not sure if you were still there, a wrx touched the grass coming on to the pit straight, lost it and went backwards into the wall hard.

lucky he had a cage.

I'm sure he had no idea he was dropping oil as he went past the pit entrance twice whilst it was happening!

yeh i saw that.. the red one? pretty much lost the rear end of his car poor guy.

nah the guy new he dropped his oil.. according to the towie, he'd lost 4th, couldnt take it out of gear and from what he explained to the towie, he saw the oil out the rearview.

the fact that he didnt drive into the pit but instead continue along the straight is pretty dumb if you ask me. surely you'll know somethings wrong if you cant get it out of 4th.

It's worth it every time you press the quiet button on the remote. I can't believe how quiet mine is closed, almost stock noise level, not bad for a 3.5 inch muffler. Even open it's not too bad.

Hrmm maybe i'll drop past sometime! it is something useful to have for starting up in the morning so you don't wake neighbours, cruising down the highway, having elderly passengers or driving past cops etc....lol

do it.

lol everyone jumping on the Varex wagon now...where were you two years ago when I was pushing the things. No one believes how good they are til they drive a car with one.

Good value considering the remote controlled motor setup too Birds. They do sound a bit tinny when mounted at the rear, like they have a sock shoved up the pipe. Probably best if you can get it fitted as a centre but there isn't much room there on a skyrine.

Since we are on the topic.

When fully open, what effect does this have on the exhaust flow? Something small in the exhaust even when open will have some sort of effect?

When its closed, are there any effects on choking the system? What happens when you boot the car when the exhaust is closed, are the any possible side effects?

what was that? "Mr. f**k the remote and motor ill cut it off and make my own"

well scotts tune seemed to lean out when he put the varex back on, which means it should have more flow than the 3.5" muffler he had on before.

threoretically you want the exhaust to be quiet when its closed right? so you wouldnt really be booting it anyway. but with the flap closed, the car is a laggy POS Lol

When open, it acts like a straight through piece of pipe. As it uses a butterfly valve the restriction that would put on it when open is SFA. I have the 3" Varex and ~260rwkw no issues with flow there.

When closed, they say not to drive on boost. You can give it a couple of PSI without harm, but you only need to use closed when popo are around, getting home late or cruising on the freeway to avoid drone.

Is yours a cannon type or twin tip? They do make different sounds and have different valve setups. I have no tinnyness to mine; think it helps that the rest of my system is mild steel.

Okay well that's the same setup as a canon type and they do have more of a stainless steel to them than the twin tip.

yeh the twin tips are quieter, but i heard them on a friends car and didnt like how they sounded on an sr(not that it would ever sound great - but better than its worst) but that whole sound went out the window with the .82 housing lol

and then the gate.

    • Bit difficult to follow. Have a look below and see what the standard R32 layout was like. Note there was a restrictor in place immediately before "turbocharged pressure control solenoid" that, if removed, magically got you 1 bar boost.
    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
