If the f#*kers installed a E85 pump somewhere in my part of Australia, I might lean that way. :whistling:

I found a G35 running stock block - 10psi, 22 degrees timing at redline up from 18, and making 414rwhp. Dunno what fuel, but thats a lot of timing in it.

Effectively you can see the octane of the fuel in the map to some extent, as higher octane fuel requires more time to ignite and produce the explosion. At the end of the day, he who runs the least boost and timing for the required power wins imo. (but where is the fun in that? :))

As a comparison Scotty, what ign advance does yours take in the top end on E85, if you don't mind sharing?

These yanks seem to like to put 18-20 degrees in, and they seem to tune on pump Gas, which just doesn't make sense to me knock wise.

Mine seems to run around 24 deg max in the top end under full load from what I can see... (there could be any number of maps overlaid over it,) That is an ethanol tune on a low compression engine obviously, I don't have to worry about knock.

It is an rpm x map pressure so as the boost rises timing gets lower to around 2.9 bar then it drops back to zero.

Lovin' the info Alex and glad to hear that the tune is safer and feels better :)

Re the Yanks, could their numbers it have anything to do with a combo of happy dynos and the seemingly widespread expectation of a full rebuild after 20-30,000 (thus pushing the engine to the limit with the timing)?

I would have thought happy dyno time for sure, but a Stock block car with 10psi has run a 11.7 @ 119mph, which would indicate the power is there. I just don't know how they can put the extra timing in, unless either a) we are seeing phantom knock or b) they are dosing up with toluene or race gas on the dyno or I guess c) there is a massive difference in pump fuel octane downunder.

That timing issue seems to be the only difference in between my power and theirs. AFR is the same. I don't believe I have an exhaust restriction at this stage.

The ECU is smart with timing - apparently you can make changes to the figures, and the ECU will take a few runs to compensate for the changes and find out the best path. Too smart for its own good.

Very smart but when you take the knock sensor out of the equation you are asking for trouble. Essentially you want to make smooth power so the knock sensor doesn't back the timing out.

Did you look at the HKS manifold adapter? That's what I call a restriction, but the results you have seen, are they running the same kit?

Nope, he's running GT25 twins. I'm just using it as a stock block comparison.

Manual Z using F-Con & HKS kit is 245kw at wastegate pressure. I have no idea if that's in la-di-da land or not. I should get him to put it down the 1/4 . Maybe I'll just be happy!

True that the HKS adaptor isn't going to flow like twins will.

atm its single tyre frying time. rwd and open diff is silly.

3 inch, and should be all the way.

I think Scott made good power with a Fujitsubo, which is essentially the same exhaust. We can always drop it and see.

There is a big HKS Cat in there too, which I dunno how good they are, but wouldn't have thought its shit.

hey alex, congrats on the successful re-tune. i think the HKS supercharger kit and turbo kit make pretty much the same amount of power at stock boost for the vq35. the 2006 rev-up z with supercharger and a 2004 superchargerd Z in sydney both made 240s and Bao's 2004 turboed Z made around the same. i lost 20-30kw on them due to the auto vs manual drainage. maybe the 4wd setup on the stagea casued you further loss even though you swaped to rwd?

in the end the numbers looks pretty much on the money for us slush box cars i guess. however i will never find out if my plenum spacer is actually sucking power from my car lol.

Craig, your a massive Trolololol. Come back when your car doesn't sound like a milo tin full-o-bolts. Thanks for waking me up last night to mate- Obvious drunk is obvious. :P

I think I found a restriction, but I'll wait for proof before putting it out there.

You just have stronger Rods ok... Its not all about the Rod.

We can do craigs next week if he is keen, i wouldlike to do it one weeknight, give him a nudge in this direction :D

i have been looking at the emanage software and it lookspretty basic, i think the stock ecu is going to be the issue.

    • Has equal chance of cleaning an AFM and f**king an AFM. I think you can work out what happened. When the Hitachi ECU sees the AFM die and goes into the associated limp mode, then it will start and run just fine, because it ignores the AFM and just runs on idle maps that will do what it needs to get it going. But there is no proper load signal, so that's about all it can do. My suggestion? If you don't want to go full aftermaket ECU, then get some R35 GTR AFM cards and some housings to put them in, in the stock location, and Nistune the ECU. Better to do a good upgrade than just replace shitty 40 year old tech with the same 40 year old tech.
    • So my car was recently having trouble starting on initial crank, I would need to feather the gas for it to start up but besides that it would start and run fine. So I clicked the idle air control valve (with throttle body cleaner) and cleaned the MAF sensors (with MAF cleaner). The start up issue was fixed and now the car turns over without the assist of the throttle, but the car is in limp mode and wont rev past 2.5k RPM. From what I understand the IACV would not put the car in limp mode, so I am to believe it is the MAF sensors, but it was running fine before and now I cant get it out of limp mode. I cleaned the MAF made sure the o rings were seated properly. Made sure the cables were plugged in properly, the cables also both read the same voltage. Does anybody know why this is or what could be causing this or how to get it out of limp mode?
    • Ooo I might actually come and bring the kids, however will leave the shit box home and take the daily
    • Thanks. Yeah I realised that there's no way I'd be able to cover the holes with the filler, it would just fall through. Thanks again @GTSBoy!
    • That was the reason I asked. If you were going to be fully bodge spec, then that type of filler is the extreme bodge way to fill a large gap. But seeing as you're going to use glass sheet, I would only use that fibre reinforced filler if there are places that need a "bit more" after you've finished laying in the sheet. Which, ideally, you wouldn't. You might use a blob of it underneath the sheet, if you need to provide some support from under to keep the level of your sheet repair up as high as it needs to be, to minimise the amount of filler you need on top. Even though you're going bodge spec here, using glass instead of metal, the same rules apply wrt not having half inch deep filler on the top of the repair. Thick filler always ends up shitting the bed earlier than thin filler.
