Hi Guys

My car has a REALLY weird and annoying squeek noise whenever going over bumps or at high speed on the highway. It only used to happen when going over speed humps but gradually over the past year or so its gotten worse and worse where its almost all the time driving now to some degree, but on bumpy roads or the highway at speed its basically non stop and really doing my head in. i.e. im up the coast on holidays at the moment and for the entire 3.5 hr drive it was squeeking. Its driving me nuts.

I've had the car serviced at TT automotive in North Sydney and they didnt observe any major issues wiht my car and said its in good mechnical order etc, though they didnt explicitly look for this squeek.

The squeek seems to be coming from the front drivers corner of the car but i cant pin down where. Somewhere near the mirror/door/dash region. It doesnt sound like it is shock related (i have the sydneykid package, bilsteins with whiteline springs), but i really just dont know. Its not a normal dash rattle, its much squeekier than that.

Its gotten to the point i just want to give the car to someone to sort it out once and for all. But i dont know where i should take it for this since i dont know what is causing it.

Any thoughts or recommendations be greatly appreciated!!! As soon as im back in Sydney tomorrow i wanna organise to take the car in somewhere to sort this out.

why don't you just take Jason for a ride in it, so he can identify the noise if you're really worried about it!

much better doing that than starting somewhere new!

ps. i totally rate TT automotive!!!

Hahah i tried the loud stereo... but it has to be quite loud!!! The reason why i dont think its suspension related is because its "sounds" closer than that. Doesnt sound like its from the engine bay either. Ill take it to someone this week and give them the suggestions mentioned here as a starting point.

I had a similar squeak that sounded like it was coming from the dash. Nearly drove me crazy. Turned out to be the right front quarter panel rubbing against a screw.

Press the panel and see if you can hear the squeak.

Actually on the lines of plibber my old sereis 2 FMIC used to rub on the front bar/reinforcement bar and used to sound like squeeks and chirps.... instead of fixing the problem I just kept spraying WD40 along it untill it got dirty enough not to make the sound anymore....

:stupid: did the trick though lol

f**king this. I almost went insane from a squeak near the passenger side of the dash. It was the quarter panel. Now I know what it is I don't care lol.

It comes back. I tightened mine and its f**king loose again, I cbf with it now. NOISES ARE f**kING ANNOYING.

Another annoying one? The electric window parts which loosen up over time and make noise in the f**king door. Strip the whole car down and put it back together with locktite on everything.

Time to do some research on better greenslip pricing!

Good stuff dude, glad it's not irritating the shit out of you anymore. To mask the other sound though, just turn the stereo up ;)

You know whats bad about this, I get my alternator whirring in my speakers. I don't what else to look at and change. All new ground points from the battery(I got 2 or 3 off the battery to the chassis). New and seperate ground point for my stereo. New ground point for my amps. The only thing I can think is that my amps are running off the same ground point. Problem is I'm using a Y connection to bridge the 4gauge to 2 gauge to the chassis. No idea if this is the cause but seriously, alternator noise, f**k YOU.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 馃槀 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
