Lol dezzman if you were a client. You'd be raking up a bill by now.

Alex is on the money.

If you want to claim 'actual' receipts you need a log book. Requiring a log of 12 continuous weeks and is valid for 5 years unless your circumstances change. Also you need to keep all receipts.

Alternatively you can use what 80% of people do and just use the cents/km method. Up to a maximum of 5,000km, you can claim a set rate.

I.e 5,000 x 0.75 = $3,750 of deductions without receipts.

How much more can one claim if they can be f**ked log booking for 12 weeks? If I only have to do it for one 12 week period and can use that for 5 years then I'd consider it...If I'm reading that part right...

I'd drive ~100kms a day 6 days a week for work....

Yeh Dezz that's possible my last tax return we claimed 83% of costs as work related - worth noting you won't necessarily get 100% of what you claim.'

Tony - any jobs going

I'll get 100% of what I claim or Rimon will put the tax kunce head through his own windscreen

Want to become an Accountant :P

Tony you need a i.t guy? :D

Nah we already have someone :/

Max claim for no log book was as per above :P 5000kms. Which is about $3750.

Every client would be different. It all depends on how much you spend and your business usage rate. So If you spent $6,000 at a 80% business rate it would be more beneficial to make a log book

My mate used to do that, justin911 on here...barely drove his car but claimed turbo upgrades etc on tax

my cars a total piece of shit, and on gas, so might be best to go with the max without receipts, also means I don't have to do anything which is a winner

I'll claim the servicing I've got receipts for as well, and I've been driving on slicks for months so can't exactly claim tires lol

Buying some things just to claim on tax can be a big false economy...just work out how much you're going to get income taxed and set your return up to largely counter it. No need to over do it with everything. Without receipts I get back around 90% of what I'm taxed.

My boss (a contractor), wants me to become a sub-contractor with an ABN etc. I will be working solely for him. Does he need to pay my super? Or is that something I would need to factor into my invoices to him?

Is this becoming a tax forum?

Not directed at anyone on here but alot of people get carried away with tax losses and deductions etc. Usually when this happens, I ask them can you give me $100? And in return I will give you $30 back. This usually gets their head around things.

And in regards to you Astro Bear, the rules are very complicated with contractors and super, but essentially if are deemed to be an employee (as in you do everything an employee does but not just the title) you are entitled to super.

Doesn't mean you'll get extra, just means it will be negotiated into your contract and usually get paid less as your employer now has additional costs :P

How often are you driving between work sites Dezz? I assume you aren't trying to claim home-work travel as a deduction lol

Think we're allowed because we carry tools, so we're using our car for work

Tradies claim everything, my mate claims $300 diesel glasses as safety glasses lol

Would be pretty stupid to buy stuff you don't need just to claim it back on tax....That's not at all what I'm talking about.

I'm only asking these questions as it's a new industry to me and Ive heard from all my tradie mates for years how much they're entitled to claim

I'm not buying anything I don't need just to claim it later as that is one of the stupidest things u could do. I just wanna make sure I'm claiming every cent I'm entitled to, f**k the ATO :)

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
