If I had a s14 or skyline etc id just turn it into a track car, but no chance I'm turning a 60k car into a track car.

Aaron it's a tough decision though :( work cars are meant to be worth around 15k a year (when you take into account wear and tare, fuel, rego, insurance)

10k brake kit for a 30k car... With no power... Good idea

Birds the theory of brakes improving lap times more than power wouldn't really apply to a stock 86 IMO.. The car just wouldn't ever be going fast enough to need the stopping power... If anything it'd probably increase the lap time, by slowing the car down more than needed

Yeh I know what u mean but I think by then I might be over the whole jap scene thing by then and start looking at moving out n getting married etc.

If works paying for all of that it's a bonus. My work will be paying for everything but fuel which is not a worry to me..wear and tear doesn't bother me as they give me a new one every 6 months.. But all depends on whether I'm still working here in a year which hopefully I will be.

Getting a free merc every 6 months is a pretty good bonus

It's not a hard decision for me :P

and adding extra weight

Absolutely, maybe sell off the s14 then move out and get married sounds like a good plan and enjoy the mercs!

thats the plan..its not like it has finance or anything so even if i was to keep it in the garage and just pay rego and 3rd party insurance it would be alright.. just drive it every now and then.. but then you think what you could use that money for..

What's the best merc that they give you after 1 year?

Your gonna start looking like a rich kent rollin in your Merc :P

Just a C200 or C180 coupe.. still a nice car. the model you have is always up to date so its not bad..

its strange because i would be saving money, by having a more expensive car. win win lol

It's more about reducing brake fade/heat than the stopping distance though. You can only brake as hard as your tyres will grip and yeah, initially you might be able to lock up the wheels with standard brakes, but after a few laps of hard braking you'll pump them and get nothing. Besides this, I see the TRD version as being a good base for anyone who is serious about racing the thing and will probably do their own power mods to it. It'd be wasted on the street, but definitely a good package for the track boys.

Those door pressure/actuator things are a pretty cool concept!

The car has same power to weight ratio as my stock r32 gtst and the way the v8 supercar driver drove my car on sandown (to the point of brake fade on a1rm's) any of us will take years of track work to really drive any car on its limits.

Power is a substitute for skill. This car designed to be pushed to its limits not win traffic lights

    • Find out what RPM it was idling at with the IACV unplugged. It's very weird that the rpm didn't change at all, and then it stalled. When it stalls is it nearly like a switch off, like you've turned the engine off? Or is it more stutters and sputters and coughs to death over a few seconds? Or does the RPM just slowly keep going down and down? Have you done a test of trying to start it with the AFM unplugged? Does it still die?     If you Follow Josh's advice on using Nistune to check the voltages (which is a perfect method!) if you see anything out of wack voltage wise, THEN get the multimeter out and read the voltage directly at the sensor. If the two vary, then you're now looking for a wiring issue vs a sensor issue. So be aware, what the ECU sees, may not be what the sensor is actually saying too...
    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
