Good results everyone! I'm happy with a 20. Next time a teen for sure. I'm chasing you down Ant :)

Well after a tough day I am wrapped with the result! My goal was to do a teen at Sandown and three laps proved the first wasn't a fluke! :)

Basically a loose elec plug ruined my morning. Everytime I went out the warm up lap was fine but when I started to push the car would turn itself off around higher G corners. It was as if you had turned the key and pulled it out. I would turn into a corner, get back on the gas only to look down and find the dash and hand controller dead . This would last a second or two before coming back to life but it killed my exit speed. BIG THANKS to the Racepace boys who spent some time trying to track the problem down before finding the loose plug. After being cable tied I tested it out in the passenger laps after lunch to find the problem had been fixed.

Congrats to all who got PB's, and mine ended up at a 1:19.43 which would've been fastest on the day if it were not for some bloke in a fibreglass bathtub powered by something the size of a 1.25ltr softdrink bottle ;) . Russ given your day I have no doubt that it is only a matter of time before you put in a teen and I will look forward to our next battle.

Good news in that it seems my new in car cam actually recorded properly this time, bad news is that it is still a little washed out exposure wise. I really need to take a drive on a sunny day and find some good settings for it. I will post up my lap as you can make out what is going on together with an example of how not to overtake a stubbon blue emo (but hey the overtake stuck :) ) and a good example of a fishy....

Well a PB for me so I was very happy with the day.

plenty of sessions, good track conditions and not many cars.

Sorry to those of you who had some probs and hope they could be fixed easily.

I felt your pain on that today

not many Pics today katie was cold the the garage was much more comfy

Lovely weather. Had an enjoyable day pushing my limits (visits to the gravel) resulting in a PB, though not hard with prior outtings being in the wet!

Brakes suffered, APP (SR) pads wore down so much that they started to crumble, being searching site for replacement recommendations for minimal street.

Only shame is that it seems I had too much dash within video metering so the track footage is a bit washed out.

Get yourselft some QFM A1RM pads. Perfectly suited for your car. Ring Greg from GSL rallysport and he'll have em to you in 2 days for about $130 delivered :)

interesting day :D

firstly, massive thanks to the Racepace boys as well and to Ant and John - i had some catch can issues that needed sorting out, but with plenty of help managed to solve and despite a few missed morning sessions, i was back out in the arvo i think for 3 more sessions with no issues, so ended up being a good day in the end :)

first proper track day with the GTR (only had done the August deca before) so i'm still very much getting use to the speed and power, but was definitely feeling more comfortable as the afternoon sessions wore on which was nice. I started out around the 35's it seems but the last clear lap of my last session managed to get a 1.29 :) I know the car is capable of immensely lower times, but i'm happy to work on it slowly. Just need more confidence with the braking mainly i think. Never done a timed event before, so it's good to get some lap-time results so i now have some to work towards/compare too

Thanks to John for jumping in with me in the morning session and for letting me be passenger in the passenger lap session. I have almost double the rwkw of your car, but you're still about 5 seconds quicker haahahah :D

Paul, nice to meet you. You've definitely picked up a weapon of a car!

Ant, 19's.... silly quick, well done :) I think that's the next thing, jump in a car that is similar to mine and see what it takes to get that low. What tyres were you running?

Bel, considering you have a dead-stock GTR, putting down some good times :) I'm sure you're putting together your mod list as we speak :D

Joe, thanks for letting me share your little alcove for all my stuff. Didn't realise how early you have to be to get a spot... know for next time.

Scrutineers let me go for my bonnet, which i thought was ok given it's the factory setup, but will definitely have a secondary restraint next time.

I'll also check my catch-can next time too :D

There were lots of photographers out... do they post at the WRX forum? there's a members only photo section (for paid WRX members) is that where the photo's go generally?

EDIT: think i found it, http://www.wrx.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=71511&p=800889&hilit=sandown#p800889

Thanks Dan...had heard a lot about your car so was good to put a face to the name. Happy to take you for a spin as long as no one else has booked a ride ;) There are three main components to getting times that low...first - seat time, second - suspension geometry / semi's and third (and this is extra important at Sandown)- balls :D

The tyres I run at the moment are the Yokie A050's mediums - definitely the choice of semi at the moment.

You're getting there Paul - you've come a long way since your first time out at Sandown that's for sure.

And anyone who has been doing this a while will tell you that under 1.22 is a hard thing to do.

And good work on joining the teen club Ant. Those last few little mods have made some big strides for you mate.

Not with the pace he now has, I had those prior to my APP's and trashed them in one day.

Really? I've done 24's at sandown, 48's at PI and 34's at winton on 310mm GTT front breaks. All done with A1RM's. Just don't let them get lower than about 20% or they will crumble.

Yet another awesome day at Sandown. Was great to watch everyones PB's falling like flies!

Managed a 1:21.9 so starting to do the car a little more justice.

Good work Paul. Good to see the times coming down.

You should be happy with a sub 1:30 for your first go at Sandown :) Well done.

That's not bad, maybe with a bigger swept area and lighter car they are holding out better.

I did Calder earlier this year and killed a set of rears in one day.

Not disagreeing they work,(and great value for money) but I would be going something a little more "track" as it is mainly used for that purpose.

I have the same experience with A1RM. Could only get 1 Sandown out of them in the end.

John if you want to run them on the street (limited time), get some Project Mu HC+, if you are going to hardly ever use the car go the club spec like russ(?) or blue stuff like Dave, myself and Josh.

That would be my suggestion.

I have used HC+ and blue, not the club spec (they are meant to be good though).

.......and I survived Sandown... yeeeeeeeeee..... haaaaaaa.

What a damned scary place Sandown is :worship:

Ant, thank you for showing me around the track in the morning, it helped me heaps

Guy, nice to meet you - that R34 looked like a rocket.

About my track experience: I'm sort of happy-ish with my 1:30.6 lap - guess I got my Sandown PB too

Was really hoping for a sub 1:30 lap but my brake rotors had some different ideas half way through timed session #3, like to go all warped on me - oh well, they were original 109,000kms old rotors, and they already lasted me a day at PI so I really can't complain too much - I already have some slotted DBA 5000's on order.

Daniel, awesome looking 34 - mod list ey, well a new fuel cap is #2 on the mod list hehehe - since I was leaking fuel in the left handers, and #3 on the list is an oil cooler - I hated looking at that oil temp gauge halfway thru my sessions.

Congrats to all on their PB's - it was a great day for it

    • I had 3 counts over the last couple of weeks once where i got stranded at a jdm paint yard booking in some work. 2nd time was moving the car into the drive way for the inspection and the 3rd was during the inspection for the co2 leak test. Fix: 1st, car off for a hour and half disconnected battery 10mins 4th try car started 2nd, 5th try started 3rd, countless time starting disconnected battery dude was under the hood listening to the starting sequence fuel pump ect.
    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
