy asks you who his daddy is!

The run from Lithgow-Sodwalls-Tarana-O'Connell is great fun but if you feel like stepping it up a notch the dirt road from Perthville to Dunkeld via Evans Plains is an absolute cracker. Hen & Chicken Lane is a part of this and it forms part of the NSW state rally series if I'm not mistaken. Great fun.

Cheers,

Ben

BTW The 'gong is surrounded by the highest concentration of great driver's roads IMHO. Living in the 'gong is a treat! Pissed off I had to move. :)

Old Pac is a favourite. I find that the run back into Syd is alot better than the way up to Gosford. Personal preference I guess.

Mccars creek road is another great road just bottom out a fiar bit

I like the Natio I prefer Wollongong to syd rather than heading to the gong.

But my Fav has to be Catti road from Old Pit Town to Wisemans then oout to Wollimbi.

Kangaroo valley route via Nowra rd is an impressive piece of road then over to Illawarra rd for the Macquarie Pass run. These hill climbs are in good condition, well marked with great views if your out for a day cruise. There are plenty of spots to enjoy in the area outside of driving. The roads between these hill climbs are dangerous with dips, bumps, blind crests, tree lined, so proceed with caution. I simply had a bad feeling when I was driving on them. Mabey all the crosses on the tree's had something to do with it.

If driving at night watch out for WOMBATS, they are everywhere. We have seen up to 10 in 90 min of driving, all alive and well wandering across the road or on the side of the road ready for a wander.

I find the royal national park too hard on the car and steer clear of it.

I will head up to Bells Line of Road soon to see what its all about.

Anybody have a review on this piece of road?

Hey don't knock Woodenbong ;)

And yes it is a very nice road and is in a lot better condition then years ago when it use to be a bloddy goat track with many accidents involving logging trucks and family cars :D.

One of the best stretchs IMHO would have to be Thonderbolts Way from Glouster to Whyalla. The road over the MTN is AWSOME and then the run to Whyalla has some VERY fast section that very high speeds can be easily reached. Pitty it is 4hours away from sydney :)

Maybe we could start a list at the front of this post with all of the sugestions and then vote on what we all think are the best roads ???

Maquarie pass then across to kangarro vally, brings you out at nowra, then north to kiama then shoot through to jamberoo, they you can go through albion park to get back on the freeway, or hang a left at jamberoo mountain road, and do the maquarie pass again, but in the oppostie direction :)

both Putty Rd & Kangaroo Valley have been mentioned but deserve another 2 very big thumbs up!!!!

Although no-one has mentioned the cahill expressway in Sydney (northbound) - belt along the top of circular quay then into the 270 deg corner under observatory hill then out onto the harbour bridge - oh the wail of a straight six :)

Does anyone here know McKanes Falls Rd near Lithgow? No traffic and a bloody nice short blast. Only 1 property access in the twisty bits too so not much chance of being surprised by someone pulling out in front of you.

Went from Goulburn to Oberon via Taralga and Black Springs on the weekend and the run down into the Abercrombie River is great, but the hillclimb up out the other side is GOLD!!! Unfortunately there's about 5 km of dirt at both ends.

    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drive beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
